Depends on what the road is like left of camera. If there is a bend then the van may not have been able to see the bike. He seemed to be going at a fair old clip. Either way, shitty deal all round. Hope he was ok.

and they are infra-red temperature sensors.

traction control etc is done via a lean-o-meter and base wheel speed as circumference etc changes too much at different lean angles. Couldnt do it accurately enough on 3 sensors. Of course it integrates rpm etc too.

Ok so it looks like a 6 cyl diesel which has a turbine attached to it and it could drive a prop with power from either the diesel or the turbine........ but why? High altitude maybe? i can see no point of having a piston motor when you can use a turbine........ unless it is a dodgy low hours then rebuild type turbine or maybe it is the eco friendly dual fuel model

Hmmm not sure on the turbo prop thing, Most turbo props i have seen aren't that big, mainly on crop dusters (Turbo Thrush's?), and why have a crank and pistons? Dead weight when you have about 1000hp on tap.
I had thought it might be a set up with a prop for high torque low airspeed lift etc.... short strip takeoffs using the prop then put a bit of pace on and run with thrust maybe?

The SA navy used to have them in the minesweepers, think they were a plane motor that was adapted to marine use. THey did not like running at slow rpm and used to blow up regularly which was good for us appys as we got to rebuild quite a few. 3 Cranks 72 pistons (36 male and 36 female)
