That reminds me of the three years I spent as a courier in London in the mid nineties. I once had to deliver a pacemaker to a west London hospital as the guy was on the table waiting and the one they had was faulty. 15 miles in 18 minutes, Fuckin' great fun hooning through the traffic. Great job in the summer, getting paid to ride like a complete and utter twat.
One of my mates was delivering an artificial lung to Swansea when he got pulled for speeding on the M4, once he showed them what he was carrying he was given a police escort, 4 bikes with two in front blocking junctions etc, whiilst the two rear bikes would then take the front and the two blocking would then assume the rear position.
Life expectancy was about 18 months until you had a big one, I had several crashes in the time I was working, but thankfully no major injuries, although I did write off a car using a CX500, and rode the bike home afterwards. My mate got knocked off by a car doing a U turn and busted his femur, he almost bled to death but for the paramedics who happened to be getting some coffee from a sandwich bar right where it happened.
Good old days, unfortunately now I live out in the sticks I don't get to do much urban riding anymore, a lot of the original Streetfighters where despatch bikes in the vein of the Andy Sparrow Bloodrunners cartoon strips, built for speeding around the city scaring the shit out of pedestrians.
I won't deny I did it as well mate (the hypocrite that I am), in fact London is where you got to do it the most. I remember the trip to get my Visa from the Australian Embassy in London and I borrowed a mates bike knowing my licence was going to be useless when I left (which I gave to him as he'd lost his at the TT a few months before) so i went spastic to beat the traffic and the embassy closing for the day. Mid 20's and no fear. I guess you just see more over the years and gte sensible or boring (can't put my finger on it...)

I had a "little visit" a few weeks ago from two bike cops to warn me they were gonna target me for my riding after I apparently overtook an unmarked car going rather enthusiastically, which couldn't get anywhere near me allegedly. I asked him whether he would have caught me if he was on his bike to which he replied "Of course." I just started laughing which I don't think went down too well.
What's the point of a "Streetfighter" if it doesn't get used for Fightin'?
