Still a bit limited on funds after Bike purchase, Tyres, Rego, Insurance etc, but it costs nothing to pull a few panels off (and they're staying OFF [8D]) and give myself / everyone a look at whats within....

Im going to leave the top fairing on to keep the bike useable untill I have a new top-clamp, renthals, extended cables etc ready to fit.
Might have to get a one-off top yolk. The aftermarket ones seem to pull the clamps back to fit the bars inside the stock fairing and look awful on a naked bike.
Looks odd from a riders view, Tank doesn't fit the frame now the trim panels are missing!
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/1451/2busaboveks6.jpg
Geez, I'm surprised how tidy a 'Bus actually looks without it's fairing lowers.[^]
I still think their top fairing looks like the head of the "Alien".
I also don't know whether that is actually a bad thing;)
Having said that........ I still wish I had one, just for the motor!

raised up "clip-ons".

I would rather go the traditional
Renthals if i can.
Like this but not so "pulled back" because these are made to clear
the stock bodywork.

Do you have a "left side" pic ?
Have you hidden or left the header tank bottle ?

Thanks Ben,
Will do.
The only aftermarket top yolks i've seen have the clamps pulled back towards the tank so the bars clear the stock fairing. This looks odd (to me anyway) on an unfaired bike. If he can supply one where the clamps sit either side of the stem, my money's his.
(Not sure if the ABM kits have fixed raisers or if they can be changed?)
EDIT: Just had another look. Seems like they are bolt on raisers. I only need to buy a "Yolk adapter" not a top Yolk, just need to see what raisers I need so they still clear the fork tops. Thanks.

Tony i'm using busa lower tripples on my 96gsxr 750. The 750 top would go straight on the busa for a nicer look and probably a better fit than using the busa top , busa top has large tapered holes for rubber dampers that wouldn't adapt as easily.
qickdraw
24-07-2006, 08:59 AM
Tony - the 'busa uses a full new yoke, not an adaptor, but because they're bolt-on risers you don't have to get it with the pulled back ones. I can supply it with whatever height risers you want - even some nice fatbar risers!

mate, I moved it under the tail section, very easy, I used an old ally water bottle ( 15 bucks new)
I made my speedo bracket ( I will find some photos) easy.
The S and R triples still use the rubber mount, not pretty but work well.... Rapid has some sweet photos of all this stuff.

Yeah, this is a 2002 model too.
The original plan was to buy a tank and i'd have a full set of spare
trim for my 2004 for a trick paint job but to be honest its probabley
never going to happen and I cant afford to f*ck about with both bikes at the momment.
Missing the single seat hump and most panels are in pretty good to average condition apart from the 1 right lower that is repairable.

see when parts arrive.

Next Question...
Where do I get RENTHAL bars ?
Before you say it "NO" I dont want Fat-Bars / Pro Bars or what ever else.
Looking for Renthal, similar to Moto-X bars, but not stupidly wide, with or without the brace,
in Blue or Gold. Bought several sets in the UK. Dirt bike bars wont work. The set I put on Ellie's
put the master cylinder clamps on the bend which raised the levers at an angle.
(Dirt bike bars dont allow the extra room for switch gear)
I think Dez had a similar problem?
Paul Baericks MPE. 1/20 Free St Beerwah ph 54390088.
or Cassons in sydeney stock twin wall fat bars for $270 and fat bar mounts for $150. ph 02 96841210.
if ya have no luck let me know as i have little A grader apprentice who's sponsored by em and may be able to help

give you the extra bit for switch's.

Did a few boring little jobs today,
worked out which 3 bulbs fit the headlamp,
fitted Grips, fitted mirror mounts etc etc,
Though I would try and "dummy mount" the fairing at a better angle.
Got some cheapo Bunnings universal brackets and spent age's cutting and bending. All ended up in the bin [}:)] :D
Big standard steering damper across the bottom yolk means the fairing gets mounted to high, or stuck waaaay out front with a huge gap behind it. ME NO LIKE! Time for a re-think.
As the Horsepower will be going up and the weight going down,
and a lot less weight over the front im not keen to bin the damper (although that is an option).
Trick aftermarket dampers seem mount across/above the top yolk infront of the tank, again not an option with the new clamps/Renthals.

Thanks Guys,
Yeah Booster, that would work and would still look OK with a raised subframe, although im not over-keen on slowing the steering down or losing ground clearance more than it is, still worth thinking about though.
Fimp, I hadn't thought of using a "straight-rod" damper infront of the tank. That might work. It was the Busa "rotary-damper" that I havent got room for. Like this...
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3196/topdamperkc5.jpg
Someone else just suggested I keep the stock damper and make mounts to try to space it down lower.
Tony.J.
mate there is numerous aftermarket trail bike universal dampers that are designed for high bar kits.Best thing would be to take it for a ride without 1 and see what happens.I took mine off and never noticed the difference, but i put it back on due to mental reasons, not sure why as it has about 2 inches play before the dampening actually works due to fucked seals...like i said, its a mental thing.

Digi dash from Ben is the answer mate. Bring that funky looking headlight unit right up to the forks then. I'm more distressed about the toucan front guard.......

Yeah, I have all the details on the mini-dash's Ben was selling.
Was really hoping to keep the Busa Dash, It does the FI fault finder, K's per ltr, and lots of other tricks, and I like the Big easy to see rev'counter
But even if I trim the fairing, it still wont sit around the clocks, they're too large. Mmmmm...... thinking......
Plus.... the shape of the fairing won't pull in real tight around a Busa front end even without the clocks.
Might find/fit a late SV rear end and see what it looks like then,
raised rear suspension and jacked up subframe should alter the lines.

I was hopeing Ozkat was going to start churning out those nice
slim Gixxer front guards ;)

Yeah the clocks have to go Tony. They are huge!.
I have the acewell off Ben. Bang for your buck, you cant beat it. Also look at the GP style dash that Stu is doing now as well. Its a bit dearer but it does have an analogue tach, which i do miss.

tony, which sv tail you chasing mate? the 99-02 or the +03?
id imagine your wanting the 03 tail. but for some strange twisted reason you want the 99-01 tail, mines coming of the sv before xmas, subframe and all. its being replaced with another bikes rear end so i wont be needing it really.

Only my opinion but I think the early Tail of Joes bike suits the curvier Bus better.
The newer version might be too angular! Will be inetrested to see what you go with Tony.
Shayne
keep the busa gauges, you got that mount for em and everything! i'm sure you could get a little shroud around them like cammy did on his 9r. and that bellypan was a seriously good buy. it looks friggen SWEET.

I think the tl1000s tail would look much better with the busa tank than an SV. Its slimmer than the bulbous stock tail but still has the organic curves. Just another thought.

Thanks Guys, did like the late model SV with its sharp
lines and LED lights, but will look at the other suggestions.
Needs to be slim/pointed with its own subframe, I'd like to use factory lights, rear pegs,
single seat cowl etc (rules out Z1000 but not similar 636)
Mmmmm......
Hadn't realy though whether to go sharp lines or curvy ?

Bikes gone on a little Holiday.
Im working more hours, further from home,
and have too many things happening in my life at the momment,
so I have farmed a few jobs out.
Its getting new Clutch and brake lines,
New headlight mounts,
Heavily modified wireing loom,
New front indicators,
New or modified steering damper,
Cut down front mudguard,
Polished rims,
Polished grab rail,
Hose stubs cut off the radiator and refitted at neater angles,
and several other idea's we are playing with.
Was going to get a paint job done at the same time,
but its pretty pointless when Im hopeing to lose the rear
bodywork soon anyway.
Feel free to shoot me down for not building my own bike,
but I want it back on the road and it wasnt happening !

If someone can supply me with a Busa front guard either broken, sctatched, cracked or even a good one, ill make up a cutdown version similar to the GSXR1000 or even a small streetfighter style one. It must be complete tho, even if it is in peices. If you can get me one ill give you a cut down fibreglass version for free. But remember ill have to chop the original one up so dont expect it back in the same condition as you sent it. :D

Sorry Mate,
"Shredder" had a spare but he's cutting his up,
mine is under the knife about now too.
Will keep my eye out,
Would still like a slim USD/1100 style one.

Looking real good so far Tony - I remember talking to you about this one at Fishos.
Can't wait to see her on the road - Nothing like a big bore naked mate.

Thanks. I would be happy if it looks anything like as tidy as your 12.
In the last week its had.....
Polished front and rear rims,
Polished Grab rail,
Bright yellow plastic coated front and back brake lines
(2 lines, front master cyclinder straight to calipers)
Similar hose on rear brake,
Similar hose on the clutch,
Front facing radiator hose stubs cut off and mounted on the rear,
.....and the wiring loom was being put back together after its "cut-and-shut" chop job, all relays and fuses hidden or tucked away,
and front guard about to get a "trim".

Damn Tony, with all that work you're doing I'd had better get my arse into gear and sort my ride out.
Way to raise the bar you bugger[:p]

:D No problem Mate.
It would be funny to put both bikes next to a stock 12 and 13
one day to take a few pic's.
Getting some "trim-panels" made up to fit between the tank and
the frame (huge ugly gap) and some sort of grill to fit over the
ram air holes in the frame.
Might be getting a coat of Blue paint just to see what its like
in one colour. Not sure about a flash paint job as the ugly standard
seat unit is "going" some time.

Im sure its not in the true spirit of Streetfighters,
but im working 7am to 5pm with an hours drive either end,
6 days a week, living in a rented house with limited space.
Made the decision to work hard at what im good at, and pay
someone to do the jobs I couldn't do anyway, wireing, paint,
radiator etc.
Got to be better than riding a stock Busa any longer.

Hey i'm up for that after I've got my new paint down.
Anyone know of some stockers that want to be shamed? It would make for a real good photo setup.
