SR400 as they are very common there. The SR500 is rare there and has wire wheel & a TLS drum . The SR500 is a cult bike and the Australian Exporters pay well for them.

i'm collecting bits for my pre-unit that will look simular to the red one on this page, the large main bearing 6t case i've got will take the 750 bonny crank, rods, cams, barrels with the cases bored out and 10 stud head, cheaper than recoing the old early 60's stuff , i've got a 46 frame that i've raised/raked the steering head and a 500 -4 front end with 4 over fork tubes from the states- got the contact from a bloke that had his 750-4 parked near the asf site at the laverda concourse last year, got the 5x16 and also got the option of 18" rear wheel depending on ride with the sprung solo seat i'd put up pics but atm its just a pile of parts

Chops and bobs came from an age when you didnt have shop bought bolt on fast.
To go fast you shed weight on a bobber so all the trimmings were binned, Chops were to look diffrent and be comfortable on the open roads of america mostly and give a big fuck you to the social norm ect

I started biking in the mid 70s when chops were all the rage.
But nothing changed in the next 40 years.

Its the: "why would anyone ride one" is what I do`nt understand.
They do`nt handle, they arent comfortable or a natural riding position.

I`ve only ever ridden one feet forward bike in my life on one occassion. I`ve been riding bikes for 38 years. Says enough.

That turbo honda 4 in the background is why I like 70's style "choppers". These day's everything has to be v twin but back then even the big names built jappers.

Arlen Ness built some amazing show bike HD's back then, but his bread and butter was 750/4 frame kits already molded/painted. The "bobber" look today is not how they were built back then it's a new style.

A 70's HD bobber was a Pan/Genny shovel in an earlier or aftermarket rigid frame or the later FLH's stripped down, they didn't have all the "mechanical" type fluff/nicknacks like they use today, that black shovel I posted above would be the style of the era that shows the true look, simple, clean and functional.

My favorite HD style was the "frisco" style sportster, but cant find any pics to show!
90% of the HD's in my 70's mags were sportster's street/show they were the most popular.

The "new" bobber style today is pretty cool because you can use any type of bike, like a 400/4 for example eh Weaselman?..........

There are a few of styles of bike I would never own or ride,
but that dose not mean I cannot enjoy them or appreciate them for what they are ?

Choppers are another form of extreme customised bikes to streetfighters. Thats how it is :)
