Quite possible Weaselman. I sub to GK . Not a bad rag. Neo Dutch & I are in the Chopper Builders, a Western Sydney based club were you have to have proven ability before you are asked to join. Am just finishing the dry build stage of an XR600 Bobber for Bages in the ACT. Here's the arse view .

You who build may find this story rather funny: Blokes I work with are HD nuts one has a mate who's mate bought an "OCC" shop floor bike all up with freight/import duties was 120k+, they all dribble about how good it is "oh the chrome! oh the paint! fuck it's so cool!". In SA we have guidelines for rego if your mods fall outside these then you have to apply for construction permission and go through approval (engineers report/testing ect). All imported production motorcycles must meet ADR requirements. Matey boy did not know this!!! he books an inspection rocks up with the bike on a tilt tray because it wont fit on a trailer!! The rego boys inspect the bike, his paperwork then inform him it is too long, too much rake, has to be ADR compliant because it was manufactured as a production vehicle and can not be registered or even used on a permit until it is!!! So now he has 120k worth of garage art!!!!

There is alot of that going on in fact. Not just from imports. Many of the domestic shops also fail to tell buyers their rather expensive new toy stands no chance of passing ADR's . In the last year I've had about 8 like that come round to pick my brains/ask me to fix it. The average fix requires a new frame , guards , pipes , forks and alot of other bits. Basically just use the engine/gearbox & not much else in a new bike. A Natli's Chopper with less than 1000kms on the clock recently sold for $16,500 which was $50k less than he bought it for a year ago. Reason was the frame was stuffed , the engine was shot and the rest needed major repairs or re-design.A genuine OCC bike recently changed hands for $45K and he only got that because the new owner is a non-riding fan of the show. Pretty shithouse really. Thats why we keep it real and do it ourselves.Know it's done right that way.

How do you go getting your Chops registered Wayne? If you build a frame from scratch, are they treated as I.C.Vs & have to have structural stress/twist tests, weld xrays, meet current emission laws, etc? Or do you stick a Comp Plate on & stamp some numbers from a donor frame & slip it through as just another bike?

B.T.W. Effie, do you have an endless library of Chop & 'Fighter pics or do you just surf around 'til you find another one then stick it up? Either way, I'm impressed mate, keep up the good work.

I jump through hoops and get them Engineered. Usually don't need to get them stress tested or Xrayed as i'm thorough with the paperwork on my materials & provide pictures . Have to meet current emissions , braking and other current ADR's . But there are ways around many of the things .

And while I think of it, weren't you supposed to have picked up your parts a few weeks ago?
