I have been looking at CBR1000RR exhausts for a while now and finally took a punt on one for 30 bucks, I don't think it's even beeoa running bike!
You would think it was made to go under the tail of a GPZ1100.

Looks good should be hidden well under the bodywork, but with the monoshock where ya gunna put the big old battery?
kiwi kdx
27-12-2012, 07:18 PM
Yeah im pretty happy.
The monoshock will mount at the same level as the cross brace bar and the exhaust runs down the right side of the frame to meet up with the cutout in
The R1 swingarm and ill run it at the same angle as the tail support bar.
And i wanna run one of those tiny gell batteries. if that dossent work...
Fuck it ill just bump start it so i can keep my exhaust!

yeah there will be a heap of room left for the mono and electrics, as i will be running the exhaust down the side of the frame to meet up with the cutout in the R1 swinger.

A few people I've spoken to about the the new hi-tech batteries say they may not be 100% reliable when hooked up to old style charging systems due to the way the current "spikes" up and down and the way the older reg/rec draw/control current, all just in "theory" as nobody know's anyone that has fitted one into an old bike.
the oldest bike I know that has one fitted is a 916 owned buy a bloke that has a fetish about removing weight from it, can't remember what it's called but he just got a whole lot of bolts made in the USA from something lighter/stronger than his titanium ones.

stiffsimon

Rod did Hutch have an AntiGravity battery or a Shorai? I was going to get a Shorai myself but the antigravs seem to be a better product, on paper anyway.

From what I was reading it seems that for a 1000cc road going bike they recommend a 12 cell. An 8 cell would be good enough for track, but might not last as long on the road.
Hutch, how much would a 12 cell antigravity cost?

vapor blasting is the better way mate it do not afect the surface like blasting
stiffsimon
21-01-2013, 01:18 PM
But then if the alloy is oxidised and flaky wouldn't bead blasting give a better uniform key for paint?
kiwi kdx
21-01-2013, 01:33 PM
and still rips the paint off?
kiwi kdx
21-01-2013, 01:40 PM
mmm just looked up vapour blasting... that shit is the ducks nuts!!!!
im unsure about paint, i want an all alloy engine, but i know bare alloy will age quickly so maybe i should paint it alloy colour????
ozzy1100
21-01-2013, 02:28 PM
im just looking into vapour blasting now (might be ending up with a side line biz out of it )
from what I have read there is something about the process that stops the ally oxidizing
so you can leave raw and it will only ever dull not change but as yet havnt been able to verify
up here you can have it done but last time scotty had it done it was over 700 for the cases, barrels, head, cam cover etc
so a bit pricey but fuck me I cant say just how good it looks
i hope to be able to do at around $75 hr but its still planing and up in the air........
ozzy1100
21-01-2013, 02:29 PM
edit that just remembered my head had it done and is raw and hasnt oxidized so quess its true then lol
kiwi kdx
21-01-2013, 02:39 PM
fuk meeeeeeee!!!!! 7 hundy!!!!!! thats more than my engine!!!
well if your gonna start doing it on the side i may just hang off for a bit.
but i do like the idea that i could leave it raw.
maybe you can do a test run on your new Z650/750..... LoL!
ozzy1100
21-01-2013, 02:42 PM
no the 1100 motor is def the 1st in if it all pans out and thats a big if

came out nice, first on your list should be deciding what piston size you want and wether the case will need to be bored out.
a set of heavy duty APE studs and a main bearing support plate (top of main bearing support needs to be machined flat to fit one) would be a good start to the parts collection.
and DO NOT buy those stainess case bolt sets you see on egay, they are absolute shit and a complete waste of money.
MattyDucati
18-02-2013, 03:44 PM
i been wondering where you been. looking forward to this build
kiwi kdx
18-02-2013, 03:48 PM
haha its all good i diddnt go too far...
good to know EFE i have a set of them on my watch list.
as for pistons ill wait to see whats inside my other engine and go from there.
EFE 1230
18-02-2013, 04:16 PM
the bolt set threads aren't cut right and they grab the case threads make a "tink" noise then snap (ask me how I know) and they also vary in length compared with factory bolts and will break through the engine case when done up (ask me how I know)
at least I be smart enuff to try dem on junk cases first uh huh......
ozzy1100
18-02-2013, 04:25 PM

EFE 1230
18-02-2013, 04:39 PM
that sould be mtc full 1230 kit
I would rate wiseco above mtc weight wise, the 1134 mtc pistons in mine have been shaved and trimmed everywhere possible to shed the weight and they still weigh more than 1260 wiseco's.
not a problem for road use but not what you want on a drag motuer as the more weight on the end of the rod the more it will stretch at revs (normally allow for about 2mm I think).
ozzy1100
18-02-2013, 04:40 PM
you picked the wrong type of bike for a low monney pit as if I can talk llol
no red anything old boy there is the old 1463 big block of a bike I did some crew work for at the track
on the shelf at scotty's thats the pic in my build thread. might be 1420 the 1463 or even 1500 but wont make any more hp but more grunt and a sand cast big block just looks the dogs
ozzy1100
18-02-2013, 04:42 PM
mate in a drag motor mtc all the way over wiseco from what I have seen at the track and in the workshop imo

that's the oil passage way and it needs to be removed so you can clean all the shit out of it, I used a couple of cans of supershit degreaser and a pressure washer to spray all the little oil holes/passages in my cases.

get an OEM titanium R6 can for it, it'll make it sound like it should, and stop the rear tyre from rubbing on the exhaust.
They make great a great commuter.
kiwi kdx
19-03-2013, 08:18 PM
Yeah ever since I missed out on yours mate I have just had to have one....... And fuk they boogie!!!!!
I'm sure there is a can floating round work somewhere.......
As for the commuter it turns out Ormeau to Moorooka is not the 34 mins google maps says it is, more like 55 mins with super lane splitting and filtering..... Not so comfortable after an hour.
I also need to re- gear it, some Fukien knob jockey has put a 38tooth rear on it! I can't hit top gear until I'm doing 130km/h
Redmohawk
19-03-2013, 08:26 PM
130 in top sounds about right for commuting :o
Saw the KTM on gumtree and looks really good for the dollars. Motards are great commuters but the tyres wont last. A 38 tooth seems a bit small. Stock sprocket should be around 42.

i ran 16/42 on mine, once it was jetted properly, it meant that second was a good gear for slow speed (25kph) commuting not too snatchy, plenty of punch when their was a gap. I also found power pures were pretty good rain or shine at about 25psi cold, give or take.

suzi roller cranks and you don't want to spend 2.5k to 3.5 k for a felecon crank in states.
Trust me when I say more than a bit of effort and a life time of exp has gone into makeing these things
a lot truer and better than anything else I have come across :-))

I rode the new KTM990 smt at work yesterday (in fact I have ridden 87 different bikes in the last week)........WHAT A FUKIN WEAPON!!!!!!!!! I want one.
But until I win lotto I'll have to stick with my 640, which with its new 40 tooth rear is a lot more lively down low,
I could probably go up to a 42 and drop the front to 16 and really have some fun, but I'm doing 45km a day on it so I need to be particle, and I wanna stay on it too.
I also spent a few hours cable tying, greasing, tightening, cleaning all that stuff you wanna do to a new bike, I also swapped out the old 60/55 headlight bulb for a 100/90 so I can see and I turned the headlight up the rite way (after it just passed a RWC)
I'm looking at getting a MX rear guard of another bike and chopping the subframe down to spruce up the look a bit too.

RIGHT!!!! Ripped into my engine today,
I'm pretty happy with what I have found, the head is in great condition, I reckon a valve grind and clean and it's done.

The barrels need a bit of work, I can still see the hone marks but however long sitting idle has produced some surface rust,
I may get away with just a hone but I need to look at them a bit more:
But no scores or burn marks! Yay!!!!

Yeah I have only had a quick look over it, there is a very very small bit of side play on the big ends but i think thats acceptable,
no up or down movement
The mains roll smooth and quietly.
What else should I be looking for mate?

I couldn't even buy the material to build myself a bench for that.
