New battery still won't work, gonna have to go Lithium and as small as possible....

I went to pick up the bodywork from the painter in Sydney this weekend, infortunatly the tank had an imperfection in the clear so it's getting re-done. Damn!! Also it seems that some of my things are coming up to Brissy earler then expected, so the build is actually going to finish off there.

Fitted the new 320mm discs with the spacers I had made up as well as fitted the new Venhil braided lines (Courtesy of Motorcycle Tyre Warehouse) and bled them.

Got to Sydney after having a small issue with the trailer which Kev helped me out with. Picked up my tank and h/light from the painter and decided to fit them while Kev was cutting out a bracket for me for the trailer. In true streetfighter style thi swas done whilst the b ike was still strapped onto the trailer

Been a bit hectic since I drove up to Brissy but finally managed to get some work done on the exhaust. Big thanks goes to Lynton for making the link pipe. Best part was this was all done using the standard link pipe which as we found out was Titanium, just like the headers.

Chopped the link pipe up and had to get rid of the flange mount. Wanted to keep the flared section as it fit perfectly in the new muffler, so out came the trusty grinder.

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx348/wackyrider/Gixxer/null_zpsc0e3cfde.jpg (http://s770.photobucket.com/user/wackyrider/media/Gixxer/null_zpsc0e3cfde.jpg.html)

Cleaned it all up nice and then chopped the link pipe tp suit. It sounds so nice and easy but a fair bit of time went into getting it just right from all angles.

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx348/wackyrider/Gixxer/null_zpsd2609fc8.jpg (http://s770.photobucket.com/user/wackyrider/media/Gixxer/null_zpsd2609fc8.jpg.html)

Got it all mocked up in place then Lynton tacked it up in place to make sure it was all set correctly

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx348/wackyrider/Gixxer/null_zps0b367a59.jpg (http://s770.photobucket.com/user/wackyrider/media/Gixxer/null_zps0b367a59.jpg.html)

Link pipe was then removed and welded up properly.

Ok, so I'm in need of some technical help as I'm now a bit stumped. The bike is throwing out 14.8V. I have earthed the rectifier with heavy gauge wire going directly to the negative pole on the battery. I have also replaced the rectifier thinking this was the problem, but I am still getting the same issue.

Could it be the alternator is throwing out too much current for even the rectifier to be able to lower enough?? Is this possible? Was mentioned by a friend of Lynton yesterday at the shed while shit loads of head scratching was happening.

Any help would be appreciated as I just want to ride the damn thing now!!!

hey Jules, is 14,8 volts enough to cook the battery?
Had a quick look on the net and found this post. Even tho it is a honda the bloke has a gsxr reg and it is putting out 14,8 volts.
Is there anyone with a k4 1000 you can ask to check their output?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PevgFfi_oaY

There's a lot of threads about troubleshooting RR, but it's hard to find info on where to buy a good replacement. So here' my story. If you're not into long stories just skip to next message for usefull links.
I bought my 1991 cbr F2 in May 2006 with 16,000. I knew that R/R was a weak spot, so when I had my battery die on me AFTER a ride in October 2006, I decided to check the regulator/rectifier voltage output first. At idle it was about 12.3, and no matter how high I would rev it up it wouldn't read more than 12.4.
Before blaming the R/R I did the stator check: consistent resistance 0.5 -0.6 between each 3 wires and cosistent AC voltage as well
( about 50V at 5000rpm). I also checked resistance between each stator wire and ground- there was no short. That means stator is good.
I also tried to do reg/rect resistence check according to Clymer manual, but you need a special brand multimeter.
I went to www.electrosport.com (http://www.electrosport.com) to buy replacement ( $110). I installed it and around 5000rpm I would get 14.5 V- good!!
I had my headlight off the bike at that time and I did carburator synch( which includes a lot of idling). I finished that and took the bike for a ride- everything seemed ok. Then, before putting the plastics back I decided to check the R/R voltage again to be sure, and--it was 12.3 at 5000rpm. I was shocked!!! My new Electrosport Reg/rec got fried in one day. I did load it up pretty good by idling without headlights for 15-20 mins while doing carb synch but still!!
I took off R/R and did R/R DIODE TEST according to this ( Page C)
http://www.offwidth.co.uk/bike/gener...lt_finding.pdf (http://www.offwidth.co.uk/bike/general/electrical_fault_finding.pdf)
I highly recommend this troubleshooting chart.
I found that one of the diodes was bad.
I called electrosport and since my unit has a warranty they agreed to exchange it for me. Later I found out that you can put a suzuki gsxr (http://cbrforum.com/forum/#) unit, so I cancelled my elecrtosport reg/rect and they refunded my money( except for shipping).
I bought a 2003-2004 gsxr R/R off ebay (http://www.ebay.com) for $20.
It has 5 wires, like honda but the connector is different.
Identifying wires is easy:
Honda Suzuki
3 white( alternator) 3 black
1 Red ( positive)1 black/red
1 green( negative)1 black/white
I cut off both connectors and soldered the wires, since I heard the connectors are a part of the problem anyway( they create a lot of resistence and my cause R/R to burn)
Suziki R/R is much bigger than honda unit, and since I'm kinda a perfectionist I removed all the bolts that attach the plate through which R/R is mounted to the frame. I drilled 2 new holes, so that new suzuki gsxr (http://cbrforum.com/forum/#) R/R seats perfectly, I also used CPU heat grease between the plate, R/R and frame( just in case). Suzuki Unit fits perfectly and has enough clearance for plastics and seat. It does seem to give out a lot of charge right off idle and then taper off to 14.5 as rpms increase.( 12.3 at idle 14.8 at 2300 rpm 14.5 at 5000)
I also installed a 5 function digital voltmeter. http://www.casporttouring.com/store/...de=Electronics (http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=14124&Catego ry_Code=Electronics)
I attached it to the speedometer lig

I think the new challenge for the rest of the year is to do a skid in Lynton's driveway.

Jules. Bike looks great (in the dark anyway). Good stuff. You'll have to bring it to a Test n Tune now
