a great coincidence that i just found... the Mille actually has blue braided lines on the front... so it will match the rest of the bling off the Tuono.

xa-mont
25-10-2011, 08:01 PM
got the pair for 4.5k

Plans for the Tuono are to pilfer it for everything i need/want (bling, wheels, swingarm, bling, maybe calipers if i can find forks for them to fit, maybe some body work) then flog off the rest.

If the fork lowers are the same diameter,im sure it's possible to swap the ends of the forks over,if you want to use those calipers.
Serious motard guys do it to put radial calipers on their bikes.

I reckon this will be a nice build, starting with what you have there

Sorry,Just noticed started another topic elsewhere on changing the lowers.

Wheeled the bike back out of the shed to get some pictures of the damage before i get cracking on it.

First thing to do is get the front wheel off the Tuono straightened. Anyone know someone in the northern suburbs that does that?

Jules can you remember who the dude said?

Also i noticed when looking over it more tonight the subframe is a little tweeked off to the left. should be easy enough to fix though.

I used Neway wheels in Melbourne mate. If i remember right it was about $100 bucks, back when i had the R6. They got something like 6 kinks out and there was no vibration whatsoever, even at real high speeds

27-10-2011, 09:03 PM
yeah that's kinda the plan. just gotta get it out to check out the condition of it. the front valve cover is smashed off so there may be more damage. I gotta get to it first to see.

I got the bars and top triple off tonight (as well as the wheel) and didn't end up cleaning up at all 'cause pulling shit apart is heaps more fun! :P

The covers are the same from memory but the heads are not.
Is the Tony dash OK?
It is half the brain for an Aprilia.

xa-mont
27-10-2011, 09:58 PM
nah no dash on the T, it had a super massive impact directly into the headlight/dash area me thinks... maybe head on into a wall or sometime? i don't think the previous owner would have been in a good state... I might have a dash organised from the UK. The dash actually provides fuck all back to the ECU, only model type and odo i think (i spent most of my day looking into it cause the mille dash looks like a bag of ancient shit!)

Oh shit... really? well what's your address? :P

I will have the brembo wheels off the Mille for sale when it's done, only the front has a buckle in it but it isn't too bad.

just like this... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aprilia-RSV-RSVR-Mille-Tuono-Rear-Wheel-Brembo-/190590746275?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2c6017fea3#ht_500wt_1413

oldskool
28-10-2011, 07:07 AM
They are not OZ racing wheels by the look, Aprilia used a copy on their standard models, think you'll find the dash is a loop point to the ECM and without it or even a faulty one it will not run and sometimes only in limp mode.

Gitzy
28-10-2011, 07:44 AM
Lol 'Limp Mode'

Danmit I just found out Aprilia wheels are an easy fit to TLS, pretty much same everything.. Trav YOU SUCK..

Get building.. Reckon you'll be done in the next 13 days? [8D]..

xa-mont
28-10-2011, 07:48 AM
i think there is no hope for NFR... there is however hope for Drags!!!

Apparently they are OZ racing wheels... what makes you say otherwise?

I have just bought a dash from the UK. ~$100 shipped, it has a small chip out of the plastic surround but apparently works, so i can live with that... might need some parts of a wiring harness though, cause the wiring in the front of the Tuono is a little squished.

The Oz racing wheels were only on the Factory R and are a satin finish the copies where a glossy finish and a different blue I think are marked with brembo.
The factory R had ohlins front and rear and lots of carbon stuff.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-29124654.jpg

Air box was not so great:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-29124429.jpg

The engine is a little more broke than i thought, but it seems it is just the front cam, or front head at worst. So i'll probably still go ahead with the swap eventually.

Also thinking about making a coffee table with a glass top out of the frame that is .... well ... not in great nick...

xa-mont

Got a bit of work done on the keeper yesterday.

Subframe off, and the Tuono subby isn't too far off fitting, just need to cut off about 6 inches from the top mounts and weld them back on and it'll be fine me thinks (gotta put the tank back on the get a real idea) All the fairing off minus the vary front, as it is staying for Rego/VIV, then later on i'll get a different headlight/dash and get that happening. Also whipped the clutch cover (the whole thing, not just the outer one) and put on the 2nd gen, NON-Holy one on there.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-30125209.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-30133904.jpg

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-30190622.jpg

Need to find myself an oil cooler to replace the bent and broken one on there. (anyone got any suggestions for this?)
Found a couple more differences while i was playing. The 2nd gen Tuono has thinner forks (at least at the top triple) so the top triple wont fit, and i think it also has a different steering angle. So it will be clipon's for now. (anyone got some 53mm clip-ons they want to sell/lend me till i sort out putting the Tuono triple on)

wackyrider
31-10-2011, 10:51 AM
Trav, can the top triple be made to fit? what are the fork diameters for the top and bottom triple on both bikes?

xa-mont
31-10-2011, 10:56 AM
The mille is 53 top 53 bottom, the tuono is 51 top 53 bottom. so no chance of making it fit (not really enough meat on the tuono top to take 2mm diameter out of it)

I've got my eye on some 2nd gen forks... and also maybe some ohlins... that will fit (ohlins will need a new bottom triple too, cause they are 51/56)

DCRacing
31-10-2011, 03:27 PM
Think i might have some 53 mm clip ons......... will try to check tonight

xa-mont
31-10-2011, 03:46 PM
Thanks mate!

xa-mont
31-10-2011, 08:47 PM
So... swingarm doesn't fit...

I THOUGHT this was a simple swap... turns out it isn't such a simple swap.

The 2nd gen singer is about 4mm wider than the 1st gen... question is... where is the extra width, and what can i grind down? (or machine... whatever :P)

I can make it fit WITHOUT the spacer/bush in the left hand side, and it leaves about 1mm... like so:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-10-31203110.jpg

What i am thinking, is that i should be able to machine almost all the extra space that i need from that bush as it sits out by 2-3 mm anyway... so maybe if i take that down as low as i can, and then take a mm or so off the other side of the swingarm, i should be fine...

Cheers,
Trav

and.... IT FITS!!!!

WIN!

Here it is fitted without the bush: obviously wouldn't work, having swingarm on frame rubbing action. But shows that the shock linkage is within range (it rides on a long bush so has a little room to move)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-11-01113943.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-11-01113933.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-11-01113951.jpg

so I decided that I couldn't be bothered waiting for ideas and plans... I just went at it like a bull at a gate... AND IT WORKED!!!

All I had to do was take about 2mm off the bush... which I did with my trusty angle grinder... SO ACCURATE! :P cleaned it up nice and square on the belt sander and vuola! IT FITS! the front sprocket is probably about 2mm off, but it looks like the 2nd get front sprocket might have more offset than the 1st gen. so that is my next job, if that doesn't work i'll either space it out or find a sprocket to fit. Most importantly it moves freely, and nothing is touching that shouldn't be.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-11-01120902.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/2011-11-01120909.jpg
(that second one looks like it's touching, but it's just the angle. it has about .5mm

xa-mont
03-11-2011, 07:12 PM
so there was to be a bit of waiting on parts to turn up... but i still wanted to work on the bike... so i decided that i would make carbon frame covers... cause they looks pimp. I may eventually cover IT in some blue carbon/kevlar to match the other blue bits.
