Thanks for the offer, but i have to be a tight ass right now (what with the impending apprenticeship and whatnot) so i'm on a spending hold (unless it's buying stuff in order to make money)

if you meant giving it away for postage cost that's another story... i didn't want to waste your time if you wanted dosh for it... and didn't want to presume that you would give it away.

I'll text ya when i get your number.

here's my latest little plan change...

A tank from an Aprilia Futura (the touring version of the RSV, it has a very similar frame so the tank should be TOO hard to make fit :P) with scoops extended from the end of the tank (the fairing on the Futura normally comes from there.)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/chopv3.jpg

Also i have already gotten rid of the retarded overflow bottle (replaced with a shitty drink bottle to match the blue, cable tied on... will mount properly one day) and I plan on moving the coils and making new frame covers that cover the whole lot and don't show the dip for the coils.

Like the new look. And def go for re-locating the coils. They're a bit of an eye sore where they are

xa-mont
16-04-2012, 11:28 AM
I found a nice cheap rear EVERYTHING from an 08 CBR1000.... now i just have to convince the missus that it is a good reason to spend some dollars... looking like only $400 for the whole lot delivered (everything from the front seat back)

BANDITROD
16-04-2012, 12:26 PM
fuck thats a good price trav

xa-mont
16-04-2012, 12:29 PM
I know right... i've already shelled out the dosh... just justified it as being such good value that i couldn't pass up... i still got the guilt trip that i should have put that into house deposit savings... but what can you do :P

Like i said to Vetty, all the bits bought separately were looking like they would cost me at least double that. and then there would be little bits and pieces that i'm sure i would miss. (like bolts and all that) this way i get it all together ready to be modded to fit my bike.

BANDITROD
16-04-2012, 12:32 PM
thats the best way to buy them mate at least then you can flog what you dont use

xa-mont
16-04-2012, 12:43 PM
and i can hopefully flog the Tuono rear end all together for a decent price as it's all made as a bolt on for a 1st gen RSV/Tuono, so i assume someone will be keen on it.

Had a quick look tonight and looked at that photo of the other ape with this tail on it and it looks like i'll use the stock lower mount and put a new top mount a little bit further back, and WIN! the seat even looks like the front of it will fit up pretty well.

I might need a hand to get the CV joints done on the Disco too before u leave. Steering just gone a bit shit after last weekend. I'm hoping it's them. So now, out of the 4 vehicles I own, only 1 is running at 100%.

Here's the perdy new tail half fitted. just needs top mounts.

I've decided to leave the other tail on until i get the time/money to make a new exhaust system because the current one would look even gayer with the small tail than it does now.

it is cheaper.... here's how it would look... and i guess it's OK... still a bit too heavy looking though (it's a pretty fat muffler.)

Is there no way you can mount the exhaust from the foot peg mount instead somehow (did it on mine). The exhaust hanger ruins what otherwise looks bloody great mate.

xa-mont
08-05-2012, 06:04 PM
the exhaust like that is only going to be temporary anyway, so i think i'll just go with a somewhat ugly bracket from the subframe. I'm sure if i welded the system together i could just re-enforce it at the footpeg, but i don't really like that exhaust anyway, so i'll be making the underbelly jobby as soon as i have the cash or whatever.

RevHead
08-05-2012, 10:15 PM
shorten the con pipe and move the muffler down behind you reset ,then use 8mil strap and make a neat bracket to bolt up behind you rearset

xa-mont
09-05-2012, 06:46 AM
wouldn't work pete. The link pipe would have to be a retarded bend to put the muffler right down behind the rearset without it smacking into the swinger. It's only got about 10mm if that.

so here's how it's sitting right now, getting closer and closer to being done.

I ordered a Shorai battery to chuck in there (my battery was stuffed and the shorai is smaller and lighter, so easier to fit into the more compact CBR tail.) and used my one from the DRZ (same case size) for mock up.

I've got pretty much everything electrical fitted, just need to mount the ECU (found a place to fit it, just need to hold it still and get the wiring there)

All i have left to do is:
- make an exhaust bracket (will be a simple 2 steel rod type jobby)
- make the undertray (well modify the CBR one to fit properly, pretty sure i'll do that by making a cf bit for it.)
- make a tank bracket (its sitting in the right spot, just need to make the bracket to hold the back pivot of it.)
- make a plate bracket and sort out a plate light/indicators (any suggestions kids?)
- make a side infill panel to go from under the tank back to the seat, just to kind of link it all together.
- Paint it all!

BANDITROD

have a look at fender elim kit pictures and go from there mate

xa-mont
03-06-2012, 07:15 PM
yeah i was looking at those all morning, the simplest thing would be to just make a nice little bracket from the stock mounting point and run those little plate mounted lights (like this:http://www.thirdgear.com.au/products/Vernon-Clear-License-Plate-LED-Turn-Signals.html (HERE) which i think is what i might do, but just thought someone might have some more creative ideas that i hadn't thought of. I would like to be able to make some indicators to fit in the little bits under the tail between the top plastics and the under plastics, but i think it would be a little hard to make it look good.

xa-mont
16-06-2012, 11:16 AM
did some work yesterday arvo (love knocking off at 12 on Fridays)

Made up the exhaust bracket (including my first foreigner at work, the little round bit at the bottom that holds the rubber mounts) and painted it black. Looks not too bad IMO (i don't think it could look GOOD because i don't want it there at all :P)

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/IMG_20120615_142037.jpg
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/xacoupe/T%20bike/IMG_20120615_142535.jpg

Also got cracking on the undertray. It will be made out of CF soon. just made it out of shitty this steel to start off with for ease of construction, then i'll bog the shit out of it, make a glass mould, and then make it out of CF and glass. It will mount to the frame at the front, off the passenger peg mounts in the middle (on the inside of the subframe) and squash in at the back under the plastics.

xa-mont
08-07-2012, 03:47 PM
well shit is all happening, and even took it for a ride today... and i'm pretty sure the shorter more open zorst has fixed a little flat spot i had around 4k... so that means more torque wheelies.... which means more fun! :D

I just need to finish off the undertray (just have to give it 1 more sand, 1 more coat of resin, then sand and clear/paint. i'm thinking i'll get some satin clear for it.) and move the RR to somewhere that is going to get it some air. i'm thinking i'll just paint it black, sand off the top of the fins (so they are raw alloy) then bolt it to the bottom of the undertray... unless anyone else has a better idea for where i could put it?

at some point i'll paint the whole thing, cause the paint is fucked and the plastics on the tail have a couple of cracks, but for now it will do. I also want to do the frame, swinger and subframe all satin black and paint the engine gloss black with some blue accents to match the wheels

anywho... here's how it's looking. i'm well happy with the way the tail looks.

Oh and my old man just got some new black TAG bars for his dirt bike... and took of his other black TAG bars... that were 1 ride old cause he didn't like them, so i'm trying to sweet talk him out of them so i can get rid of the gold ones. They're also a little flatter which is what i want.

Also getting it painted soon by a mate who is a qualified painter (and is now one of mums apprentices) just have to decide on a colour, so i went and gave it a tub today and took a few photo's so i can colour it in on photoshop.

here's some of the pics i took. I'll do some photoshopping tonight and post some pictures. Any suggestions of colours are welcome.

Looking good mate. Thinking of getting some pro tapers on mine before it cripples me :o

Whats the tank off? The shape suits the back end well. Was it a straight swap?

Not sure about what colour to go. The blue wheels are throwing me off...you keeping them blue?

xa-mont
29-08-2012, 07:04 PM
the tank is off the same bike, just an "update" model (00.5-03). so it's plastic (not steel like my orig one) and it's got sharper styling, which i agree suits the tail really well. being from the same bike was almost a straight swap, just had to fiddle with the rear mount a little.

Probably gonna keep the blue wheels, cause i also have blue blingy rizoma bits.

nick76
29-08-2012, 07:17 PM
If you're still gonna do the frame/swinger/engine in satin black.....how bout a blue like the wheels??

nick76
29-08-2012, 07:21 PM

xa-mont
29-08-2012, 07:25 PM
have been toying with the idea of blue, but not sure if that'll be too much?

Frame and swinger will be either satin/gloss black or a dark gunmetal grey.

Engine, i'm thinking gloss black with a couple of blue accents, dependant on how much other blue I use. If i went blue for the fairing it would be full black on the engine i think. (already has stainless bolts, so they should stand out nicely.)

Here's what the new headlight should look like (not quite the right angle, but close enough for a look.)

Also the tank is off the bike for tonight because the fuel pump (an internal unit with a big 8 bolt flange) had a very slow leak. i heard they were hard to seal, but it worked fine the first time. i must have rushed this time. So it's all sealed up again so i don't spill petrol all over Ivan's Dyno tomorrow night :P

Nope it better not leak, letting the fuel out is bad  Id be slightly upset if it lit up while I was running it....

Good looking bike dude, i look forward to seeing it.
