thanks Lance, im pretty chuffed with it!

i was reading that forun the other day, i love the second Gen swingarm without paint!!!
and that suits me well as i was trying to stay away from a black swingarm and frame coz
im pretty sure im going to go with matt black for the body work.

it seems like a pretty simple swap but i have not seen it done with keeping the first Gen
rear wheel, i hope its not too much of a hasstle to lign up.....

kiwi kdx
27-09-2011, 02:16 PM
Piss easy!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hardest part was stripping the paint!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg173/d21terrano/7731bf18.jpg
03 arm on a 00.

The actual swap took all of 10 mins.

swing arm pivot And rear axles are the same between
the modles The only 03 parts I needed were the swing arm
And brake assembly, everything else is off the 00
I did have to swap the bushes over from the swing arm
Mount for the triangle so the bolt would fit, that's all!!

I still need to get the spacers right and gring down the disk
Bolts fir clearance, then get the arm cleaned up a bit better.

BANDITROD
27-09-2011, 02:18 PM
Looks good mate and it sounds like an easy mod for such a nice outcome

27-09-2011, 04:48 PM
That frame and arm match perfectly. Nice work mate.

BANDITROD
27-09-2011, 08:24 PM

I have an 01 with tailtidy back in NZ I'll pick up at Xmas time,
But now u all have me thinking of an 09 tail..........

BANDITROD
28-09-2011, 07:36 PM
Do it mate ...think of the bike ....looking all stock with that tail....it's not fair

kiwi kdx
29-09-2011, 09:32 PM
Found an 04-06 R1 tail and rear seat cover for cheap, so I might grab it
And see how it looks.

BANDITROD
29-09-2011, 09:58 PM

kiwi kdx
30-09-2011, 01:14 PM
right...... after a bit of bad editing i have decided i need a 996 tail!
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg173/d21terrano/996tail.jpg

opinions???

BANDITROD
30-09-2011, 03:17 PM
To me it looks to bulbous for the bike I would stick with a nice little R6 tail personally

latheboy
30-09-2011, 03:20 PM
I think it looks too big as well.
It might be just the scale of the pics you cut together tho.

BANDITROD
30-09-2011, 03:38 PM
What I would do is put in on the trailer/ute and head to the wreckers and just keep trying till you find one you like ...

hooligan
30-09-2011, 03:53 PM
if you like the style of the ducati tail but think it's a bit big, you could try to find a cagiva mito 125 seat. Same thing, but smaller.

Gix11
30-09-2011, 05:14 PM
Just my 2 cents - 916 tail has been done to death, ever since it came out! I know the R6 has as well, but it looks way more modern and much smaller. Bottom line is, it's your bike and your choice mate, but you did say "Opinions?"

kiwi kdx
30-09-2011, 05:54 PM
thats a good point Si, and the R1 tail is by far the cheaps't so i might just stick with that.

wackyrider
30-09-2011, 11:21 PM
hey mate, I was just at the Vic Wreckers today in heidleberg and they have a few modern R6's in there. migh be worth asking how much for a full rear end??

kiwi kdx
01-10-2011, 09:01 AM
........$950!

i thought of that, but thats just silly money!

Redmohawk
01-10-2011, 10:04 AM
thats vic wreackers for you, they wanted $190 for a suffed (unusable cracked scrached missing mounts) tail plastic for a 2006 r6 about 2 weeks ago when they had about 10 good ones and 10 fucked ones !

mr.zxr
01-10-2011, 10:10 AM
Fuckin robbers. In NSW you can't even repair and re-register a write-off anymore so theres going to be heaps of spares on the market. do you think that'll bring prices down.. I got quoted $150 for a zx14 mastercylinder with fucked levers and i bought a brand new one for $149. FUCKIN ROBBERS

kiwi kdx
02-10-2011, 09:01 AM
Man that sux about the write offs, but I suppose it will be
Good for getting parts, I have started using find a part
Then when I get a response I say I can get it cheaper out of
The US and get them to match the price!
Works a treat.

Vic wreckers are wankers I got my gen 2 swing arm there
And they got all shitty coz I said I wanted the bearing end caps with it.
When I go there it takes a lot of effort to not Punch that long haired little
faggot in the face!

BANDITROD
02-10-2011, 09:16 AM

kiwi kdx
02-10-2011, 10:08 AM
Haha good call!!!

mr.zxr
03-10-2011, 07:08 PM
I hope i don't offend anyone, but i have a theory. Blokes that work at wreckers are dumb as dogshit. If they had any smarts they would be able to put stuff back together not just pull it aprart and leave it in pile.

kiwi kdx
03-10-2011, 07:24 PM
This is true, but they are even dumber than that At vic wreckers, I had to show them how to press a steering stem out!

kiwi kdx
06-10-2011, 04:11 PM
yay!!!!!! look what turned up today....

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg173/d21terrano/r6.jpg

though its a hell of a lot thinner than mt subframe.........

BANDITROD
06-10-2011, 04:22 PM

Looks good but I would move it closer to the tank so the tail isn't hanging past the back of the wheel

kiwi kdx
09-10-2011, 07:43 PM
Really? I'm loving the long high pointy tail!
As it sits now I'm using the 00 R6 seats with no
Modifications to the riders seat mounts or
The pillion seat release.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg173/d21terrano/9aa66445.jpg

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg173/d21terrano/edb73f50.jpg

There is a little bit of grinding and filling to do yet
But all in all another fairly easy mod.

I still need to make an undertail, I'm thinking of using
The 01 R6 undertail and twin round lights.

kiwi kdx
18-10-2011, 05:38 PM
Got a few bits done today, just those annoying jobs
U keep putting off, fitting the speed sensor, heat shields
Routing the harness, that sort of stuff.

Got the headlighted mounted.

19-10-2011, 11:16 AM
thanks guys,

im getting the dent taken out of the tank next week, then ist off
for paint!

in going matte balck, and im thinking the rear sub frame needs to be
powdercoated black to hide it a bit, what's ur thoughts???

wackyrider
19-10-2011, 12:28 PM
If you're gonna leave the frame silver, I don't think the subframe would look good in black. However you do need to cover / blend it in some way. Maybe make up some side panels or something

oldskool
19-10-2011, 12:45 PM
Build is looking the goods, dunno about the headlight though.

kiwi kdx
19-10-2011, 12:51 PM

xa-mont
18-12-2011, 05:44 PM

the bloke i spoke to said 300 per inner or outer that is bent... so if all inners and outers are bent thats 1200 for a set.

Be cheaper buying a straight set from the US, and that would include postage. For e.g. my 07 GSXR forks I got from US for $290 including postage, the 2010 R6 units I got $380 a pair including postage. The US has bulk load of parts and most arnt scared of posting to Aust.
Kiwi, those fork legs look beyond repair anyway from the pictures. The outter tubes dont have replacable bushings, so the complete outter needs swapping. and at $300+ each, I dont think you would be wanting that.

kiwi kdx
19-12-2011, 07:08 AM
really??? every time i price stuff out of the US the freight is stupid prices!
the last thing i priced was my swing arm at $46AUD and $200AUD freight!

anyway, the R6 forks in the pic are pretty much fuked, the internals might be ok????

the parts i want to use are the 07 R1 lower legs in the circle, one is straight and the other has
a small bend, im hoping i can marry these up with the 98 R1 outer tubes that are on my bike.

made it a rule to never roll when pissed........

But after a bunch of mates and my girl egging me on all night
i finally agreed to fight a mate/bouncer who weighs about 130 kegs,
(i rock the scales at 78kg)

first round the big galute jumps on me and pops my knee out!

So we straightend it out and it poped back in, gave it 5mins and went to round 2 and
then 3 to witch i made him tap out in both rounds, he was pretty cut up
he lost to such a lil fella!

I thought it was hilarious!

I'de buy an 08+ CBR tail unit... problem is i need a subframe as well (they are kind of part of the look)... and they are expensive.

Probably would work out cheaper for me to just buy a wreck that has the entire front of it fucked up but a good rear section (tail, seat, subframe, lights blah blah blah.)

kiwi kdx
24-01-2012, 11:25 AM
fuk me that sounds like a spendy way to go buddy....

they r a pretty cool looking tail tho.

24-01-2012, 11:28 AM
shouldn't be too spendy if i could find one that has had a massive front on and is fucked from the middle forward... never know my luck :P
