Carb rubber boots ....hard as fuck

    Heyo all,

Any ideas/ brainwaves on how to soften up carb boots so I can refit my carbs?

carbs have been off the bike for 1.5 years and now I'm refitting but the boots are fuckin hard as and i reckon it will be a bastard of a job to refit. The boots are in good condition otherwise.

Are there any greases or lubes that may work better or more importantly which ones to avoid?

    cheers for now,

    Karl

If you reckon they are in good condition then why not try a heat gun (or hair drier if you don't have one) and warm them slowly? Try it on just one and see how it goes.

Thanx will try...been trawling the net and some ideas with rubbing alcohol and wintergreen oil seem to be getting good results

Anyone else had success or tried the isopropyl/rubbing alcohol and wintergreen oil to soften carb rubbers???

there seems to be successful results when trawling the net... but i suppose there are also girls in my area waiting for my call tonight................

Well fitted the carbs ok and started checkin the cable routes When it came to the choke cable the slides were a little sticky and one thing led to another and ended up strippin the carbs All the o rings are fucked as they have been sitting dry for so long. first time stripping the carbs but all went well except for the fucked o rings and choke slides.

ordered a new kit from this crowd in Thailand $55 for a full kit..seems ok me thinx. Has anyone had any dealings with them?

Lets hope they get a good report as i have gone ahead and ordered.

    Progress still being made::

carb o rings gaskets etc replaced ...time will tell if the thailand gasket kit is any good

petcock valve needed rebuilding as all seals farked...

fitted bandit throttle cables ...... better/cheeper option than custom made..choke cable inner is 10mm too short...d'oh

made fork spring compressor in work today and stripped the forks tonight ready for new seals and bushings ....trying to get the bushings ordered

dreading doing the electrics...lights ace well unit etc... being a sparky for the last 20years i am in no mood for soldering when i come home........it seems/looks simple but i just can't be fucked/motivated to do it...will do it eventually.

any ideas where to get fork bushings cheep here in QLD???

more pix soon (I am a slacker with the piccys)

Forks stripped awaiting new bushes and seals....fuck me the oil was shitty when i dropped it...

My mate Pete in work made up a spacer to replace the speedo cable take off...nic e one pete..
