Back on topic....
I've done some research on tyre sizes and the effects on the gearing.
The stock max rear is 150/90/15.....this equates to 4100rpm @ 110k
Mates running a 150/80 and this increases the revs to 4500 at same speed..(he is always first to need fuel on a run)
I'd hoped to fit a 190/50 but this is only marginally better at 4450rpm.
Mono has been majorly helpful here and can supply a 190/60 with a decent profile...
Going by the graph I drew up this would give 3850rpm at 110k
This is more acceptable as its a lot of my time is spent in the 100-120 range....better fuel range .....and enough grunt on tap to roll on smooth....or drop a gear to kick it in the guts and rip the b'jeesus out of it....

190/60 will gear it up but isn't a popular size
if you want anything sticky. Maybe lower rev's
and more K's would be better than outright grip?

Wouldn't a 200/55 give you similar gearing too?
Although that not a real popular size.

Interesting trying to change the gearing with the tyre,
The downside being you can't do it without effecting
several other things, ground clearance, the way it
tips in, the effect on the front end, ect.

I've had a few different tyres on 6" rims and there's
always gains and loss's.

Mono has a couple of good ones in stock that size Tony.
There's also some 200's with very similar size (later plans...new arm,fatter tyre).
As you see on the pics there's not even a subframe at the moment...the bike is set up level in my jig, with rake set as per xjr so whatever tyre I go for I'll build the subframe/shock mounts etc to suit.

I looks into cos the yank forums were all like 'oh no..the gear ratios all wrong with 17"....have to change the diff'
I politely pointed out that they could try new profile sizes....'Doh'

Yeah, I guessed that talking with Mono you'd have
something planned, I was just saying that a 6" rim
is stock on sportsbikes and there's a huge range of
sticky 190/50 and 55's but a lot less choice in the
taller less sporty stuff.

200 tyres common OEM on 6" rims along with 190's.
I only went from a 200/50 to a 190/55 to gain a little
height, get a better choice, and a nicer feel tipping it in.

Depends what you want to do with it?
Tour? Chase sportsbikes? Drags? Show's?

Good thing about tyres is you KNOW they're going to be
f#cked and get to try something new untill the next time.

I'd luv to run something soft and sticky....but vmax+shaft drive = tyre munching....
I tried one on my old XS1100 in the uk....was great....for about 1000 miles.....lol
The190/60's are for the 'power cruises'....Boulevards etc... I need good wear in the centre...the Shinko from Mono was great but after 8k the centre has gone but the sides have loads left.
There's also some good 200's that have a decent, non race, profile.

Ridden a few shaft drives but never lived with one.
I would have expected a 160+hp rev happy sportsbike/
Busa/B-King to have been just as bad? Although they
dont carry the weight. I've just put 4000ks on some
Sportmax Sportsmarts and there's loads left. Qualifiers
were similar too. I have some Pilot Road 3's on spare
wheels but not done enough K's to judge.
Some of the modern sports tyres wear OK.

How much weight are you hoping to lose off the bike?
Something noticeable ?

Have you ran a tape around stock / new and compared
the rolling distance ? I used a cloth tape around the
wheel but just walking it across the garage floor would
be a rough guide. What are you using for a speedo?
stock cable drive or aftermarket?

Stock is 2041mm, new one is 2085mm.
Speedo is going to be electronic, acewell type, sensor mounted off the rear wheel.
The wheels are roughly same weight as stock but lots of weight is being lost elsewhere....hopefully.

Is that just over a 2% gain ?
It's been a long day.

Aftermarket speedo will be good, a quick tweek and
mine was very close to GPS/Satnav dispite gearing
and tyre changes.

Wheels realy do look the mutts nuts !

Also I would like to add that the quality of the workmanshp is so high on these wheels,they are full billet wheel.

However the machining is so good the sides look like they are spun.

that thing is looking sweet already , looking forward to seeing the end product , got a bit of a sweet spot for vmaxs must be the v4 thing

Been working on the fuel tank of late...morphing a Suzuki across tank with the max tank...least that was the original idea....
Decided it was easier to use the across one and custom build the under seat part.
Started with plywood mock up to get rough shape and then made cardboard one.
This was lined with fibreglass resin as a quick sealer to allow me to fill it with water to get capacity.
Stock max is 15 litres...my cardboard one did away with the battery cutout and came out at 15 liters as well...plus the 4 3/4 in the across unit...sweet......
So far I have got a COPS system sorted for it to do away with 4 stock coils, plus I'm going to mount an in tank fuel pump.
There is also an ignition unit on the market that can run the vboost module...the size of a fag packet...(stock is huge)

Started the steel one today....1.2mm cold rolled.
Had a go at bending sheet....just one weld instead of using 5 separate pieces...worked a treat.

when you finish it mate it might be a good idea to use one of those fuel tank sealing kits to stop it rusting

I will mate...tank will be sandblasted in and out, powdercoated and then sealed inside.
It will have and inspection plate on the top,under riders seat so I can make sure its fully coated.
