    LED lights >> adr safe?

hey guys, need your imput. Im getting a few different light setups for my fighter and the faired bike im selling aswell. All the lights i have lined up are LED from the usa. The site tells me that they arent dot approveed and the likes but my dad has purchased different sorts and they are quality and reasonably priced. Thing is though he has just swapped them over on his Warrior but i have my bikes off the rd and these lights will be going through a safety certificate. Do you think that they will play a part in weather i get the cert or not? The lights in question are a billet cat eye 46 LED indicator incorporated tail light and fork wrap around LED indicators for the front. any help would be much appreciated.

    heres pics

queensland regs say ya gotta have 300mm between ya indicators...

there' is certain luminousity ratings that they have to comply with byt LED's in themselves aren't a problem

both the ones shown won't pass to 300mm between centres so ya fucked.....

just be wary of that .... we had an open day for the GP down on the strand and the DPT transport and coppers had a freebie noise test...

The DPT T had flyers made up about a few regs and the 300mm centres was one of 'em..... so I'd say some of the plods will be aware of that reg....

for tail indicator lights.. a pair of clear lensed cat eye indicators they are tiny, mounted either side of the rego plate are fairly unobtrusive.

for the front.. same again with some neat clamps machined up to fit on the forks would do the trick nicely and still be reasonably legal

i was actually emailing hella a while back talking to an engineer there, he was quite helpful but managed to never tell me the exact details of how there LED tail-lights were "adr approved"...

Don't think i can help much as i don't know your laws. But here we have a MOT test to get every year to certify the bike is road worthy.
Again having indicators too close would fail the test over here but they have no probs with the tail/brake lights as long as there is a good brightness difference between them. The gixxer light I have fitted has built in indicators but legally i cant use them. In the pic i have put triangular cut outs in the tail, these are clearly visible from the rear and sides and i have put the indicator bulb inside the fairing. Once i put some mesh over the cut out it will just look like a vent but is actually a craftly hidden indicator.
Also over hear if leds are used as indicators then they tend to flash twice as fast; another MOT failure over here. It can be fixed with some resistors 5-10 ohm 20 watt and wired in paralell.

if the light dosn't have a adr stamp or E on it it ain't adr approved

i got a couple of clear arrow head indicators on my bike. they are small but quite visible. got pulled up by the cops for a rego and licience test and he said that if they don't have all the crap written over the lense part then they are illegal.

he said that he didn't really care to much about it but if i was to have an insurance claim and somone was to say that i didn't indicate or couldn't see my indicator then i would be fucked as the insurance wouldnt pay out because my blinkers were not adr approved.

the thing that shits me about it is that nowhere on the sales packet/books does it say 'for offroad us only'

this is the reason that i went with the proper E stamped headlight and not the MotoX type like most.

deano.. the reason id expect that 2nd indicator to fail ADR's is because of the fact the lens is crystal clear.. meaning no beam scatter (there is a certain amount of beam scatter required).

so finding a set of cateyes like you have, but with a regular style (prismatic) lens would go a long way to making sure your indicators are compliant

    cheers.joe.

the biggest thing about the miniblinkers isnt the brightness but the lack of sureface area that the person behind is seeing
that area must be a minimum ?????mm^2

    not sure of the number
i have often wondered though if i put 2 mini ones each corner is that enough area???

bit like tinted visors. same copper told me that there isn't a tinted visor on the market that is adr approved. as they don't have the sticker on the visor.
