    K2 shock into 94 GSXR750

I got my 2002 GSXR1000 rear shock from the states the other day after winning it for $13.50US on ebay.
Proceeded to pull out the old shock last night and see how easy this conversion would be. I have found out the following

The K2 shock is about 25mm longer and 12mm bigger in diameter.
The length problem can be made less of an issue by unbolting the top shock mount and reinstalling it up side down as the mounting hole for shock is about 19mm offset to the bottom, installing it up side down gives me about 19mm extra length.

The K2 shock also has the reservoir incorporated into the top of the shock. this means that the only way i could fit the shock was to disconnect the air box from the carbis so I could push it forward and remove the filter cover and filter.

The extra diameter is also an issue as the dogbones hit against the spring. I can overcome this by using spacers to space out the dogbones there seems to be enough clearance around the dog bones to allow this.

Even with all these modification complete the K2 shock will still raised the ride height at the rear by about 10mm over standard.

Do you guyes think raising the rear by 10mm will effect the handling dramatically?

i can get around this if I get a custom top shock mount made

Who/what do you recommend for individual air filters as I am going to have to take out my airbox?

so after finding all this out I put the old shock back in and will get some spacers made, buy some filters and reinstall another day.

When I put the R1 back end on my Gix it raised the final seat height by about 20 - 30mm. I know this is a physical seat height change but it will give the same feeling as raised ride height through the shock. Basically, like anything in this game, you adapt. My handling feels a little less solid but I have adapted and I'm back into it again. You're not building the bike into a streetfighter to take out Rossi so run with it mate. It's all good!

Deano.... try 88 750 shock linkages. you will be suprised. also a 8-10mm spacer between the top shock mount and frame will cure the top shock mount probs. dont turn it around. it wont work. the K2 reservoir shouldnt hit the airbox but it should foul the battery box. you have tried mounting it the right way round? the easy fix is trim under guard plastics then remount your battery box rearward as far as the standard battery leads and other wires will go. i hope this helped.
