Thats a big 'S' for Show us you bastard!! :D Looks pretty interesting mate, is that airbrushing??
teaser!
The "S" is for Speculation....
Yeah sort of i couldn't wait any longer to get myself an airbrush so i imprevised and worked out a technique with a touch up gun that i could used in stead.;)Quote:

Four colours used are Yellow, pearl blue, silver, black.[:p]
I'll get some pics up asap i'm waiting for a decent arvo to get out and take some nice shots of it.[^]
Ok here you go, i've gone for a water droplet effect over the whole bike with a graffity type (and one which will be contraversal) suzuki air brushed on to a fluro yellow base.
I personally reacon the bike has come out awesome and am very happy with the transformation of it.
It was finished off with 5 coats of 2k clear for a deep lushous look to the paint.
Pearl blue base-silver water droplets-fluro yellow tag on tank- black air brushed Suzuki- finished with 5 coats of clear.
Knocking up a belly pan at the moment as well.
And built soem new lights for it- couldn't stand the single chrome thing that it came with.
Also raised the rear ride height by spacing the rear shock by 15mm.
And removed the exhaust hanger/foot peg braket for a cleaner look through the rear.
It's a very stock looking fighter really but i love it/and the look i've ended up with.
All comments appreciated both positive and negative.
Cheers Damo

wow, that looks shit to me. just looks like its dirty and been rained on and the suzuki bit looks crap too.
sorry dude just my opinion
I like the paint but not the lights. The 'shrunken head' look of modern fighter headlights is something that I just don't get. It seems that 'tinier the better' is the standard but to me it always looks like there's something missing.
Lots of work gone into that paint Damo. It certainly brightens it up a fair bit but to be honest I preferred it in black [:0]
How do you get that effect on the paint? I spend a fair bit of time making sure I don't get water marks and here's you painting the fuckers in!! How?
Been looking again over the photo's and I reckon if you paint or powder the frame and swingarm black then you'll be onto a winner. Remember the blue ZXR750's? Should be pretty easy for an experienced painter like you to fix that over a weekend [:p]
Is the silencer only braced under the footpegs? You reckon it'll hold up ok with the vibration?
You sound pretty happy with it mate which is the best possible result ;) congrats
i like the Blue and the effect :D
Fvk tell us how ya really feel slickncghia! ;)Quote:

I reckon it look shot hot Damo - great job! Love the blue and the fluro mix. Its individual and thats whats gonna make it stand out. Im thinking of something different on mine too as opposed to the standard "fighter black"
Paint the frame, swingarm, forks, triples and handlebars black. That would really toughen it up. Just my opinion.
do the frame, swinger etc in the flouro yellow
right now i just dont see how the yellow fits in, and that would give it a fuckload of impact imo
Excellent feedback, thanks boys ;)
I knew it was going to be contraversial as i said so i'm not surprised by the negative responses.
Robmac:The water drop effect is created by putting down a base color IE:blue in my case
Spraying just normal water out of a spray bottle all over the job.
(bigger drops take longer to dry- smaller droplets dry quicker)
you then have to spray a very fine mist of what ever color you choose for the droplet, i chose silver.
The paint has to be watered right down to almost 80% tinner-20 paint
you need to be very carful during this prosess to only spray from one direction at all times.. So that way there is only one side of the water drops picking up the paint.
When painting the silver you only just pull the trigger so a very fine mist comes out of the gun, remember you wanta mist not to repaint in the new color.
Took me a few practices jobs to get the dusting and direction perfect.
Then you need to let the water dry out over night/day what ever before clearing the whole job.
If you use a heat gun as i did you need to do it from a distance because if you get to close you will blow over the waterdroplets and fuck your effect- i did this in practice a number of times until i got it right.
I got the idea for no exhaust bracket off the gixer site theres heaps of guys running with out them- so no not that worried.
Fimp: thats a no to the fluro, it would be way to much amnd look
shit in my eyes.
Zooks: yeah the lights are not what i'm going to mend up with i've been promised a headlight unit from another member so they may cahnge, but it is a big difference from the single harly light.
Slick: Cheers for your opinion- but as you know bikes are very personal and i really like it so no big deal, and as i said before i knew it would be contraversial.:D;)
Puppet: yep thought of it already, see what happens down the track.
The colours could have worked if you used a black Suzuki sticker on the tank instead.
As it is now it looks like a piss-take done with a texta.
Cheers for your feedback, opinions are great arnt they??Quote:

Every body has a different one.
Very clever idea mate, and a lot of work. Cant say I love it, but I do admire it, and the thought process behind it. Shame you didnt go a bit more toxic and do the water droplets in the same fluro colour as the Suzuki backing. Then rather than water marks it would have looked like chemicals. I also think anyone worth their salt would know it was a Suzuki, and IMO you mist the oppertunity to call your bike something like TOXIC or ACID RAIN.
Anyway mate, the easiest job in the world is to sit and pick fault with somone elses work.
Great idea, excellent workmanship, superb platform for future development.
Hey mate, Im undecided on the effect, through photo's it does kinda look like its dirty, but I reckon in the flesh the silver would pop more.
Only real criticism is the 'Suzuki' on the tank. It really looks like a rushed job. What you could do in the future (if you ever have the inclination to re-paint the tank) is use Adobe Photoshop or even Microsoft word, google some fonts and find a real slick looking font that you like. Type Suzuki into the program, size it up and set the spaces etc, then print it onto adhesive paper. Cut the letters out and voila, you have a mask that leaves you with an even sized and spaced Suzuki emblem, that could be customised however you wanted it. It would just ad the little bit of a professional touch.
Just my opinion mate, other then that, good work, and I like the colours.
Point taken ;)Quote:

But in defence to all the talk of the tank- it was supposed to look like graffity not a perfect stencil if you know what i mean??
I truth i'm not 100% happy with the finish of the "suzuki" but in saying that i'm thinking of going back over it and spending more time on it.
But it will still look like graffity- cause thats the look i'm after.
I've just fitted my belly pan as well i'll get some pics up soon.
Cheers for the feedback ;)
Maybe i should call my bike "controversie":D
or just "g'hey".
btw Damo, your old paint guru has left Autolac and is now working in the old Powderworks spares building again, not sure what they're trading as tho.I'll let him know you'll be for a litre of matte black soon.
cheers
Fuck off davo, you cocksmoker.
Are you in your closet on your laptop againQuote:

Yeah i heard about your bro, but the matt black thing wont be happening.
Every second bloke has a matt black fighter, i went for something completely different and i knew it would be a contraversal paint scheme from the time i thought of it in my head.
At the end of the day i like it and most don't, but stiff shit if i was a lemming i'd just go the boring matt black look.
I really wanted to test myself to see if i could put down a custom paint job with a quality finish- i think i achieved what i set out to do.
The paint scheme is not for everybody and i respect that, but i thought of it in my head, i put in the big hrs and the work and as all streetfighter builders know i have got the satisfaction of knowing i did it all.
That to me is satisfaction right there regardless what others think.
But i appreciate your feedback[^] and sarcasim as always.;)
You and Puppet not an item anymore???????[:X]
Any way back to the bike heres some more pics.
I've actually redone this and took more time and tried to get it neater than previous.

Belly pan made from an un-picked up seat unit off my old cbr 600.
Got this idea from another member who did an R1 unit in a similar way.

The next and in my eyes most important thing to do next is to replace the "FUCKN DOWN RIGHT UGLY" front guard.
It looks like shit and seriously needs replacing.
More that likly will just go for a standard one.
Anyone out there got a standard guard they want to flick?????
I got another Gixxa mate, and Puppet is still my bitch.
Bellypan turned out good mate! I'v still got a lil bit of work to do to perfect mine, may have to shorten it a bit! The R1 tail is farken long, it fouls slightly on the levers!
AAAAAAA twas you!!!!!! Thanks for the insperation on the belly pan mate.;)Quote:

Yeah i had to do a bit of trimming to get it fairly right around the leavers and also so the frame you can see where i need to take it up a bit higher in one of the pics, still needs a bit of twigging to get it perfect but it's on there and i'm happy with the result.
That Belly pan looks awesome Damo, Hopefully you and Lance don't mind if I steal that idea.
I've got a K4 tail that may work.
Also I'm 90 per cent certain I've got a standard guard if you are still after one.
You still got the ventura rack that was on it when Weasel had it?
Maybe we can do a deal?
I thought you got a zx10?Quote:

Damo, where are you doing the painting?
PM sent mate.
Any questions my number is 0416513076
The paint looks good, very popular effect in the R/C world. I agree with another bloke, i recon using a different colour other than silver for the water droplets woulda looked cool, but in saying that I think the blue with silver is a horn look. Pictures just don't do it justice. I'd stencil the 'suzuki', but instead of doing it as 1 word, i'd do separate letters so its not as 'uniform' then go around the edge of each letter with the airbrush and 'fuzz' the edge so it wasn't as crisp. There are plenty of wicked fonts floating around the net that look awesome.

Fuck me, you got a new bike! About time Davo.Quote:

Sorry to hijack the topic Damo. I can't paint for shit, so I'm highly impressed with the effect mate, way beyond my thought process.
I think version 2 is right on the money Damo, looks heaps more like graffiti, I'm a little undecided on the water droplet effect but top points for trying something different hey.. I agree with Puppet the frame and swinger would look horn being black..

I must say i rushed it the first time.[:o)]
Yeah i agree that not every body will like it[^] but! at least i know wich bike is mine through all the matt black :D
To be honest i'm not 100% on the black frame and swinger, the only reson why is cause it's alot of work to turn around if i'm unhappy later if you know what i mean.
But in saying that! it's definatly in the memory bank for down the track if i do decide to do something else, or for a change.
