She is my every day ride, heaps of mods to come, next one on the cards is to replace the sub frame with either a GSXR or R1 tail, tomorrow I plan on doing a lot of stripping and polishing maybe even a little paint. I have left the nose cone on and just changed the look by trimming it with my handy grinder. Probaly will replace her eventually but don't want to mess with the air intake into the air box until I do some more research, I do about 80Km a day so can't afford to have her running rough.
cheers Rod
whatever tail u put on dont too small,
or that headlight is going to look all kinds of wrong
rip into it!!!
Just picked up a K1 GSXR 1000 tail, I know what you mean about the nose cone, honestly its going to go and a custom head light configuration of some sort will replace it. Just want to make sure I don't bugger up the air induction in to the air box. Don't want the bike to just look pretty she's got to perform as well.
cheers Rod
hey m8 nice bike , my air induction runs through the frame , and similar to urs i ride a k5 gsxr , and it runs perfectly without all that stuff on it , plus heaps of my m8s are running the same . theres a pic in this section of the forum check it out ,
Hey Mark,
thanks for the feed back, yeah it seems a lot of guys like yourself have no problems ripping the air induction off and then others say they lose all top end power, and it starts to run like shit on open roads. They're definately coming off just going to make sure I do it when I have time to sort any air in take problems if they pop up.
cheers Rod
Here ya go Rod:

I've done the mods on my 00 ZX9 - it's not hard to do ;)
Thanks Hillsy, yeah I was reading that column last night, excellent advice mate.
Thats the go, for sure.

Went out yesterday to see Ben from Extreme Creations and he did an excellent job modifying the Gixxer tail for the ninja. But didn't stop there took one look at the undertray and said we can make that fit and started cutting grinding and relocating all the michelaneous parts so they were hidden away.

Made it home... was a little worried for a while, no blinkers, dodgy tail light, loud pipe and riding home in peak Manly Traffic. But ended well.

Even though it was pissing down, couldn't wait to go for a ride as soon as I got the cowl on.

She looks rough but I love her.

I have to say I had planned to take the next month to have the rear tail completed to its current level. Due to the excellent work done by Ben I got it finished in time to ride to work tomorrow. (The Ninja is my only form of transport). Thanks mate I really appreciate your effort yesterday.
cheers Rod
Startin to look proper now Rod, that "Ben from Extreme Creations" bloke seems to know what he's doing. [8D]
Now... about that fairing ;)
Thanks mate,
Yeah got out bid on an XR600 head light last night as I was tinkering on the bike. Thought I had it in the bag. Not to worry.
cheers Rod
As the owner of an XR 600 I'd advise against using one of those lights on a roadbike unless you never ride at night - a candle strapped to the front guard would do a better job [V]
No probs Rod, looks great with the cowl on.[8D]
it worked out well ;D nice effort :D
those welds make my bike look much more compliant, and the remote shock reservoir is much better inverted and mounted internally to the lower subframe so it can actually be adjusted during set up.Anyhow...stay focussed grasshopper, you have much to achieve.

Thanks for the feed back guys, and advice on the headlight Turbokat.
Cheers Rod
Rob, you took them pictures in Maroubra didnt you?? You live in the area?
By the way, nice project mate!
Hey Luke,

Haven't seen him lately, but if it is the same guy I'm thinking of, legendary effort eh, didn't one of the mags do a write up on him last year?

This weekend they're on the lounge, next weekend they will be on the Ninja.
Sweet, I've just pulled all the fairings off my bike again, which was exactly the same as yours when stock.
I'm very interested to see how you go with the headlight and dash unit. Got a bunch of questions for ya:
1) Can I ask what they are, where you got 'em and what they cost?
2) Does the dash work with the stock fuel gauge and front wheel speedo sensor?
3) Are you gonna chop the wiring down or just cram it all in behind the light?
4) Is that a glass or plastic lens on the light?
Take plenty of pics of how you mount those bits and pieces. I'm keen to hear how good those headlight units are for night riding too.
Good luck with it mate!
Hey Loz, hope thanks for your comments, hope this answers some of your questions.
1) Can I ask what they are, where you got 'em and what they cost?
Anwer: The Head light is an aftermarket dirt bike light, the dash unit is an ACEWELL ACE-3963, the radiator over flow bottle is an aluminium drinking bottle. I bought the headlight from the bike wreckers, I bought the dash unit from Extreme Creations he is known on this forum as Exben, the water bottle is from Supa Cheap Auto, the blinkers are from MCA. I have also ordered some bar end mirrors from AUSFR he is on this forum as Qikdraw and Ben from Extreme Creations is also changing my bars and fitting some raisers.
2) Does the dash work with the stock fuel gauge and front wheel speedo sensor?
Answer:I think It comes with its own speed sensor and fuel gauge?
3) Are you gonna chop the wiring down or just cram it all in behind the light?
Answer: Ben from extreme Creations will be doing all the wiring if I'm lucky I might be allowed to pass him the soldering iron.
4) Is that a glass or plastic lens on the light?
Answer: It's a Glass lens
Answer:Definately will take heaps of pictures and post them next saturday night
cheers Rod
Rod, if you can mount those MCA blinkers on rubber or something similar then do so, Oldskool has had a few of those exact units vibrate to bits on his bike.
Thanks TK, Ben was talking about the possibility of mounting them to the rubber mounts which will also attach the headlight, so hopefully that will elimininate the problem.
cheers Rod
Sweeeet... Cheers.
I'm glad you're doing this, it might get me off my arse! :)

Here is some more progress photos of My ZX9R, spent yesterday at Extreme Creations where Ben (Exben) weaved his magic, honestly if there is anyone out there who knows more about creating Streetfighters I would be surprised. Worked completed yesterday was the fitting of the digital dash, new headlight, clean up of the wiring, fitting of raisers and flat bars, relocation of ignition and fitting of new overflow bottle. This morning I gave her a respray using rattle can flat and rattle can gloss on the frame.
