Cleaned up the grooves in the clutch, set the stack at 50.5mm, soaked the plates, reassembled and went out and abused the BUSA. Fun had by all :), got the Bus down to 10.2@143mph sit more in it once the clutch is sorted then its time to play with other go fast bits

Installing a clutch cushion.
While the clutch soaks
Question time, I am installing a clutch cushion in the bus and got some new springs and spacers with it so,
Clutch spring free length service limit is 23.7mm
Spring from the bus is 24.5mm dia 2.5mm
Spring from US is 27.9mm dia 2.3mm
... Both the Brocks and th new spacers are the same height,
So what spring do I run???????????????????
The longer spring is easier to compress but it will be compressed more once assembled in place so maybe heavier.
A shorter thicker spring with give considerably stronger "push" than a longer thiner spring for a similar distance. Think of a coil spring as a straight bit of wire the longer or thinner the easyer it is to deflect.
The travel distance isnt a big issue as both sets of springs are linear in rate . You can use a fish scale (weight) to dodgie up a spring weight scale with some cord a bolt washer and a block of wood in a vice with a hole in it. Put cord though hole in wood slip spring over cord then washer finally bolt tie off to bolt .
Then on other end of cord attach fish scale and pull to compress spring , a mate with a rule to measure compression distance is handy. Do same with other spring then you have weight difference at same compression for both springs .
Had a look the longer springs are from a later model bus decided to use the standard springs from the 99

So I have fitted the cushion, reset the stack height and heading out Wednesday for a test run. Then off to Summerland drags at Casino Sunday for some fun
Results from the weekend
222 Bike Ian Smith
1st: 6.95
2nd: 6.97
3rd: 8.32
4th: 7.91 5th: 8.06 6th: 7.76 Fastest: 6.95
You can see the difference after the 2nd run once I changed the rear tyre the replacment had zero grip
Very respectable times mate.
The first run was enough to get in the final round but the tyre fitted after the 2nd run was no good so ended up doing 1/8 mile burn outs was still fun :). If it could get traction would have run 6.7 maybe a little less
Anything sub 7 is respectable. Well done.
The best I've seen here at Gunnedah was a ZX14, extended swing arm and air shifter, 6.4.
The best I could get out of the GSXR1000K5 was a 6.7 and I'm yet to get the busa under 7.2.
I am happy enough with the first 2 runs the first was soft away and limiter in 2nd and the second run was mainly on the back wheel surprised the fella on the BMW as I went past on 1 :). Was looking to run 6.7 on the weekend, may have sorted the chatter problem but it may have just been masked with the wheel spin as well will know more with new rubber going to run EC again soon to see what happens
what did you end up doing to the clutch ?
Last thing I did was swap out the back wheel and fit new crush drive rubbers I hadn't looked at it since I got the bike and it is the same wheel that pete had on his 99 originally so I dunno, the old fell out when I removed the wheel the the new I could hardly get the drive back in didn't chatter at all after that but as I said could have been masked by the wheel spin
Hey Ian. I ran a Test N Tune at Willowbank a couple of weeks ago on the ZXR. There was a guy racing a Busa who was having the same clutch chatter thingy you describe. One of the Old Skool racers advised him to launch at a lower rpm as the Busa has enough torque to pull out. First time he tried he droppped his time by 4/10's and did his PB.
Just a thought mate - might be worth a try.
Cheers
Will give it a go see what happens this weekend
06 R6 throttle tube installed will see what happens now.

Had a ball at Gunnadah the Busa ended up taking out first place so happy as. Also got a new 60ft and 1/8th PB so again happy as.also think I have a handle on the clutch issue it needs to stay wet after a hint from Morry the bike seems to be a heap better next trip to EC will tell
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.n...59854970_n.jpg Some pic's from the last couple of weekends. Dunno why but I am having problems with the forum editing posts, cant hit enter to get to the next line and posting more than 1 line at a time anyways.
Looks like fun. Been having the same editing problems too Yella.
