Heyo all,
Any ideas/ brainwaves on how to soften up carb boots so I can refit my carbs?
carbs have been off the bike for 1.5 years and now I'm refitting but the boots are fuckin hard as and i reckon it will be a bastard of a job to refit. The boots are in good condition otherwise.
Are there any greases or lubes that may work better or more importantly which ones to avoid?
cheers for now,
Karl
If you reckon they are in good condition then why not try a heat gun (or hair drier if you don't have one) and warm them slowly? Try it on just one and see how it goes.
Nice work with the bracket mate. Tidy result.
With a little force and a spray of silicone in the carbs popped like a finger in a bum

Schoolboy error: forgot the cables so out they came ........,but back in no probs.
good idea
Lynton was talking about the finger in the bum thing...... He's a bit weird like that.....
I like where your build is heading mate, it's starting to come together well.
woooo slow down son... dont want to make soome of us older boys look slow now do we lol....
and dan go fuck yourself you complained before lol
Hahahahaha
Well fitted the carbs ok and started checkin the cable routes When it came to the choke cable the slides were a little sticky and one thing led to another and ended up strippin the carbs All the o rings are fucked as they have been sitting dry for so long. first time stripping the carbs but all went well except for the fucked o rings and choke slides.http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/...ps318e8735.jpg
ordered a new kit from this crowd in Thailand $55 for a full kit..seems ok me thinx. Has anyone had any dealings with them?
Lets hope they get a good report as i have gone ahead and ordered.

Progress still being made::
carb o rings gaskets etc replaced ...time will tell if the thailand gasket kit is any good
petcock valve needed rebuilding as all seals farked...
fitted bandit throttle cables ...... better/cheeper option than custom made..choke cable inner is 10mm too short...d'oh
made fork spring compressor in work today and stripped the forks tonight ready for new seals and bushings ....trying to get the bushings ordered
dreading doing the electrics...lights ace well unit etc... being a sparky for the last 20years i am in no mood for soldering when i come home........it seems/looks simple but i just can't be fucked/motivated to do it...will do it eventually.
any ideas where to get fork bushings cheep here in QLD???
more pix soon (I am a slacker with the piccys)
Got the acewell unit fitted up....not took sure on the position.....will see when it is ridable .....so nearly time to attack the wiring

Progress is progress albeit slow
Can anyone recommend a good reasonably priced (I mean cheap ) spray painter here on the sunny coast? will travel to brissy if need be.
new muffler arrived in the post...:}

a wee bit smaller than stock
Didn't know that GSX-R's were triples! WTF
acewell 2053 info????
got started on wiring the ace well unit. As the gixer switches the negative for oil and Neutral idiot lights i am guessing i have to fit a relay to change to switching the positive so the idiot light operates correctly.
anyone done this before???? or is there another way to get round this???
cheers
Well I aint gone to ground. Still lurking in the shadows. Just had a bit of a sh1t time of it of late and aint getting any time on the bike. Family stuff.
Anyway just thought i would drop a line to say hope you all have a safe and happy christmas .
I hope to be back in the shed in the new year and back picking you brains for suggestions. I was really hoping to have the bike finished this year but i guess best plans and all that.
"Go n-éirí an bóthar leat "
Same to you mate. All the best.

That's nice, good one !
OK gents I know its been a while since you saw any progress on the build..Been a bit of a shocking year or two for getting any time on the spanners let alone posting any sh1t here....been under strict orders to pull me head in and spend some time with the family and at work .... sorry lads but ma lady won that one. Hopefully things are changing and on the up for us in the future.
anyhow somehow managed to get enough brownie points to get some time in the shed to and try to get the ole girl started and so a bit of choke later and the house stinking of fumes and the rumble of the ole girl fills the street,,,,,but as soon as i give it some throttle she stops short and I go limp.
so i am checkin in for some help and i am sure someone here can....

Any idea where hose no 6 or 21 get connected to?? atmosphere? do they need a filter?? me thinx I fucked up
Hopefully I can get a bit of a more steady move now on the build and get some more up to date pickys loaded soon
Here is my most recent picky of late:
http://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/...psnsemgtfe.jpg
Have since fitted the front guard (stock) and finally managed to get the brakes bled up and working had to redo all seals etc
managed to get the fuel leak fixed the carbs but now left with the problem as per previous post.
haven't had her running really long enough to say if i am happy with the note of the new pipe.
I still have a few things to sort with the ace well unit. taco sorted but speed sensor to get sorted and temp to get sorted.
and as for the paint still undecided...ideas on a $100 note and send to.........myself
Fuck i really need to get the escape pod finished this year before i throttle one of my kids.
Both my builds have stalled even more than usual lately due to sorting kids mx bikes......
That's what I'm tellling myself anyway.
I've found that even if you get the smallest thing done and ticked off the list it's still counts as forward progress.
Yeah still making some sort of progress albeit slow. Keep tellin myself I'll get there one day.
Ok so hose 6 and 21 just vent to air, thanx doug and Luke via fuckbook, still she and I go limp when I give her some throttle
I had the carbs apart and cleaned, new gaskets etc and I reckon there lies my problems. She starts and idles on choke albeit rough and as soon as I give her some throttle she Stutters to a halt but will then start no probs on choke again.
Stock air box has been removed and running bmc pod filters. I have a factory pro stage2 kit , I may have to think about rejecting to suit. Anyone any tips/experience to share on the matter. I don't know much on how the carbies work and so don't really know where to start with rejetting etc. all help appreciated on this matter.
Any ideas.???I prefer to sort myself if I can b4 paying someone to fix. 2 reasons I like to learn and I'm skint
Good to see you're still going on her mate, so many give up!
Yeah still going Si. Unfortunately I don't get much time to spend playing with her. Work/family shit keep getting in the way. So trying to set up the carbs in going to be fun with 5 mins here and there.
Was hoping someone here may have a starting point to go from with jet sizes etc so to make my life a little easier.
At my rate I could be a year or 2 trying to sort the carbs....but I'll get there .....eventually
I'll pull the bowls of my carbs and check jet sizes for ya. Mine is running on K&N pods, it's rich but it runs (when it's not otherwise broken). All going well I should get a chance to look at it after work tomorrow.
Cheers mate, appreciated . Any recommendations on where to go for o ring for the carbies.? Think I have the sizes right just need to find a supplier in oz. any info I found on other sites leads to American suppliers...Fuck yeah. And would prefer to spend my cash here in Aus.
I think I have around 150 mains in mine running twin K&N pods. Anything smaller than that would be too small I reckon. Best to go in rich anyway!

Cheers
Factorypro stage 3 kit fitted.
#147.5 jet , 3rd clip on needle and fuel screw 2.5 out and started the ole girl.
Eventually she coughed to life although a bit rough on the choke. And again as soon as she get some throttle she dies.
I did notice if I get her off the choke and give her some throttle over 2.5k she responds to the throttle but only if I keep the revs up. If I let the revs drop she dies.
So she won't idle properly she dies a death without the choke or below 2.5k.....would this be anything to do with the pilot jet? Or any other ideas how to resolve?
Cheers in advance guys
Well got her idling all good eventually....gunked up pilot jets . and it wasn't long ago that I checked them out. I suppose I should have checked em first.........D'oh.......
Anyhoo moving on goto spend some time now with the family for the last bit of the easter weekend and earn some brownie points so I can sort a small fuel leak and start tuning her up....next headache....... she don't sound too bad either with the Laser exhaust .
well at least I is learning how these carbie things work.....ish.....
Good stuff mate!
Coming along well.
Putting some focus on family is never a bad thing - and certainly much better than losing your family. And kids shoot up so fast and all of a sudden they're doing their own thing, don't miss the boat on that. My build is taking forever but I have no regrets :)
