the spacer on the drive side sits outside and hub and seal, so once the axle is removed its free to slide forward
when that is out the whole wheel and right side spacer can be moved to the left and out of the swinger slot.
it will be a bit fiddly but no worse than any other wheel.

verry small update, after messing around with bearing sizes for the last week i have ordered a R1 swingarm internal sleeve.
the R1 swinger has 3 bearings in the piviot all with different O.D's.... fucking nightmeare!!! so with the sleeve ill just run the original bearings and the sleeve will get everything to a common size!
-
I seem to remeber the middle bearing being a needle roller bearing on some of the R1 rear wheels, which can be a pain in the arse when trying to use different spindles. The GSXR K series rears are pretty easy to swap bearings out on, with a 6304 bearing to drop to a 20mm spindle.
-
The wheels are easy Im running the standard Ducati wheel bearings
With the ZX636 axle, it's thawing arm pivot that has been the pain I the ass!
But with the sleeve it will be a lot easier.
Thought I'd throw the back wheel on for a look.

Looks like I'll have plenty of clearance.

Ya gotta love those old shafty frames, so much room to fit modern stuff into them. I have a couple of the Z1000ST frames sat here waiting for me to get around to doing something with them. even the wide Triumph arm goes into the shafty frame without any drama, other than a couple of spacers, and one to centre the rear wheel.
-
Mate!!!! i wish i had a couple of them tucked away!!!
-
Just more wheel porn
-
are you going to brace the frame ???
just remember that th GSthou won the ama in 78/79
it had the steering head braced and frame supports aswell!!
and i know from when i had my z1000 A1 77 model the frame looks like an bicycle frame!!
-
yeah the frame will be getting some bracing once i get it rolling, ive heard these things have a lot of flex in them...
-
Nothing wrong with a bit of flex.To my mind I like a bit of flex. Not only does it give some "character" to your bike it's in the keeping of an oldskool muscle bike. It's particularly nice in long fast third and fourth gear sweepers, gives you a sense of er FAAAARK ;) Who wants absolute clinical and precise rigidity that these modern beam frames offer? If you want that buy a modern bike. Just my thoughts.
Apparently Rob Phillis' Katana isn't braced.
-
haha well that would save me some work.....
saw ur engine Stiffie..... JELOUS!!!! Rex does amazing work!
i also picked u a swingarm piviot out of a 2010 CBR1000 yesterday, it is the only one long enough and even with that one i need to mill 8mm off each side of the frame.
i also need to throw it on a lathe and take it from 25mm down to 22mm,only thing is its a hollow bolt so ill need to check the wall thickness will still be ok once done.
-
Yeah the old buggers got some pretty cool stuff at his place and some pretty cool people just seem to walk in there. I'm currently in Oakleigh with my Speed Triple frame and swing arm at a place called Arvex to get powder coated. Have you heard of them or if they're any good
-
yeah u never know what you will see when u walk into his shop.
nope havent used them just:
coburg powder coaters - total fuck bags!!!!!
raglan powder coaters - cheap as!!!! but can be a bit rough...
-
how about some help with seat/tail ideas????
i have decided i want to stay with the old skool muscle look, but at the same time i want
to make it look and be a single seater...
and deff not Cafe style!!!
-
