nice job tom there should be more people like you around mate
Brute force and ignorance mate, thats what makes it such a winner if youre doing it in a small shed on a budget with minimal tools.Quote:

Top work Azrael. I'm looking forward to seeing that V-twin creature finished one day.
Kris.

Over here all you gotta do is an engineers report then get of of the approved goverment signatories to sign off on it and your away. Ive seen some of the custom frames theyve signed off on and the welding was pretty fucken ordinary to say the least so im pretty confident it shouldnt be an issue.Quote:

Its pretty sad what you can and cant do with a bike considering the guidelines for hotrod builders are so basic you can practically put an engine in a bedframe and theyll rego it.[V]
Is it a major pain in the arse to buy a custom bike like this, then getting it re-rego'd on the east coast???
Did Large have a similar problem with his Spondon??
I have no idea about the licencing laws interstate mate. Im not sure what problems large encountered when trying to licence a spondon over there, i do know that frankie the original owner went to a hell of a lot of hassle and great cost to get it licenced in WA. Whether that be due to it being an imported frame or engineers report, weld testing or whatever im not sure.
What i have learnt is that the information on licencing custom motorcycles frames, ICV's (individually constructed vehicles) is vague, difficult to find and thin to non existent. I can only assume this is because the DOT dont like people riding bikes let alone constructing them and riding them.
From what ive read and downloaded it is easier to engineer something from scratch than it is to modify an existing frame, well at least that appears to be the case here in WA. Everyone i speak to has a different story.
I would be happy to post the pdf files from dot for everyone to dl but i dont know how? If anyone can help with that i have copies of all the National codes of practise and the ADR.
Sooo, I got a new welder. It's fucken awesome. Here is a picture of it so that you too can bask in its awesomeness..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psd6ea63d4.jpg While im on the subject of welders. Prior to me buying this awesome welder I was borrowing a mates welder to dial in how to weld aluminium with a single phase ac/dc tig which was also awesome (but not as awesome as mine) and about half the price. He bought it online, its Australian made via china Rossi welder and only cost him less than 900 delivered. I can highly recommend these units for anyone on a budget wanting a machine that can weld anything. so here's a picture..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psce508a3b.jpgThe handpiece isn't great but easily replaced with a quality one. It comes with a foot pedal, stick, tig and plasma cutting torch and is capable at all. I welded 14mm ally plate with it dialled on full tit.http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1212e36a.jpg
Some of you may be wondering, what has this stupid cunt been doing for the past few years, well its pretty simple really, i've been fixing everyone else's shit and trying to set myself up to build my 1100 frame. THis bike in particular keeps coming back to me so this time im fixing the fucker once and for all. It has quite a history this bike, once belonging to the illustrious Billy Potts it was originally built with an rgv tail by a company who shall remain nameless despite their foreseeable demise. Its shit, the whole thing was shit. They charged billy a fortune to build this thing that looked so slapped together it was barely roadworthy. The paint it bubbling, the wiring is fucking atrocious, the air filter had never been cleaned/replaced so it ran like shit and the sub frame was so bad I don't even have pictures its just fucking embarrassing so I cut the cunt off.http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...e/P9090611.jpg Now thanks to the afore mentioned welders I stuck some mounting tabs on post butchering it with a grinder..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psec17d572.jpg And then I stuck a modified r1 subby with a cbr600 tail on the fucker.http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2cc81c21.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2775108d.jpg
So, its getting a new airbox/plenum looking arrangement..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...pse5ad2eaa.jpg And the tank chopped and moved forward to lessen the visual impact of that shit awful gap..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps719aaf65.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps61dd50af.jpg
There's not a huge amount left to do on this so im hoping to get it finished in the coming weeks and start assembling my frame so that's the shed as it stands..http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psa19f7c30.jpg
I've been meaning to stick a couple of pics up of Abel's CBR929 and a few of the othe bikes ive done the fabrication on so in no particular here's some shit i've done. From this... grafting a 1.2mm thick cast r6 subby onto a 929 thick chopped subby, this tested all my welding skills.http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps16d570db.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psdabcaca5.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4c58111d.jpg To this http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6528826b.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps42acc6cf.jpghttp://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1e9c693a.jpg
Did all the ally work on this thing, fuel cell, radiator chop n mods etc, and yes, that's a gixxer 1000 motor in a dirt chucker.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps44bbec6f.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps69a34952.jpg I just love the geometry on these things, it appears to make no sense at all but somehow it does.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps189f022e.jpg
Turned this thing http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps95ecbfa3.jpg into this thing http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps75877dc9.jpg This thing... http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7122b350.jpg itno this thing.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psa68eb94e.jpg This thing.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psfd8a2c00.jpg Into this thing http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps37d3bd11.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...pse7167236.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...pscb4dd46e.jpg
Chopped ground and bent shit to turn this thing into.. well you'll have to wait.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psbb6563a5.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psefbe1109.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps382aee42.jpg
Other random shit i've made.. Curbside collection choppers.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8dff23a3.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psd7fccebd.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9ec211f9.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...psbad30e0e.jpg Dr bobber is coming along.. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5ace5665.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3f92f851.jpg
love yr work tom.....
hell yeah good stuff mate i thought you must have got sick of bikes but you were playing in the shadows
I've done a fuckload more than that too Rod, I just haven't organised the pics and I got tired and needed a beer break haha
hahaha fair enough
Best Feckin update on here in a long while, Nice work Tom!!
Busy little beaver.
929 looks great ,has given me some ideas for mine ,nice work
......... and where would we be without the good old milk crate!
Dr 250 on the cafe racer. That tank is an indian larry cut out job. The guy that built rhat trumpy has a great eye for old school shit, i only help him with fabrication, he gets the paint done elsewhere and the rest he does. Hes building an 80's hd chop st the moment ( the one with the sissybar) and its gonna look just as sick.
Ill go theough the thread and put the pics ip if i can still edit old posts?
Ah, ok, sides cut out, flipped side to side and put back in? Nice.
Lotta work for a 250single, but whatever floats your boat I guess!
evo with kick start , 4 speed ??
Yup, registered as a late 50's model too haha, no need for speedo, indicators etc, so much win..
cool if it were mine id replace ape's with swept back western bars , stretch the fat bob tank , replace the rear fender , replace wheels with DNA 120 thick spokes , and replace pipes with ground pounders !
i now hate you !!
So, i got a lathe mill combo and started making some shit i need for the 1100..

Much Coolness!
Ok so i have all the required components to build the rear section of the frame now thanks to burnsie and his cnc (threading the swingarm pivot point was beyond my skill set) and i can do the final welding on Monday.
The front frame section where it bolts on below the headers is all done but i forgot to take pics and im tattooing all day tomorrow so the next update will have some cooler shit to show.
Girl....
