This is the one I did. When you run the bike and rev when it's stationary all is good. When you get it out on the road it won't rev past about 8 grand. Feels like the slides aren't working.Quote:

Nah Jed I have not had a legal ride since I have owned it ;) & have not ridden it since the clean air mod
When I got it there was a big hesitation when you blipped the throttle from idle & it did not like starting & idled like an old tractor
Now it is totally different, It more than likely will not be 100% dialled in but im confident that it will not have any hesitation or spluttering
I have read about being able to go down to smaller main jets but then I have also read about people having to lift the needles (Shim) up & get more fuel in so I guess it would be different for every bike & different jetting, Compression, valve clearances etc are all going to be different on bikes this old so its just trial & error for each one?
I will keep it running rich for now, Probably better than possibly making it too lean?
Do you have stock coils Jed? I could not believe the difference the Dyna coils & leads made, I was going to shorten the new Dan Moto muffler I have fitted cause I thought it made it too quiet but the way it sounds now I may not have to, It is actually way louder now & just sounds way more crisp especially at idle

Got it all sorted last night. I had replaced all the pipes and was still not running clean. I thought i had set it back up the wrong way but turned out I had just fowled a plug. All good now though. I just wanted to do the float bowl mod to see what difference it made, but for some reason just wouldn't work for me. I should just leave that shit alone as the carbs I'm running haven't been tuned or balanced for about 5 years and are still spot on.
Just to let you know what specs I'm running for your comparison
As you might know I have put a ZX9 motor in and are using the 750 carbs. Carb set up is the same as what I was running on the 750 except I have shimmed up the needles by 1mm. Running 200 and 190 main jets and advanced the timing +5.
I am still running the stock coils. I might look at updating them one day. Where did you get your from.
I am running the same main jets but not on a ZX9 motor unfortunately, I dont have the ignition advanced but I will be getting a DYNA 2000 ignition later on some time & I will be able to advance it much better with different curves, Would be best to get it on the road first if I can hold back on doing more things to it? Seems to get out of hand with these projects
I got the coils & leads from one seller on ebay USA for about $166AU including combined postage via priority mail & received them pretty fast, I will PM the details if you like?
I just received my new FLY carbon sno bars & they were sent via first class mail on the 3rd, That is damn fast from the USA via first class mail, I find first class mail can be just as quick as prioity mail but it is a bit of a gamble with no proper tracking, Damn good price & service from bikers-planet.com, I paid about $20 for the postage
I cant wait to get them fitted now
Turns out the old ZX7 shock I found is actually a ZX750N / ZX7RR shock according to the 96-03 ZX7R / ZX7RR manual I have, The lower damping adjustment screw is different to the ZX7R setup, Hopefully the ZX7RR shock is even better than a ZX7R shock? Either way it is not bad for $42US ( $93AU Including postage to OZ), Its not an Ohlins but I wont be racing & it should be an improvementQuote:

For some reason there is no proper pics in the listing above but I found the RSV4 fender eliminator & said I wanted that one & it works perfect on a ZXR 750, I can slide the single seat tail on & off with the fender eliminator & LED blinkers still fitted & it looks pretty stock with it mounted, The number plate will be sitting in a reasonable spot that the law should not make a fuss about & the blinkers are mounted the required distance apart
I can get some pics with it fitted soon when I get round to it, Would be nice to bolt a number plate on it soon too

Thanks Kartras, I seem to be getting off track all the time but its slowly getting there, I just got hold of some ZX7 wheels for a good price (Just one of the tyres is worth what I paid for the wheels with tyres) so I might be fitting a later model ZX7 swingarm also if I can find one for a good price?

The ZX7 Shock is in, Looks much tidier, I have removed the battery mount plastic & trimmed about 33mm off the bottom, I have some 3mm aluminium sheet to fab a new mount for the battery which will now sit up higher to make room for the ZX7 shock reservoir
I got hold of a set of ZX7 wheels with Metzeler Sportec M1 tyres with plenty of tread left (front is not far off new) & a bonus set of ZX7 forks, The tyres even though they are secondhand would be worth what I paid all up
Running out of room in my shed so....I will probably get rid of the forks cheap if anyone is interested

I received my Lithium Ion battery today, I had to check it with the multimeter which confirmed it had 13 volts, It feels so light I was sure they just sent me a plastic shell that looked like a battery, There is power so something is in there? Finishing off the battery mount tomorrow hopefully if work does not get in the way?
Should have the battery & all the wiring back in place then
I mainly need a ZX7 swingarm at the moment to keep the project moving forward & still need to tidy up & sort out more wiring under the tank & up to the speedo & dash etc then just try & keep focused on getting it on the road
I keep looking at my stock headers sitting in the shed thinking how easy it would be to cut them up & make a turbo manifold out of them but lots of other stuff needs to be done first

Like you mentioned in the carb slide spring mod thread it is best not to have the slides drilled for a turbo so that was another factor that swayed me towards the Factory Pro carb kit
Later on when I get the Dyna 2000 ignition it should also work nicely with a turbo being able to dial it in with the right curve
Curious though What turbo do you run on the ZX7 & what other options are there?
I run stock ingintion curve and you can fill and redrill the hole in the slide as needed the standard needles work better than the after markets aswell.
I run a Garrett from a 2 litre Saab picked it up cheap of EBay. Probably could do with a slightly small exhaust side but it works a treat now so not complaining. Heaps of options around for turbo's some of the other's can give you some good advice on the details of turbo selection. I just used my gut and the fact it was cheap :)

Alloy factort kit fuel tank - the air pipe are only tacked on and do not go all the way through the tank.
It has a surge tank at the rear lower end - as far as i awre it has never been on a bike.
Perfect condition - no tap , no cap , no mounting brackets
Unfortunately it suits the earlier models, Looks to be around a 91 model tank Which will not fit on the L model mounts & wont match up with the L model tail?>

I don't wanna thread hijack, but... Turbo a 600? Why not save a ton of hassle and get a 900 or litre bike if you want more power. If 1000cc turns out to not be enough grunt then a turbo would make sense.Quote:

Got the battery mount & wiring etc back in & it all looks sweet now with about 20mm clearance between the ZX7 shock reservoir & the lower battery cradle, I will get some pics of it all together another day
The aluminium cradle could be riveted to the plastic but I went with some buttonhead stainless screws for now
A nice easy mod for anyone looking at fitting a ZX7 or ZX10 etc shock to a ZXR 750, It does the job & looks sweet & stops the ultralite battery from floating away

Yeah a small bike is zippy & can usually corner better much like a 125cc dirt bike getting the fastest lap times round a tight track cause they can be on the throttle longer & brake less, Same on the road I spose, If you want to corner & go fast them maybe turbo a 600, You cant beat cubes (Or CC's) out on the open road though, Its a bit of a juggling act really, power/weight cornering/top speed etc, I think the ZX10 is a good balance, They still corner fairly good & like a smaller bike but they have damn good top speed, I think I will go for a ZX10 next

You see it all the time on little rice burner cars where the Fast n The Furious type wanna be's go & drop a turbo on an old clapped out motor & think they will have 500HP, I need to get the rest of the crap sorted & get it running spot on first though & I would do an engine rebuild before I even thought of fitting a turbo but I am a fussy cunt

I finally got the headlight wired up, I know the Polisport MMX (& similar) dirtbike headlight I am currently using is not the best but I thought I would see what I can do with it
I fitted a CREE? LED headlight bulb to replace the standard 35W/35W BA20D bulb so it drops straight in with no mucking round modifying & has high & low beam just like the stock bulb, For the very little power it uses it seems damn bright, Will be interesting to see how it goes on the road, I have also got to wire in the parking bulb which is a BA9s style & I have also replaced it with a 4-LED super bright bulb which only uses .36W compared to the stock 4W bulb, The LED parker bulb will boost the Lo beam too
Both the bulbs that I have replaced looked like smoldering candles compared to these new LED's
