It is a Z 650 tail but not up swept. Personally I think that it would fit right in with the Oldskool look and it's manufacturer specific too. Just my thoughts though. I also don't like that 'kin horrible sticky uppy Germanesque look PUKE.

maybe a ZRX1200 could be a good compramise???
still has that muscle bike seat.... and is a little bit more modern.

Nah this what you want to put on it mate. Available on Evilbay

I'd go small, stumpy and square like a GS 750 tail piece to keep it in the era and still look tidy.

^^^ I concur.
i dont think the twin shock gpz unit wouldnt look to bad
that or a zephyr 550 unit or modern cb400 unit
Hmmmm I do like the GS tails....
But will it look too stumpy?
Dummy up a photo for yourself and see what you think.
The posty has just dropped in....... gave me a nice shiny 09 R1 shock and linkage:

and a 09 R1 rear caliper setup:

and some R1 switchblocks:

im a little bored at work, so i thought i would tidy up my photoshop effort a bit:

What about using a 550 Zephyr which are a bit neater than the ZRX11/12 and not as bulky, they're very similar to the ZRX400 tailpiece, in fact the seats are identical it is just the plastics which are slightly different or if you want a rounded Z900 looking style the 750 Zephyr.
A single seat with the Z1000J/Z1100R tail piece works well, the spondon ally framed Zeds that have been done recently use the same seat rig, look at the satin black one that is in the Zed section gallery.
On the MadCow I have the Unatec 650 Zedbutt which works well with the Z1R small tank, Unatec also do a Z900 style Zedbutt and seat pad.
yeah i guess the tail will be a bit of trial and error....
i deff dont wand the z650 tail, im just not a fan, and something about the Zepher tail dossent sit
with me. i think its coz they sit so low, but in saying that i like the Z900 tail which also sits low....
i do like the idea of a nice chunky tail on this build, as all of my other builds have been modern sports bikes
with tiny pointy tails (RC8 and similar).
i have found the ZRX tail and seat going cheap so ill grab it, throw it on and see how it goes and if its not rite
im sure someone will want it.
ok i think i have found all my marbles again.... and will stick with the GPZ1100 B1-B2 bodywork!

Perfect!

What about using the standard tail but shortening it up like this GSX
Spot on mate. Those early twin shock B1 and B2 GP zeds were the epitome of big bore muscle bikes. The right choice sir.Not quite as muscley as early Zook GSX'es you understand but close enough
you might be onto something there whale it could loose a few inches!
and simon it may not be as tough as an old GSX but the wheels will make up for it in coolness.......:p:p:p
loose a few ?? we here want more inchs?? well thats wat the wifes want !!
Haha.... If only it were as simple as taking them off the bike and then slapping them where they r needed!
Lose the pillion part of the seat and shunt the tailpiece forwards, if you look in the Zed specific gallery there's a satin black ally framed spondon replica Zed with Z1R tank, and a single seat with the J series tailpiece, K series radial front end, monoshocked etc etc. That look works well giving it the classic musclebike look but more squat.
I think i know the bike ur talking about... Off to find it now.
glad u staying with the gpz tail mate done right they just work
Yeah mate I don't know what I was thinking! All that other shit was way to modern!!!
I had a bit of a play with the linkage today, trying to figure out if it will work with YAMMYS new system where the dogbone bolts to the swinger not the frame:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...717_112627.jpg
I'm sure with some playing it will be fine.
And thought I'd throw the forks in place just to keep me inspired:
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...717_113506.jpg
When you look at the distance between the back wheel and the frame, u can see how much the wheel base will be lengthened, so the tail may not need a chop......
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...o/d42ede68.jpg
I like to do original stuff but what your building makes me want to copy ya! Fuckin ace lookin
Thanks Matt, I'm hoping this one will be something special.
Its going to look nuts Kiwi. I hope you can get it all sorted.
yeah it'l get sorted, i have heaps of Gaffa tape......
rite, so i was having a chat to Travis yesterday about my swingarm piviot, sent him through the size i would need and the frame boss size.
next thing i get a message "like this" fuken top bloke(thanks again mate)
all i need to do is weld a plate on the end that bolts to the ST frame where the old shaftie swingarm piviot pins use to bolt in.
http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...ano/piviot.jpg
So when is Travis gonna start his own thread bout turning spacers and axles we need??
I'll need some little bushes turned up soon...i never know who to ask....and shops dont want to do little bits and peices some of us on here need!!
Other than that....it's all lookin good so far!!

Might be a good challenge for the Forum. Get a pic of your bike in the kitchen - without getting a divorce :)

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/g...724_150856.jpg
$35 bucks thanks for coming!
The foam is sweet so it just needs to be re covered.
I'm obviously doing a Eddie paint job, so should I replace the red portion of the seat with green or keep it all black?
Give Kev,the seat guru, a call and see what he reckons with his multitude of different seat covering material. But whatever colour you decide I think it would look so much better if you got GSX sewn into it
