looking good mate
I dont mind the look of the single seat tail, I dont really care for trying to make it look like a 2000+ model with a small tail on the back, Maybe later on
With the tail being second hand it of course did not come with any fitting instructions (Not sure if they would anyway) & for some reason I had to lift the taillight up a bit to make it all line up which is a good thing really because it looks a bit better now, I will have to get some side on pics to compare
I had to trim off some of the rear subframe & the plastic guard under the tail so it is not sticking out, With all the bits n pieces I have removed or trimmed off it has made a difference
The rear suspension seems to have gone up a bit, Looking at the rear footpeg mount bolts & the top of the tyre it has a bit more gap now, Overall the power to weight ratio should be noticeable when I am finished, Now if I could drop 10-20Kgs myself it would be great

Well done mate. it's taking shape. when is rego and riding.
Not sure if it will be before Chrissy at this stage? Need to sort out the speedo & change the forks, Fab some mounts for the brake & clutch reservoirs, Nothing major but dollars are becoming tight at this time of year
Are you still interested in the forks, Lower clamp & a set of calipers?
[QUOTE=NINJAINOZ;373124] Fab some mounts for the brake & clutch reservoirs,
Mate. try and get a hold of some ZX9 reservoirs. It really cleans up the front.
I looked at the ZX9 master cylinders & almost bought a set but the thing I dont like about them is the fact that when they are fitted to bars that are sitting flat like mine are now the top of the master cylinder/cap is then angled down towards the forks which means you gotta lean the bike over a bit to top them up & I just would not like the look, If they did not have the angle I probably would have bought a set + I reckon they would have to be quite a bit heavier than the ZXR750 master cylinders?
I know it is nothing major & it will not affect how they work but I am fussy & it may annoy me, Im not sure of the amount of angle it hard to tell with just pics of the master cylinders alone
Does anyone have any pics of ZX9 master cylinders sitting on flat bars, Im curious to see how they look, Im looking at getting a different set of bars (FLY carbon sno bend) & they will allow me to angle the bars slightly down which might work well with the ZX9 master cylinders
I like the look of the BXP reservoirs that go straight into the master cylinder, I may go with a set of them to clean it up>

20 min reservoir mount bracket (Will do for now)
Some old scrap aluminium sheet looked about the right length? Cut a slither with the grinder, File clean & round edges, Drill some holes, Bend to shape, A quick polish & wulla
I got lucky with the measurements cause I did not even take any

Getting down to the last little bits n pieces
I have been looking round at some different type of mirrors, I was going to spend a bit more on a different set of mirrors but I came across the Koso GT mirrors & read a few reviews from dirtbike riders that would give them a good work out & some that have fitted them on the Kawasaki Versys etc & they have mostly said they were great & work just fine, Anyone tried them?
For $12 (Including postage) I thought I would give them a try, Works out at just under $20 for the mirrors & some mounts, Not bad at all

I was looking into the ignition system options & almost bought an advanced ignition rotor, For a bit more money I can get a DYNA programmable ignition which would work out much better in the long run, It will fit the ZXR 750 & it will also work on the ZX9 motor if I upgrade later on, I can also buy the DYNA coils & leads together as a package too
I have been curious if there was any options for performance coils? The bike seems to run fine but considering the bike is near 20 years old im sure the coils would be getting tired?

Is anyone using DYNA ignition stuff? Any good? Any troubles?
If you change the back half of your mastercylinder clamps
to ones from a bike designed to have bar mounted mirrors
It'll be similar price, neater and not look like an afterthought.
My Busa has GSX14 ones.
Most manufacturers don't make their masters they only
buy them in so many models interchange.
I looked at the clamps to go on the back of my master cylinders & found some but for $20 each & not knowing whether they would fit for sure?
Thought I would just go with the billet ones I found for $8 for the pair including postage, There is plenty enough room in between the switch housings & the master cylinders to fit the mirror mounts & the mirrors will have a little bit more adjustment not having to be on the same angle that the master cylinder is on, The mirrors I am getting are adjustable at the mount but some mirrors are not, I will have the mirror mounts out the front out of the way so they will look & work fine

i'm running dyna coils. i have had them for years and never any problem. i don't know if you'll get much more out of it though. if you advance much more than 5 degrees it'll start knocking and you can get a better spark by running different plugs. NGK CR9EK plugs are the the go for the old zxr. they're not cheap but they are good.
Thanks, I was also thinking about some better plugs too, What sort of money are you paying for the plugs?
Good to know the coils have been reliable
Yeah small world, The tail looks good on my bike, Let me know if you wanna give away anything else ;)
Im parting out my whole build, practically giving away parts atm.
Mate I 've got one of these new. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Mini-Fron...ht_3519wt_1141
I bought it and it won't suit my master cylinder. Shoot me a PM if ya interested.
I should have theTrailtech speedo in the next few days? It just left customs today
I will have a set of ZX7 forks to fit soon when they get here from the USA?
The mirror mounts turned up today, Very nice looking quality especially for under $8 including postage
I got them on ebay but they actually come from this company>
http://cnc-machined.com/index.php?ma...=index&cPath=7
They have Go-pro mounts etc, Swingarm spools/sliders, Fuel caps, Rego label holders etc etc
I just need the mirrors now to see what it will look like, Auspost is apparently doing deliveries on Saturdays now up until Christmas so if you are waiting for anything they may turn up on Saturday mornings too?
I received my new Trailtech Stealth speedo on Monday, I will fit it when I change the ZXR forks over to ZX7 forks hopefully sometime next week when they get here?
The tank & tail will be going in to a professional paint shop for a fresh coat next week, A bonus from my latest work venture
If all goes well I could put a bow on it & put it under the Chrissy tree
Quiet day today so I got a chance to get the speedo mount sorted, Drilled the holes for the Trailtech rubber mounting grommets & some holes for the wires & dash lights, Hope the ZX7 forks get here soon so I can get it all back together

looks good mate
I have not had a chance to get much done lately, My tank & tail were painted gloss black today & they turned out much better than I expected especially for the price I am paying (Feck all), I will pick them up tomorrow
Still waiting for my damn forks to turn up, Tracking is going slooooow!!!
I might just get them in time to get the bike back together by Chrissy or this year at least?
I got hold of a Harris exhaust hanger bracket, Needs a bit of a polish, Looking at the Harris site it looks like they dont make them for the ZXR 750 / ZX7 anymore?
http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...psb31f80d2.jpg
Coil set & leads on the way, I will get the Dyna crank trigger & 2000 ignition module kit next year, Should run much better anyway replacing the near 20 year old leads & coils

Finally got my forks after a month? OH well I expected the mail (from the USA) to slow down but not almost stop
I got time to get one side sanded back "shiny" (using 240, 400 then 800 paper) & ready to be hit on the polishing wheel

Nice wok mate,
Making steady progress, It may just inspire me.......:)
Thanks Kartras
On the 30th of this month I will have had the bike for 4 months so its all going faster than I expected it to
Between a lack of dollars due to less work & a lack of time due to too much work its getting there
I will hopefully get the other fork leg shiny today & get it rolling again
the bottom of the fork looks great, good work
Thanks Pete
I got the other fork done this arvo, It does not take long to get them shiny with sandpaper, I will get them polished later some time ;)
The front wheel is almost as shiny now too but considering you cant really see much of the wheels (especially at the front) + it is near impossible to maintain the shine behind the front discs I might have the wheels painted or powdercoated? black or green?
after doing my alloy for NFR this yr by hand aswell ,ya done good mate!!
now dig deep and get other side done buddy.
Other side is done & the forks are on, Fugg it, The wheels are going to be satin black, Should be a nice contrast between the polished aluminium, gloss black tank, tail & front guard & some Kawasaki lime green here & there
Finally got the bars I wanted on the way, The FLY tapered SX bend bars I have are OK, Just a little bit too straight (10 degree) & the gunmetal grey does not suit the bike so I will get rid of them or maybe keep them for a dirt bike
Sno X Mountain Bend (20 degree)

I am going to give an old ZX7 shock a try, I will have to modify the battery box mount setup and fab some kind of aluminium cradle to replace the stock YTX12-BS with the YTX9-BS (ZXR 750 M model) battery that is 25mm shorter so I can get some clearance for the shock reservoir
This is the ZX7 shock I found, Should work a bit better than the old shock in there now?>

Looking into different batteries I came across the much much lighter Lithium ion batteries at around 0.8kg compared to around 4kg for a stock (YTX9BS) battery
I have read a few threads on here about the A123 etc battery packs but would like to go with something with a warranty & hopefully proven to be reliable & wont turn into a fireball
Apparently they can be charged with a normal 12v car charger too which makes it easier not having to buy a special charger & supposedly more than 10 Years design life, All sounds good but....
WTF is the actual CCA on these? Lotsa different info>
140CCA
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LITX9-BS-...item4ac010e98c
I messaged this seller (below) & they confirmed this listing is for an LITX9-BS, Handy to know what you are actually getting when you buy something on Ebay
180CCA

Same seller (As above) & same battery but listed as 120CCA & dearer?>

280CCA 0.6kg now? This one lost weight?
http://www.allpurposebatteries.com.a...roducts_id=313
290CCA 1.1kg, This one has gained weight with the supposed extra 10 CCA's & price tag $286.29, WTF?
http://www.hollyhockbatteries.com.au/YTX9_BS.html
The cheapest seller I have found (Incl postage)>

I could not find a page for the LITX9BS battery on the Super Start site only the LTX9BS?
320CCA on this one?

Has anyone here used one of these batteries? Any troubles? What about SSB batteries in general? Surely one of these sellers has got the info correct but which one??? I might have to call SSB direct?
I like the Kawasaki green too>

Frontend looking much better with ZX7 forks, calipers & guard
http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...ps07e2aa1b.jpg
I received the DYNA coils & leads today & just fitted them this arvo, It starts much easier (It started pretty easy before but now its even better & I still dont have a choke cable fitted) & it picked the idle up nearly a few hundred RPM, I had to drop the idle back down, I had a feeling the near 20 year old coils & leads were buggered
I think the DYNA crank trigger & ignition module will make it run even better again
Got a few other goodies also, A new billet black fuel cap to put on the freshly painted tank & bought some stainless allen heads to fit it, A very nice looking billet master cylinder reservoir all the way from Osnabruck in Germany for just under $74 including postage
Damn nice quality item, Excellent fit & finish, Only takes about 5 minutes to fit, I could hardly see where the top cap screws on to the body when it is screwed together

I also got a rocker cover gasket & some o-ring seals to cure a bit of a weep of oil coming out around the front of the rocker cover, I can checkout the rocker gear, Valve clearances, Cams & timing chain tension etc while I am in there too, I will fit a manual timing chain tensioner if needed?
Do you currently have access to the vacuum piping under the airbox? If so can you take some pics or diagram of where all the piping goes and comes from. I can't find anything on the net.
I tried the float bowl vacuum mod on the weekend which didn't work for me and am trying to reinstall everything, but I think I have some hoses in the wrong places.
Cheers, Jed
I have also done the float bowl / clean air vent mod & it all went good, Where did you run the carb vent hose to? I ran mine out the right side & straight up into the airbox into the rubber grommet on the right so basically this tube is venting in between the filter & the carby's so it would have a bit of vacuum in this position, Block off any other left over holes in the airbox & plug the tubes coming from under the manifolds/intake after the mod & it should be good?
I cant find the diagram that I used that showed pics of a ZXR not a ZX7 but this one gives you the basic idea>
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/webzxr/.../ventbowl.html
Can you explain where you ran the pipes etc & why it did not work, I imagine it was not running right but what was it doing exactly?
the float bowl vacuum mod the pipe has to be in the top side of the airbox or it wont work
i cut a hole in the filter and ran it up from the bottom straight through the filter and it worked perfect
Yeah I have read about pressurising from the front of the airbox in some guides
If we were to fit a superbike style airbox with the carby's in the airbox the bowls would also be pressurised or?
It would only be pressurising at high speed anyway too
In this guide it mentions at the bottom of the Float Bowl Mod section - "Note: No matter how you connect it, connect the line where the clean air is, between the air filter and the carbs." ?
http://www.jonesisland.com/7r/motor/
I will try mine out both ways later on even though it is mentioned in a few guides to run it to the front of the airbox but the guide I found at the time said to run it into the conveniently placed grommet on the right side of the airbox just above the bowl vent hose
