water cooled on oil cooled would be a no no i believe. evrything will not line up by a small amount. the watercooled motor is 100mm narrower than the oil cooled.
worth checking out but i think you will be disappointed

Bummer....
Anyone else got any confirmation on this. 100mm is a large variation.
I always thought that they used essentially the same bottom end and just modified the cylinder block and head.
Maybe someone has an oil and water engine sitting in their shed and could check for me.
A good idea just gone sour??????
Cheers
the biggest difference is in the starter clutch arrangement. the water cooled has the starter up on top of the gearbox next to the alt so they didn't need the left side cover with the clutch etc in it.
i have a water cooled and oil cooled 1127 block under the house i will take some pics for you. i also have an 1100w head aswell so i will see how much difference there is.
Great Deano.
A quick check would be appreciated, just to be sure.
