Move the whole tail piece forward half an inch?
The gap between the seat and the tank isn't the problem, its the gap on the side that is.

I made infills and glass compounded them to the tank mate, like you would fit a body kit to a car. Just make sure you take the tank down to the bear metal and score it with a rough file so the glass gets a key. Check out my thread mate, its all on there. Looking good so far matey, crack on!
I'm sure I could stuff a few spongebob figurines in there...
Yeah cheers mate, I have been following your thread for a while. I think I will go a similar route to yourself but instead I will mould the infills out of fibreglass so I know it won't come free with vibrations.Quote:

So next question in that case is where in Sydney can I get a few small chunks of HD foam. Large you were playing with some recently, where did you pick it up from?
I've been a bit worried about that too, so I overlaid my infills with fiberglass tissue and resin then backed them off with fibers, so kinda used the plastic panels as a form. Its all a learning curve mate init.
get youre nuts removed and raise the seat again it looked the berrys!!! high arses rule, keep the front wheel in the air:D and it levels everything out just rightQuote:

Ok well I pulled her out and attached her plastics and tank etc so heres a rough idea of how she looks.
Out of interest, what are peoples thoughts on the tail height? I was thinking about lowering it slightly merely because I was getting over crushed nuts.
Anyway, time to get crackin, how long left to the fools?

OK, shit shit, 2 and a touch weeks to go.
I'll be painting this weekend but I still have rego, exhaust and running issues to contend with.
How long does your average exhasut shop take to fit up a custom mid pipe? More than a week?
Anyone have any recommendations for an exhaust joint in Sydney anywhere that could be up to the task?
I'll post up some pics tonight. Oh happy days.
Heya so hears some pics and updates. Pretty much a week left to get the bike ready.
Only thing remaining is paint and rego, should be simple enough...

Anyway I've been tackling the gap between the subframe and tank. I picked up some florist foam (savanah not oasis type) off ebay, only a few backs and started shaping it to size based on a carboard cutout i made earlier.

Tsis foam is pretty cool as you can just rub it back with your fingers and get a nice shape from it.

Anyway after shaping it and getting enough grey foam shit over everything. I proceeded to make a mould as per Ozkats intstructions. I used clingwrap and foam glue to cover the pieces which didn't turn out too great as it left wrinkles in the mould which I had to sand back out.

Ive since made up the pieces and will be glassing them to the tank tonight, pics to follow...
Next thing on the agenda was the cooler. The one I bought was one of the cheapies of ebay. I found my old curved one had so many bends in the fins that it was barely cooling my bike down at all...
So with the new cooler at hand I made up some mounts out of angled ali. I'm sick to death of polishing so they got a lick of satin black which suits the silver/black theme of the bike anyway...

One thing I had an issue with previously on this bike was fitting all the electrics under the tail, aswell as the canister for the rear shock. What I found was that there was a nice bit of room directly abover the rear shock in a cavity made by the subframe but didnt really have a bottom or a front to make it both useful and pretty.

THis space is perfect for giving me a little extra room in the tail and will allow me to bring the battery forward just a touch to even out the weighting a bit.
So off to bunnings for some ali tread plate and after making a carboard template proceeeded to slice up the plate with my jigsaw.

THe plate itself now bolts straight into the subframe so it doesn't move around.
I just need to find a way to waterproof it a tiny bit to protect the battery for when the rains are out.

I think it looks pretty good and suits the DIY - cheap as fuck approach I've been taking to the bike.
next thing was to fill the gap between the seat and the tank. I originally wanted to build out the tank and mould that into the side panels I have made up however I'm running out of time so I decided to extend out the seat. Since I had originally shortened it i had plenty of vinyl tucked under the seat. So i chopped up the old GSXR seat and make a frankenstien with my handy plastic welder which doubles as a soldering iron by day. A few slithers of extra seat comes in handy to fill the gaps. It may not be pretty but its not oging to be seen and its pretty bloody stong so happy days. Just need to visit clark rubber to fill the gap and make it look all smooth like.

Anyway these maybe cheap and nasty tactics but I'm running short of time so shit happens. I'll be posting up more photos over the weekend after I've laid down my paint. I'll be having a crack at some basic airbrushing so it will hopefully turn out ok.
THe bike has come alot further since the pic above, and is nowhere near as rustic but fingers crossed and all things going to plan you will be able to see it first hand at AFR. Otherwise you'll be viewing my mini clubman first hand lol.
I know its been 6 months but after a few issues at home ive been able to refocus on the bike. over the last week ive attached the infills to the tank and laid a coat of primer over it. Paint goes on tomorrow. Im aiming for a dark bluish grey with some black ghost flames over it.
My front fender shattered last week when it collected with my oil cooler. I had moved the cooler forward slightly to allow the fittings to sit in place properly, too far obviously. So given my colour scheme i dont thing a carbon fibre fender will look out of place. Booya.

I'm gaggin to see how it looks on the bike mate, more photos please!
Nice build, but I would laugh my head off if bob made it as a head light unit!
