I had this conversation with Supercharger before. He bought a Zed for $4k and by the end the only part of it he used was the front half of the frame and gearbox (or something similar). I was in Chicago in February expecting some serious cold, and they had the warmest February on record! Even then it was pretty cold, so I can imagine what Wisconsin was like.
