Has anyone built an 1100 engine setup using the RF900 head?
Is it worth the effort? What sort of expected performance?
I am looking for lots of power in a GSXR 1100 mechanical package.
Will probably fuel inject to go in my race car.

Always been curious about this one myself.
Maybe have a look on Oldskool Suzuki, shirley someone's done it somewhere.
Isn't the RF900 down draft? Won't fit in GSXR. Carbs will foul the tank. 1100 barrels on RF 900 motor would be better.
i dont think that would be to much drama kev cos its for his race car mate i.e. no tank to worry bout ;)
I don't understand what these 2 words mean... & neither should you Kev. :(Quote:

guy on OSS is doing this i think. in the watercooled section
Thanks Guys,
I will have a look on OSS and report back with what I find.
I specifically want the down draghted head setup to extract as much power as possible from the 1100.
Are there any other engines that are likely to bolt straight in (ie use the same engine mount arrangements) as the GSXR1100 lump? I need to stay below 1300cc. The Busa is an obvious one but is a bit more messing around to fit in my chassis. I would also like to retain the GSXR heritage.
Cheers
busa is gsxr heritage :D
RF9 and GSXR11 are the obvious ones,Quote:

Busa and B-King are better but hurt the wallet,
there are story's of Mk1 busa being tougher than
Mk11's and B-Kings when you look for big pony's.
edit: whoops, new Bus and BK are 1340! Sorry.
The GSX1100F "Power Screen" is harder to find but
may suit you better, re-tuned for more grunt and midrange
but still no slouch at 130+hp.

I am looking for clean easy modifications that will get me close to 190bhp.
I have heard that the Sidecar guys get this sort of grunt from similar set ups.
Cheers
I have a mate who has fucked with these combinations lots!!
Basically 750 WC and RF 900 bottom end are interchangeable in lots of areas Cylinder Heads, gearbox, Cams Etc
If you want my opinion just buy the engine combination you require and don't attempt unless you are very savvy with mixing and matching.
I spent 15+ years in the Automotive machining environment and this guy makes me look like an amateur in making these combinations work.
I rode one of his combinations a couple of months ago and in all honesty I wouldn't bother.
Yes it worked really well but it wasn't any better than something you could just buy straight out of the box.
You really want to do this for your own reasons rather than doing it just for the fuck of it.
My 2 cents worth!!
Maybe a simple addition of a big valve modified 750 dot head to my already reluiable 1196 GSXR oiler might be the most cost effective and simplest solution. A Busa engine or similar will need other mods to my machine (engine mounts, water rads, exhaust, carb/EFI, etc)
Anyone know of the location of a spare Dot head?
Good luck with that oneQuote:

turbo
Turbo!!! Great for power but under CAMS rules have to multiply engine size by 1.7 which puts me outside my class (1300cc).
Now here is a really mad idea. Has anyone tried the RF head on an oil cooled bottom end. Som fabrication of external water feed/return would be needed for the head. But this should be fairly easy.
Does anyone know if the gasket faces line up. Particularly around the cam chain area. I would be bolting the head to a bandit block.
cheers

Excuse my dumbness how do you verify you have a "Dot" head??
Dot head has a small round boss (about 1cm in diameter) cast on either end of the head near the gasket surface. The head is found on 88/89 GSXR750s and 88-97 GDS750Fs.
Oops.
I meant to type GSX750Fs
