Ricky and the boys from Motorcycle Performance & tyre centre in Nerang (www.mctyres.com.au) are having a Dyno Day on Saturday the 1st May at the shop.

It will be horsepower runs only and will cost a measly $25 for whoever wants to check out their bikes performance. There will be a sausage sizzle and drinks available, plus maybe even a few trade stands (to be confirmed) then the beers will probably flow from around 2pm.

Anyone that knows the boys will tell you this will make for a great day, so get it booked in (and I'll see you there!)

All contact details available from their website listed above.

Souds good, just hope I am not working.

So, a horsepower only run... what about torque??? since hp is calculated from torque and is the main thing I'm interested in... it gives me the big smile every time I crack the throttle in top gear...

For those interested... it also means that the hp and torque lines should cross at 5252 RPM
Horsepower = torque X rpm / 5252

I think I'll be able to get there, while I'll never win a hp shootout, I think I'll surprise a few with my torque and I also have a bet with a couple of mates with modern bikes that I have more torque than them at the rear wheel, I think I'll win....

Hopeing to get my old man to ride my other bike down if I have the day off, so I can compare my 1200 Bandit and my GSX1400. Should be interesting.

I need to get them both on the scales at work too.

hey guys, kickoff will be at 8.30am.dont forget we are now down the road towards the freeway on the other side of the road, you wont miss the sign.we are only doing horsepower runs on this day as to run the pickup for torque can vary on many bikes.it is a dynojet 250i dyno, the same as the one that was at the afr at casino.there will be a bbq and drinks available.call if you need anymore info.all bikes are welcome.:D

Thanks for popping in Ricky and answering my question, outright horsepower is not my real goal, I like the ride ability that torque gives you and I have a bet on the outcome, I suppose I could always get the calculator out though, so, I'm not too sure I'll make it.

what bike do you have?if no panels or the tank etc need removing we can do a torque readout quickly, just dont want to disapoint others who have a bike that requires alot of work to get to the ecu or coil or coil leads.to do hp and torque on all bikes would mean a lengthy delay for others waiting,so if it can be done quickly and you guys want it,it can be done.cheers.

hey ricky, pencil in my gsxr 1000 and the missus gladius for the runs..... keen to see what the gladius will do with my new exhaust im currently making... the new swingarm swap has forced me to make a new header/ link pipe, interested to see if i'll gain or loose power.

would it be gay if I brought my stock shit bike in for a crack before I did ANY mods to it!? might be suprised and its actually alot LESS than "factory claimed" lol. But would be mad to have that as a referemce, and see what changes when I do get stuck into it.

It would NOT be ghey to run your standard bike, it'll give you a starting point for an mods you do in the future. This way you know if any mods make you go backwards in power.

I do a before and after run on anything i do to mine.

Again, many thanks for your taking the time for us, as to my bike, it's an '82 Kat, real easy to get to stuff, I'm actually doing my tappets now and then I'll be balancing my carbies after, so, if all you need is to grab a plug lead, no dramas then, I'll do my best to get there, I'll call and book in later next week, I must get to work now.

Cheers and thanks.

I'm interested to see what mine gets after it's abysmal effort at Skip's place with the fucked carbies. With the new carbs, jet kit and pods all sorted now I'm hoping for a result!

awesome I always wanted to do that with my cars to see if [$$$] was indeed turning into [hp] and not just [obnoxious-noise]
she aint pretty but I'll be there.
Is there anything I'll need to do before hand, and more specifically to not make it explode? fuckin things been neglected for months but I just gave it a freshen up and refuse to put most of the plastic crap back on it anyway if things need to be attached?

Dyno's DON'T blow up bikes and cars up unless it has some major problem with the driveline.*
The operator can tell whats going on and if its not safe they normally shut it down mid run. I would as would 99% of people, i don't want a engine going nuclear between my legs.

If <s>its in good working order</s> your happy to ride it you'll be fine.;):D

*I seen a car at summernats go to pieces, 2000hp and the diff moved under full power which pulled the tailshaft out and smashed everything to bits.... NOT the Dyno's fault and it never is

336LJ
19-04-2010, 09:13 PM
I totally agree. Its not like anyone can blame the road for being too... robust... if their car farts and shits itself while its being driven hard. I might just try get a decent soft rear tire on this thing got some peice of shit cheap dunlop turd ring on there at the moment.
I take it nothing else really has to be wired up?

I probably missed it but what's gotta be hooked up for a torque reading?

ricky
28-04-2010, 10:31 PM
For a torque reading we need to access an rpm pick up.This sounds easy and on some bikes it is.BUT...sometimes using just an easy access point like a plug lead.(on a bike that does not have an intergrated coil/plug cap)we can not get a good enough connection without interferance,(with straight access to the coils we can overcome this issue, but in most cases the coils/ecu are not simply hanging out the side of the bike). This can cause incorrect torque readings and problems with a graph printout. On saturday we will look at each bike as we run them up,But with the response we have had we cant expect everybody to wait while we spend time getting an easy access point on SOME bikes and not be able to for others,I dont want to piss the guys off that want a torque reading but we are trying to get everyone sorted on the day.We can organise a full run...eg h/p torque and air fuel for another time.cheers.

I reckon thats only fair - and I'm glad to just get on the dyno for that price anyway!

why not just work the equation backwards? you know how much hp at a given rpm, so from that you can work out the torque.

Gix11
29-04-2010, 02:39 PM
Torque = Horsepower x 5252 / rpm (apparently?)

GammaBoy

The hassle is the ignition pickup so the dyno knows what revs the bike is doing - hence the requirement for easy access to the plug wires or the ecu...

Hey guys,Gammaboy is on the money...no rpm without a pickup connected. We open at 8.30 so kick off will be pretty much from then on,doesnt really matter when you show up,we will run till theres no mre bikes to run.we will have a bbq around 12ish and drinks are supplied,The boys next door at chiptorque are also having a dyno day for cars, not sure what they are running but i guess it might interest some of you guys.See ya there.:D

Well, I can't make it tomorrow, but I was able to get a run at MTM at Virginia, I have improved my output with the GSXR carbies on, but the Dynojet 136 kit is waaaay rich, my hp is now 103.9, up from 91.5, I also put on the stock exhaust.

Joe (Crazymofo) has ridden my kat, I'll post the charts for you Joe, so you have an idea what it was you rode, just sorry I can't get down there,

Can't get a clear pic - but managed 126.48hp. I didn't expect that! wicked. ['95 ZX9R B model]

I'll be hangin out for next time for sure. Was awesome, thanks Ricky and the guys, nice to meet you blokes and have a chat got some good advice, and all the ASF members who turned up.
Would have hung around longer but we had to bail pretty quick just after lunch.

i rocked on up late, but am very happy, 154.65rwhp. jamie said i def need to get onto a PCIII and a iggy module as im leaning out up top....

hearing my bike wind up was a treat, never heard it other then from the riders seat... the torque line was sweet too, nice and flat from 3400 rpm right thru till redline, peak torque was 73ft lbs.

what made me smile was they overlaid my run with an 08 blade with full akra system, k/n pcIII and iggnition module.... it recorded a 155rwhp too :D

so next up for me is the aformentioned PC and iggy module, then i'll be making that new airbox.... hopefully at that point funds can stretch to have some cams made to yosh specs and have the head skimmed....

big thanks to ricky and jared for the time taken, cheers

I eventually got my bike running on 4 cylinders, well, it did it by itself actually. Anyway, beer started at around 1pm and by 9 pm the AFR moped came out and it was stunt time in the car park (and Huddo nearly dying on it). Needless to say there was a lot of pissed blokes around and one guy threw up for 1.5 hours when he got home. (not me).

Trying to get Ricky to make this into a regular do as that was an awesome day!
