Shane down here in Vic has just fitted bandit 12 into his 750J with the help of Turbo & Deano, Deano tells me it was pretty easy.

The 1200 bandit motor will bolt straight in with no mods, use the 750 engine mounts. You may have trouble using the 750 airbox, but using pod filters will fix that. You will also have to use headers from a GSXR1100 or bandit12, as 750 ones will be too short along the front of the motor. You will need to use the clutch master cylinder and clutch line from a bandit 12 or GSXR1100. Use the standard 750 oilcooler but you may have to use the bandit12 oil lines, if there is a difference how they attach to the sump. Also use the bandit12 or GSXR1100 cdi, because the revlimit on the 750 cdi is too high, or you could do what i did and used the 750 cdi and an adjustable rev limiter from Dynatek. The fuel tap can be a problem as it may actually touch the top of the motor. Nothing a file wont fix, as you will only need to remove about 2mm for clearance, or simply space the back of the tank up at the rear mounting points by about 5mm. It is a really easy engine swap. Ive done it and it does fit really easy. Oh yeah do your valve clearances before you put the motor in the 750 frame, as its bloody hard to get the rocker cover off once the bandit12 engine is in the 750 frame.

Yes Chalky, same Shane. Don't know if he is getting along to Dubbo, maybe instead of just reading this forum Shane might reply himself.

Thanx OZ, very helpful tips.......now where's huddo wen u need him.....Hmmmmmm might have to buy back my old motor....Hahahaha

Just a note on the valve clearances;)you CAN do them with engine in frame[:0];)unbolt all the roka cover bolts as norm[8)]then on the inlet cam remove the far left & far right cam caps & the rear bolt on the cap next to the cam sproket(LHS)[8D]:Dcarbs off[8)]cover will roll backwards & off it comes[^]no need to take engine out[^]
ANY one with a 7/11 should have this written down in thier manuals[8D]

from doing the conversion on shanos bike last weekend this is what we found

the bandit motor will fit very easy but. all the engine mounts are the same as the 750. the lower rear engine mount that is cast into the 750 frame has a 10mm bolt hole. the bandit motor has a 12mm bolt hole through the engine cases. just drill out the frame with a 12mm pistol drill.

When using a J tank and 36mm carbs the fuel tap didn't hit the motor or the carbs but may do if using differnt carbs (38mm carbs on a 750 J has the fuel tap hitting the carbs caps - been there seen that).

The bandit sump is different to the 750 J sump and cannot be interchanged. you may however be able to interchange with 1100.

The bandit exhaust runs down the right side of the sump with an oil resvoir at the back left side. the 750 exhaust would fit height wise but the resvoir is the problem. you can use bandit headers to solve this or check compatibility with a 1100 sump.

both 7/11's i own have run a 750 exhaust on the 1100 motor and have cleared the sump with out problems but note they are watercooled not oil cooled. if using aftermarket headers you usally get more clearance between the headers and the sump therefore 750 headers may work on a bandit motor with a 1100 sump

hope this helps

gday all, turbo n deano helped me upgrade my j model 88 with that same mod last week, as the 1200 was deliversd bare we used the 750 ignition pick up and 36mm carbies, the 750 altenator with a 1200 gear on it, a 1100 starter motor, the 750 cdi worked but was changed to a 1100 one for the rev limit issues, used standard 1200 headers to fit the sump, and had no problems with fuel tap clearence also used the oil lines that were connected to the750.
Yeah it does bolt up but was a pain in the arse[:0]
Also helps th know two guys that work 4 beer n pizza and who will supply parts for free.Hope it helps
