So after writing off my last ducati I wanted another one but different.
Lying around for a couple of months with broken bits gave me time to hatch this cunning plan.
Buy one of them fugly Multistradas cos they're relatively cheap, strip away the gay and voila - the engine, gearbox and handling I wanted at a reasonably affordable price. Big fuel tank and comfy seat too unlike the hypermotard.
I saw this one on Bikesales for a good price.

Got my trusty mate Al to give it a test ride and the deal was done.
Over the last couple of weekends I've started to strip away the bits I hate and see what pops up.
That must be the most heavy duty subframe ever stuck on the back of a duke.

So back on with the rear plastics. I'll work out what to do there later.

More as bits arrive.

That looks great with the plastic off. Some rearsets, lower bars/instruments and a decent headlight and you're onto a winner. Any ideas what you'll do about the 'wings' on the tank? I actually like it with the exposed subby, gives it that external roll-cage feel of a stunt bike

It's got a blackening in store for it too mate.

I ordered some blanks to glass over to extend the the tank 'horns' like they used on this thing:

Going with an MT-03 light and underslung exhausts.

I think it looked great without the tail plastics. Very different, makes me want one.

Well that's an option. Two screws and it's off.

I need to paint the tank, frame and a couple of engine cases. Probably powdercoat those pillion peg brackets too.
Oh yeah the blanks for the ends of the tank need glassing on too.
Anyone have any people they can recommend in Sydney?

Waiting for parts to come from all over so nothing much happening.
Good thing my leg's still too fucked to ride or I'd be certifiable.
After much pondering about what to do with the bike's arse I think I'll put blinkers in the little round recesses arrowed in the pic, and chop away the stock plastic to cover that ledge behind the pillion seat.
Does anybody have any idea where I could get some round blinkers 30mm diameter approx? Flat mounted if possible but looks like I'll need to modify something. I googled for hours yesterday but came up with nothing.

Been a while now, ordering bits, going to physio etc
Finally got the tank, frame and bits back from Crow Customs and I have to say I'm pleased with the result and think the colours will look great. He did a nice job of grinding a few surplus brackets off the frame before painting it black too.

The progress so far. I fitted new tapered steering head bearings while the forks were out.

A bit more progress. I put the tank and headlight on today for the first time. Pretty happy so far.
Tidying up the electrics could take a while but starting to get there. I can't wait to hear what those fucken pipes sound like.

I love it mate, never really taken much notice of them(as they are ugly as fuck imo), but i might have to change my mind.
What do they ride like?

bly
18-07-2010, 08:22 PM
Yeah Nick, just google LSL Urban headlight.

Yoda, I haven't really ridden one yet. I thought about getting a Hypermotard but their tanks are like 13 litres or something and the seats are arsebusting apparently. I read owners reviews and cunts rave about them, but gawd they're fugly aren't they.
I think it'll be a bit more comfy for long distance rides than the sport1000 I just binned too.

Wish I'd seen that light before I bought the LSL. Never mind as Jools says ya gotta progress forwards, not back.
