Spoof website mocks new $150m Tourism Australia campaign There's nothing like Australia

TOURISM Australia has had its new $150 million advertising campaign "There's nothing like Australia'' spoofed by a "brandjacker'' using images of Lindy Chamberlain, the Cronulla riots and Steve Irwin.

But after investigating the website the tourism body has decided to take no action, despite the mock ads using TA's intellectual property.

The unknown creator has registered a website, There's Nothing Like Australia for the next year.

The Irwin spoof features an infamous photo of the eco-warrior dangling his baby son Bob in front of a crocodile and the tagline ``There's nothing like taking your son to work.''

The Chamberlain image shows her with her daughter Azaria and the line: ``There's nothing like a dingo taking your baby.''

And the Cronulla picture, showing a mob bashing a man, runs with the slogan: ``There's nothing like welcoming your mates.''

It is understood the mock website was registered in the US just minutes after Tourism Australia revealed the new tagline - and the first ads lampooning the campaign appeared just two hours after the launch.

They also lampoon Australia's wildlife and relationship with New Zealand.

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy told The Australian Online he was made aware of the mock ads this morning.

``We expected that people would spoof the ads and we are fairly relaxed about that,'' Mr McEvoy said. "Did we look at it? Absolutely. Are we taking legal action on it? No.''

TA is understood to have investigated who is behind the ads but been unable to find the creator.

Launching the campaign yesterday Tourism Minister Martin Ferguson admitted the new advertising had been designed to avoid the controversy created by the preceding ``So where the bloody hell are you?'' campaign, fronted by Lara Bingle.

It is understood TA had tried to avoid such a brandjacking by buying up domain names similar to the tagline, but failed to register the nothinglikeaustralia.net address.

Parts of the advertising industry have attacked the new campaign, which is calling on Australians to submit photos of their own favourite holiday spots, as bland and uninspired.
