I'm from Sydney and have come up with the idea of buying a Ducati 1100 Multistrada and pulling the horrendous fairing off it.
Hence I'm looking for ideas for parts etc.
I don't expect there are too many ducati owners on here, but that's cool.
Here's what I'm starting with:

And this is something like I want to end up:

Hi and welcome Bly,

There's a 'strada in the workshop behind mine that had a 916 fairing fitted (it actually looked surprisingly good) and a whole load of bling in gold.

The owner dropped it so it's being painted and having a few tweaks like a shorty exhaust added atm

Ok then stay tuned.
Lots o parts on order and a few areas of 'make it up as I go along'.
I'll post pics of the progress.
The thing's still stock so far apart from the ECU I pulled out to get reflashed so it'll work with a Power Commander.

Hi Large
After my last exercise in overblinging I think I'll try and keep things a little more tame.
Did you know bikes can fall over and break?

This thing will be a real Ducati streetfighter.

I've ordered a set of these nasty looking things to replace the boat anchors on it.
Slash cut style.

What you have pictured in the black should be simple to do mate. If you can get the exhaust on, the biggest mission will be to create a cover for the almighty gap that will left by the standard pipes, but with a bit of sculpting foam and some fibreglass you'll be sorted (although, judging by the red and white one, there's probably a German company that sells them off the shelf). Then it's just making up those simple tank side covers which looks like no more than a thin sheet of ali cut to shape, followed by an MT-03 headlight with some fork mounts. Job done.

There are topics on all the things mentioned above in the forum so you'll find them.

By the way, welcome aboard.

Not having underseat pipes will definitely leave a big empty space under the tail.
Whale suggested using it as storage space for wets and tyre repair kit and I might just do that if I can.
This bloke just moved the stock tail lights up to kind of cover the gaping hole.

G'day Bly. Look forward to seeing this, never really thought about multistradas for fightering, but I like the direction your heading in.

I might post up the progress of this thing.
Might be of interest to anyone else doing this.
What part of the forum do you stick progress pics an shit in?

Or will I just keep going here?

Some background might help you understand why the fuck I'm even doing this.
I've been a Duke tragic for a long time - I bought a 750GT new in the 70s when I was 18. They were cheaper than a Honda 750 in them days. Anyway I gave bikes away for a long time and only rode again about 4 yrs ago when I bought a Sport Classic which was kinda like my old bike only more power and all the design flaws fixed. Mostly. In fact this is the bike. With all the things fixed I didn't like about the stock bike.
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/bly_57/IMGP1687-1.jpg
In January while out for a relaxing Sunday ride with mates I wrote said bike off, in the process tearing the tyre off a 4WD coming the opposite way, breaking my right leg and hand good and proper, earning a chopper trip to Westmead as well.

Now the important decision. What bike to get next.?
I loved the motor, gearbox and frame in my old bike. That DS1000 engine was almost perfect for a road bike once you opened the intakes, put a decent zorst and a chip in it so that narrowed the search down.
I looked at Hypermotards but their 12 litre tank and cruel looking seat looked like it might wear thin on the longish rides I do. I'd read of some dudes who'd stripped Multistradas and they actually looked similar to the Hyper but with a 20 litre tank, a comfy seat and the ability to fit hard luggage. Sposed to handle well and the later ones had the same 1100 torque beast engine as the Hyper too.
And as I won't be walking let alone riding for a couple more months a project suddenly seemed a great idea.
The other great thing was the stock Multistradas are so fucken ugly, and with the new 1200s coming out, they are cheap. I picked up a pristine 07 1100 with 12 months rego and new tyres for $11.5k.

Anyway things will move slowly cos my hand and leg are still fairly fucked up but it's better than physio I reckon.

The obligitory Before Shot:

As far as I got today:
http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd105/bly_57/multi%20project%20pics/03042010135.jpg

Looking less homo already I reckon.
