A mate and I bought a 1984 Suzuki GSX250 when we were 18 or 19, and it's been sitting in the garage ever since. It's not an especially desirable or pretty bike, but I've never done a bike build before, so I've decided to do a ground up restoration/rebuild and hopefully learn a thing or two along the way.

My basic plan is to get down to the frame, re-paint it, then re-fit everything, servicing or replacing things as I go along (preferably the former; I'm not looking to spend much money on it). This is the bike I'm starting with:

And this is something Gix11 posted, and is pretty much what I want to end up with:

Suggestions and questions are welcome. I'll update the thread with pictures as I go along.

Did a bit more last night and got down to the frame. So now I've got a frame, a mill, and a lot to get on with. Looking at the frame now, I'm cursing myself for not having marked which lugs, etc. are excess to requirements so I can get rid of them. Guess I'll have to dummy fit everything as I go along and do it the other way 'round.

Still tossing up what to do with colours. I've played around in photoshop a bit and I'm pretty happy with how yellow looks (pictured below), but it all depends on availability of colours, cost, etc. The next stage is to service/replace everything as I've said, and to figure out what I want to paint. Once I've done that I'll get the lot sandblasted (no way I'm sanding all that by hand).
