Hey guys,

Ive thinking of removing a few decals off my ducktail fairing and would not have a clue how to do this without causing damage to paintwork?

Do you have a heat gun? You need to heat them up a bit, not too hot as you will damage the paint and possibly the plastic. Heat up a small area at a time and they should just peal off, take a little while so be patient. There will be some glue remaining after which will clean off with wax & grease remover, do not use thinners!

use Gibbos method first , if that fails , i have what is know as a caramel wheel......does a good job of removing decals and residue but only for the experienced user....!!!!

I used the wife's hair dryer for the main bits then eucalyptus oil for the gooey bits and finished it off with a light wipe over of acetone on a rag.

Using a caramel wheel on plastic is asking for trouble, like KB said, experienced users only or you'll melt the plastic.

This is going back a bit now. This came up in Sept '05. Try a search on some obvious ones guys as you never know if you are asking, someone else probably already has: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=588

Mate...simple solution for removing those disgusting mid 90's graffiti decals is just hack off the entire rear end and start again with something more modern. That thing looks like sumthin designed by a Fully sic disco Leb (Habib).Maybe Suzuki designed it that way to get all the West Side Homie G-Units to spray trains with GSX-R.

LMFAO... I agree with you there, My choice at this stage is a 99 R1 or 01-04 GSXR600 or 750 arse end. But... Unfortunately, I will have to wait till Tax time for the final transformation of arse end and exhaust.. Till then, the brick it is...

heat gun is the only way to go

i hadnt removed any decals before and got the heat gun out the other day on some panels i had

it enables you to aim the heat to a small area and the decals come straight off , no damage to the paint

the way i was doing it the only way i can see the paint being damaged would be if you held the gun in one spot no stop
