I've changed the ignition on my GSXR1100, removed the OEM and chucked on a simple on/off switch mounted on the side. The orig has 4 wires which are to my limited understanding;

1. Red - live battery power
2. Orange - ignition power to bike from red
3. Orange\red - runs to CDI
4. Black\white - Earth

1 & 2 are no brainers but what do I need to do with 3 & 4 the wiring diagram looks like they are joined when switch is on??

Got a test light or a muli meter? Check the original switch dude , would be my first move.

Yep, from the original I can see which wires have power etc, just trying to work out how to orange\red & black\white relate to each other - the O\R powers from the ignition unit - so is it meant to run to earth? Wondering if anyone else has chucked on a after market ignition?

The voltage from the O\R wire is 12v until it runs through the switch then it becomes 1.35v - so I'm thinking that I need to put a resistor between then O\R and B\W wire... this ring a bell with anyone?

here is a pic of the switch , i just need to remember
what was the issue with the brown wire(parkers) keeping
in mind this is a '91 750 gsx-r , should be the same,
just compare wire diagrams , will put up a '91 750
diagram if you need it.

Thanks for the pic mate. I've got the wiring diagram for the ignition, it shows the O\R wire connects to the B\W at the switch - but connectinng them directly doesn't work so I'm guessing that it must need a resistor to drop the 12v down to 1.35..

the orange and black wire on mine goes to my acewell power , the brown is the parkers ,
so basicly all my switch is doing is connecting the red to the grey and orange wires.

Mines a 95 must be a bit different from what I can see. I've got an Orange, Red, Orange\Red, B\W, Brown, and Grey.. Brown and Grey are lights etc, red power, orange power from switch and O\R & B\W from CDI.

Appreciate your help mate. :)

To those who are still curious.. I bought a 100ohm 5watt resistor and bridged the O\R & B\W wire at the CDI and presto we have ignition.

Hours of frustration for the sake of a 50c resistor, and so we learn. :D
