g'day mates! another question's burning out my brain: are speedo and tach signal pick-ups same for different bikes/brands (i mean ones of later days ;)), or how?

say, can i take a r6 dashboard and, after adapting to a different wiring, hook it up to cbr? or even more, can i make it work properly as a universal gadget, like acewell or koso?? do they have stand alone pickups or r controlled directly by ecu??? :(

looks like the speedos of later days bikes r on the same principle as the bloody acewell: a magnetic sensor. to bad though that the ones i like r costing more than the fucking rosewell [:0] hahah-ohoho [V] still the question is: if the tacho pickup is straight thru or from ecu, as well as the indicator display? no one nose [?]

My bikes have been too old to answer this question mate. I advanced from cable drive to magnetic sensor and that's about it.

i hooked up all my wiring to the Acewell withouth a problem. I guess if you have wiring diagrams for both bikes, and you wire up same function to same function, it should work...I'm just pissed that there is another wire for my speedo dangling on the front end...grrrrr if only i could hide the whole lot!

Run the speedo off the rear wheel dude. Much easier to hide.

thanks for trying mates! :) yup, the rear wheel's better... u can set up wheelie speed records then... gps speedo still better u can ride on any wheel or slider [:o)] i just hoped to get a quick answer was that possible to hook r6 or cbr600rr dashboard upto a carbed bike and make it work properly [8D] yeah, im gonna check out the wiring diagrams on the web

luv them fuckers more than any acewell esp r6's [8D]

The sensor from different models may be suitable but R1's & R6's have their pickup in the gearbox & others have them on Front sprocket & some on the wheels so the main problem I see is standard dashes don't have a way to calibrate them to suit the number of pulses per distance traveled.

thanks heaps Ben! d'u mean speed sensors? how about tacho signal and other gauges pickup? in analog gauges they r straight forward from sensors but in the case of ecu controlled system, fark nose, maybe they read codes [:0] from ecu

Yes the speed sensor, & all other signals too I guess. It's seems evey manufacturer does it a bit different. Oh & Yamaha have the worst wiring diagram layout of any.

ok, found a real diagram in pdf, its pretty huge and cut in halves to prevent from reading it [B)] need to print it first

I heard what you are saying and it just may be a case of experimenting Surt, if you have decent multimeter you can measure and compare resistences and outputs and make an educated guess.

I disagree with you guys about yamaha wiring diagrams. That diagram is cool it tells me, power wires and their colours and major earths, its a simple diagram explaing the ignition circuit. Red Battery +, Red/white ignition +, Orange fuel pump, Black Earth, and Blue/white is power from starter solenoid.

thanks heaps mate! i wish i could post the real yummie diagram but its pdf... heres 954's [:p] and btw, its truly more readable than yummie's!

so from wat i can see, the wires from sensors go to the dashboard and not to the ecu, need some experimenting... and i do have a multimeter and oscilloscope at my mate's :)

"We don't need no stinking controller!!!"

bwahahhaaaaaaaaa! just seen the very phrase from an ebay seller [^] totally agree, cept the price!
