Hey.
The other day I pulled up for fuel, filled the bike and then moved it to a car park to go in to pay. Came out and started the bike .. started to reverse back and it died. Pressed the starter and nothing. Got the bike started with jumpers and rode it home (about 30 mins) stopped it and turned it over (Just the tick of the solenoid, tried again and the motor turned really slowly .. that was it. Recharged the battery and same thing. It will recharge to full no probs but if I even try it it seems to kill the battery right away. It will roll start fine and jump no probs so I am wondering if it may be the battery or the starter motor. I have a spare, but not a spare battery and no real way to test it. Wondering too with all this wet stuff falling out the sky if I may have developed a short somewhere ??? Any ideas would be appreciated 8)

I had a GPz750 that had a short from the positive terminal to ground on the starter, didn't discover it til I started it one night and saw a bright flash under the bike.Bike shop wanted +$200 for a starter.....a 20 cent grommet from tricky dicks and some elbow grease fixed it.

I know this is going to sound weird. When I try to start it after recharging .. The bike dies when I press the starter but comes back on fine afterwards .. After a few tries there's a smell almost like rotten egg ?? I cant tell where its coming from, but I think the battery. Looks like jump and roll starts to work this week LOL.

Sounds like your battery has dropped a cell. Happened a while ago on my ZX9 - turn ignition on, idiot lights all OK, hit the starter......everything dead.....

Here's one for $49 delivered (as long as yours is an X9-BS)....

Check all your electrical connections in the starter circuit before you fit the new battery, dont want to kill the new battery. Sounds to me the battery was frying if you had a smell of rotten eggs, that would be the acid boiling and a short in the starter cicuit would do that. At a guess I would say there maybe a short after the load side of the solonoid, if indeed there is a short.
