Gday all
I am currently supercharging a z1000 2006 4 cylinder motorcycle of mine, i am up to the stage of designing the plenum chamber, as usual there are heaps of designs yet not much in the way of actuall theory and mathematics on how these people came up with them.
Who knows if all they did was wack a box together of aluminium sheeting and bolt it onto an engine.
So if anyone has an idea please let me know
for instance
1) is there a ratio of plenum volume to engine volume
2) what is the best sized inlet diameter
3) should the inlet be on the side? (in which case i am in trouble as i have an engine frame in the way) or is underneath the centre 2 outlets fine?
4) should the box be tapered or does a rectangular box do the job just as well

any advice or opinions would be much appreciated
cheers
Phillip

You will want 1:1 to 1.5:1 plenum to engine volume
I think the inlet should the same as the outlet from the charger ie: 2" out 2" in, then there is no pressure difference in the system.. I've seen cars that come out 2" from a blower into a intercooler then 4" to the TB and get no boost at all.. but it looks good bro..
If you can get the inlet between the center 2 carb's (bottom or top) that would be nice.. Altho lots a car plenums come from one end..
tapered plenums v's square v's round.... well i dont know ... mine will be square with the inlet in the center.
What do you want from it ... Really anything will work, there's a bloke on OSS with a PVC plenum and it works...
If you want ten tenths you need to do some flow analysis to work out the best fit for purpose..

this is a nice design http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18109
small electric water pump, (audi intercooler pump ) and a heat exchanger in front of the radiator (like a cut down rad) and you will be able to run much higher boost than a non intercooler bike

make your connecting tubes for the throttlebodies as ram tubes with flared tops and taking up about 30-50% plenum internal height
rest of the fitment is all about space, its fairly difficult to go too big on a bike
