We were watching some mad bastards doing something similar at Arapiles one arvo, but with nowhere near as much freefall before the rope took up.

I thought Dan Osman died doing a controlled free fall. I remember seeing the video of the original jump. He went back 6 weeks later or something to collect his gear and thought he would jump again, but the rope was rotten from sunlight and broke.

The jump was called something else when I read it. basically its like a bunjy jump with a rope instead of a rubber band.

It was not swinging though, long drop with a short stop. It relied on the elasticity of the rope to stretch enough not to brake your back or dislocate joints. So after 6 weeks or so of sunlight on the rope it became brittle and snapped instead of stretching. A great loss.
