The unique ASF Snake Auction continues...

That's right, our resident snake breeder Elapid (Kris) has yet again offered to donate a baby snake to auction to members/visitors on this forum with all proceeds being split evenly between Amanda Hansord (to help raise young Zavier Hansord the newly-born son of fallen member Bullfrog - Jeremy Hansord) and the save AFR fund.

Knowing zip about snakes I will post the email from Kris and hope he joins the topic soon to elaborate:

"These are the animals.

'Atherton Jungle' - UP FOR AUCTION:

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1265147786.jpg

'Male Atherton' FATHER - NOT FOR AUCTION: (Pictured for bloodline reference)

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1265154201.jpg

'Female Atherton' MOTHER - NOT FOR AUCTION: (Pictured for bloodline reference)

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1265146620.jpg

"Atherton Jungle" is the hatchling that is up for auction, "Male Atherton" is the father and "Female Atherton" is the mother. At about 12 to 18 months the hatchling should be colouring up yellow. It is not a "Black and Gold" Jungle - everyone that has Jungles has them and they don't interest me, I prefer light coloured jungles. This is also a placid line of animals, unlike black and gold jungle which are hell bent on killing people. These Athertons tollerate handling quiet well- unlike Black and Golds. This snake will grow to about 6 1/2 foot long.

Most of the hatchies are on hold for people. I sell these for $500 each.

Hope the Auction can help both causes.

Once the snake has eaten a couple of more times and shed its skin 2 more times it will be ready to go. It cannot be sent to Tasmania or Western Australia. I'll only send the snake once the AFR fund and Amanda have confirmed the cash is in the accounts. I'll supply a care sheet for the animal and freight by AAE is about $70-00, I'm broke as at the moment and cannot afford to cover the cost of freight this time."

...and that about covers it as far as I know.

If you have any questions please leave them below, or alternatively, if you'd like to start bidding do so below also. This auction will run until the end of March.

Ohhhhh so cute!!!! IF i have my ACT rep lic, I'd be looking at what i could sell around here for snake and setup for it. I'm sure selling my 1st born would not go down well with the better half, even tho she loves them as much as i do....

Thanks Si,
This is one of my Atherton Jungles. They are a member of the Carpet Python family. This type of Jungle grows to about the 6 1/2 to 7 foot mark. Once they get over a metre long they become quite placid and easy to handle. They are a pretty hardy snake to keep in captivity which is one reason they make a good first snake.

Housing for this species is very simple. A cage that has some horizontal branches, a water dish an hide box is all is the basic set-up. A heat cord or bulb kept at 30 degrees by a thermostat is all that the snake needs to keep its body at the required temperature.

Thi snake is currently eating hopper (small) mice. Buy the time it is ready to be sent to its new home it should be feeding on pinky or fuzzy rats.

I'll supply a care sheet for the snake and be availible to answer any questions after the winning bidder takes delivery of her.

The attached photo is the great uncle of the hatchling. Hopefully this is close to what the hatchling should look like in a few years.

Good to hear Mike. Pump the food into it and it'll settle down.

That last snake is the favourite in the collection. He's family.

Damn always wanted a snake, but need to invest in a decent setup first..

Set-ups can be as cheap or as expensive as you want them to be. A carcass made of malemime that is 90cm long x 50cm high x 60cm deep can be knocked together for about $60, then you need plastic glass track, 2 bits of glass for the front sliding doors a 25 watt bulb, short extention lead and a baton fitting. Decorate with a few branches, hide box and water dish. All up a basic terarrium like that would cost about $130 to $150 at most. If you live in a colder place a thermostat is a good idea to help maintain a constant temperature in the cage.

Avoid those glass cube hunks of shit that petshops will try and get you to buy, they offer the snakes no privacy and are way over priced. The also fluctuate temperature too much which isn't good for the snake. They are better suited to death adder food (geckos).

Cheers,

Kris.

Good stuff Chase.

One thing I haven't mentioned in this thread yet is that to get the snake you will also need a reptile keepers permit from the wildlife authourity in your state.Sorry for missing that.

Cheers,

Kris.

I'd love a snake she looks great, but living in a bus sort of limits my ability to provide the right enviroment.

Its for a good cause by the sounds of it so message me with some way of getting the cash to you and i'll provide
the money for transport to her new home if you like.

Come on fellas, only a few days left. ALL money raised is going to 2 very worthy causes- The Tad-Pole fund and Save The AFR.
The person that ends up with the little Atherton will recieve all the help they need from me to keep the snake, or answer any questions they have. She is a great feeder, so all that is required is for her to be kept at the correct temperatures, fresh water, a hide and some branches to climb and she'll be a low maintainance pet.

Cheers,

Kris.

Whats the high bid at atm ? $300 beat it ? If so $300 and I'll just find a place for her to stay when I'm traveling in the Bus Perhaps with my son at the Ex's house lol

JackTar

I do believe that the last bid was $200 so $300 beats it mate. Keep in mind red that you need to get yourself a license.

Shit Red, you're keen!
Be careful with buying snake cages from petshops. A lot try and get you to purchase those glass/plastic walled cages that are meant for lizards. A cage made of melamime top bottom sides and top with sliding front glass doors is the way to go.a bulb in a top corner run off a thermostat at 29 degrees and she'll be sweet.

Kris.

Elapid na is cool bloke in petshop wasn't employee was another herpetoculturist has 4 gave me the skinny on the prefered house, will have a thermal matt instead of a globe, insulated on the outside with a pelter effect cooler for the really hot days thermostat controlled Snake heaven lol. Apparently thermal matt gives a better (less) variation but costs a bit more.
