Howdy

I bought a VFR 800 SSSA ( ABS version ) to put on my new project based on a SC33 , 98-99 model. Prior to buying the SSSA , I was studying in here and was among others ; reading Damo's description how to do it ; Basicly , cutting off 7mm inside the frame on left side and 5mm off SSSa on right side ....Voila...
Well , eather the gap in Damo's '94 SC28 is wider , or his 800 SSSA is a different version than mine.
Gap in my frame is 261mm , and the SSSA is 282mm wide ...So i need to mill off 21mm on SSSA and in frame......

Pics of project and closeup of SSSA below....

Anyone done this before and have some experience to share ??

My thoughts are to shave off maximum on both sides of SSSA and then see how to much shave off inside frame...both sides.

What the fuck is that exhaust off a WRX? Lines would be shourter if they were straight :) Have you had a look ar CBRRT's sssa change over thread?

Excuse moi...What'sa WRX ? I'm glad U liked the exhaust :-) . With whiskey inboards lines can be pretty tough to get straight :-).

CBRRT's sssa change over thread ; that's were I found the info from damo's bike

That's a fair chunk to be taking off the swingarm hey? The one man who would know for sure is bound to read this soon, he'll let you know.

It's a fair chunk alright :D. I mailed with a German Fighter who had a SC33 with 800SSSA 4-5 months ago...He wrote then , that he shaved off a couple of cm's on the right side to make it fit (nothing off the frame....Well , I thought he was just answering BS , as I already been reading Damo's description.....
As U see it placed on the picture , the link-arm fits 100% , so I'll start with shaving off maximum on both sides of SSSA an take the rest inside the frame...that shoul be approx 3-4mm on each side inside the frame.....Unless sobebody comes up with a better solution pretty soon:D

I just had to shrink my 800 arm by 20 mm on the right side and 2mm on the left side. The left side was fine and if you have a look at exbens venom build i think he took more off than that. The right side was different. Took 19 mm off and it opened up the casting so we had to cut a key of metal and weld it back up then take tha last 1mm off. Then re bore the bearing 20mm further in. I thinh ben took 15mm off the right side of that arm and it didnt open up the casing.

I also had to take the lug off the right frame (12mm) and 3mm off the left frame lug too.

It is in now just had to space the sprocket 2.5mm out and the chain is in line.

The only issue im having now is to fit a car 17 x 7 wheel i need to ofset the whole swingarm across 15mm to the left which i cant do. So my only option is a ducati style single bolt rear wheel conwersion if i want to change the rear wheel. (working on this at the moment.)

Or if someone knows where i might get a car 17 x 6 wheel ?

If you need any more info let me know

I've got the 800 swingarm in a SC28 frame that Ben originally did for Damo and I reckon the arm you have is different again. Shame I didn't see this thread a few days ago when mine was in bits for more accurate measurements but as best as I can tell the width of the machined swingarm is approx 263mm give or take a bee's pube. Notice how your left hand mount is slightly angled out whereas mine is straight? That's the extra 20mm...

I'm also running a 17x7" car wheel with an offset of 40. I think its close to being lined up with a 5mm spacer behind the front sprocket but can't say for sure until I put it back together.

I'll tell you what rather than come on here and basically call me a liar, wouldn't it have been more polite to ask the question.

If you reread i think from memory(it was so long ago now) that you'll find i said "about" not exact measurements anyway.[:o)]

Is that first sentence necessary? Without it you would come across as much more normal....;)

Damo : Nobody been calling You a liar !! I found the measures in another topic when searching for experience with 800 SSSA'a in CBR frames... Most likely , it's a newer and different version of the SSSA than the one you had...
Robmac seems to have noticed the difference in them...Cheers :-)

I have on the project , already a 750 SSSA (se pics) with a 18" 240 tyre (9" rim ?) , but the wheel need to come 2cm over to the right to get aligned with the front wheel. If I can gain that with the 800SSSA I'm extremly happy [8D]. If not I have a couple of 7x17" car-rims with 200 & 210 tyres on that for sure will align well. If and how much I have to offset the front sprocket ; Time will tell :D

I apriciate all positive feedback , and will try to keep You guys updated in the progress and the resoults as they appear[8D]

Hi I read about your conversion with vfr 800 swingarm and I am considering the same with my 99 Blade. Was the conversion succesful or I must look for a 750 arm? Did you weld the spacer in the middle or you just snug it in?Your tread is very compleat but if you have more info or photos of the project will be great? Thank you in advance!!
