Ya like my new RACE STAND???
The powdercoater (well the sandblasting guy) fucked up a few of the threads on my frame - Thank Christ that the local engineering firm were kind enough to let me borrow a few of their taps so I could fix the threads. A BIG Thank YOU goes out to VALE Engineering in Coburg for their help...
Also a Thank you to Metro Motor Mechanics who were also kind enuf to loan me a 12mm and 14mm Allen hex socket to get the kuns out of the frame
All going smoothly so far, a couple of hiccups, but nothing major, so I'll finish off fitting all the bits that I took off and wait for the pipes and tins to come back. Next I'll be putting the wiring loom back in with a view to moving it all to the rear of the bike, under the duckie
(pops another pill)

Looking good mate. Had the same drama's with most of my threads after blasting/powdercoating, takes a while to clean that shit out.
Good luck at the dentist!!
wackyrider
19-01-2011, 06:48 AM
Yeah, its a common thing to get with the threads. And doesn't necassarily have to be from the blasting either. I blasted my frame myself and made sre to clean out with tons of air. Still get some threads which are a bit tight

I looked into it this when i had my frame powdercoated. The mechanic that does my rego's said as long as the words are there it wouldnt be an issue. Then again I had everything soda blasted, not sand blasted so even once powdercoated over it was still very readable... dnt kno if urs would be the same.

19-01-2011, 01:22 PM
nope - mines completely fucked. You can barely make out the frame number on it - had to take it off the frame it was that bad

Nice work on the viffer.
you might not want to ride around with no compliance plate on something with a VIN no as the coppers can seize it for "investigative purposes" (well here in SA they have) and if they cant read your frame no through the powdercoat out comes the acid to clean it off...........
how hard was the SSSA conversion??LOL!!!!!!!!!

19-01-2011, 06:28 PM
Don't panic about the comp plate Anton, it's only relivant to Vic roads, as long as it's been rego'd before in vic which obviously it has current reg then it's not an issue. By the way swinger looks great in black.

Mate she is look awesome. I remeber getting some parts sand blasted, and the threads I needed used I put in some old bolts that I didnt want anymore. Worked well and for the lager threaded areas I used 2 big washers and bolted them to the holes. It saved alot of hassle when come time to put the good stuff back.

Either fill the threaded holes with fibreglass loft insulation before blasting/coating or just get the appropriate sized taps and chase out the threads after the frame has been blasted/coated. It's always worth running a tap through the threads to clean them up before reassembly anyway. A trick to show the frame number better after powdercoting is to use a white or yellow wax crayon and rub it over the number like doing a brass rubbing, it will show the number up quite well, without having to resort to acid to remove the powdercoating. I usually carry a small piece of crayon in my tool kit on the bike for marking up punctures anyway, but it's handy in case the old bill want to have a closer look at your VIN or engine number, as my crankcases are also powdercoated.

...after a full day of wiring, tucking, taping, swearing, burning my fingers with the soldering iron, coffee, ciggies, more swearing, heat shrink (as opposed to cold shrinkage), naughty cats, melted plastic, more ciggies, more coffee's and PRAISE THE LORD FOR ZIP TIES, I finally finished the loom
still don't know what to put here as you can see it when the rear ducktail is on. I thought of that mesh stuff, but still not convinced its what I want it to look like. My other option is to move the coils and battery further up the duck tail, but that may take up room if I make a cut out for the underseat muffler
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z357/Antonio_Franzone/VFighters%20build%20update/highlight.jpg
this is where I had the wiring tucked away originally under the tank
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z357/Antonio_Franzone/VFighters%20build%20update/wiringa.jpg
…now it is all under the dash, to be hidden by the nose cone
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z357/Antonio_Franzone/VFighters%20build%20update/wiringd.jpg
made another dash plate to fill the original trumpy dash and to hold the Acewell
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z357/Antonio_Franzone/VFighters%20build%20update/dashplate.jpg
…only the indicator wiring, coils and fuse box take up space under the tank now, so more room for some bling LED lighting lol
http://i1185.photobucket.com/albums/z357/Antonio_Franzone/VFighters%20build%20update/wiringb.jpg
Managed to mount the indicators straight into the actual frame - A small 3mm hole through the thread and the wires tuck away under the tank, never to be seen

I made up some shims after the nutserts looked sheit - got a heap of alum tubing if you want some, i only used about 150mm form a meter length
Initially, the acewell did my head in wiring it up, but had the workshop manual diagram and matched that to the acewell unit - lots of leftover stuff like sidestand indicator, but nevermind. If you need some help with it let me know
LKC73 - yeah will be hitting them with some paint soon - need to lengthen them about 50mm so need to get hold of some hollow thread

tinkering today and I managed to get rid of another cable. The choke cable is now gone and replaced by an oldschool bar mechanism - works a treat and the handlebars are starting to look cleaner. prob in the doghouse lol - no foreign objects in the paint, cans of beans, bongs, etc, but more crows feet than the Adelaide football club. Wanted that nice triumph blazing orange, when he couldnt get that, I chose the Kwaka orange pearl, in the matt, but if Geoff Huegul gets to the Olympix next year, if he doesnt win Silver or gold, we can donate my bike for the Bronze!!! LMFAO (and cries)
i dont get it ?? are you happy with petes work or not ??

no of course not it was my fuck up,and the matt clear changed the colour totally from orange to bronze bc the light cannot enter the matt finish and bounce off the pearl so as stated its my fuck up ,plus every time i painted the clear on the colour it crazed,,so take into account that ant paid for the 1st lot off materials $250 ,then after painting it 6x times ,i paid a further $130 out of my own pocket ,,and i told ant i wasnt happy with the job ,so i dont want any money [xx(]so the responsibility's belongs to me
