View Full Version : help needed identifying my motor in my XT250

im rebuilding my motor in my 83 XT250 and need a workshop manual but the motor in my bike isnt the right motor, my motor is supposed to a 5 speed with a single cam and the motor i actually have is a 6 speed with twin cams is anyone able to tell me which workshop manual i actually need?

Sounds like you might have a 350 motor in it. Have a look on this link, it appears that the 250s were OHC and 5 speed, whereas the 350s are DOHC and 6 speed.

simple answer look at engine number first 3 digits are the identifiers, punch then into computer as yamaha _ _ _ you will have your answer. More than likely a late model 250. If you cant identify it put the engine prefix up here.

thanks, with my engine number 57R-XXXXXX it would appear i have the motor out of a 85 XT
