Ok, I'll get some photos but without actually seeing it in the flesh it doesn't look like there is a problem.
If I had a milling machine, could tig and had a few more tools I probably wuldn't be so worried.

Like I said to ya yesterday Kris. Don't fuckin give up on it. Someone here will solve the drama, you'll be riding a sweet fightered TRX and I'll be kicking myself in the mouth for selling it:D

Left and right plates are sitting in totally different positions and in the last photo the top holes are "scewif". Tomorrow I'll start grinding the plates out and start looking at other options to get the cbr tail mounted.
Thanks for all the encouragment to keep going fellas.

Hey Kris, don't stress too much mate. What gets fucked can generally be unfucked with some considered thinking. Being a steel frame should give you more options for a fix. As a few have said, some of the talented fabricators amongst us here will probably have some ideas of how to get around this. There will be a way out.
Might seem like a dum question but is your issue is that the plates are sitting off-centre, arnt in parralel or out of alignment? Or does the frame need some bracing between the plates for strucual integrety?
Elapid
28-04-2010, 08:27 PM
Hey V8er, the plates are not evenly welded in and the top holes are out of alignment. As far as strength goes there isn't a problem.
I think I'll cut the top of the plates off at the top of the trellis and go off the lower holes as the appear to be ok, then re weld the top bits where they shouldbe......I think.
Kris.

I just had a look at the cbr sub and it is slightly twisted. I wish I had noticed that before I started. I'll have another go at getting it straight again tomorrow and see what can be done. By the looks of it if I can get that straight it should be nearly spot on to the original frame.
Hillsy, I don't even own a welder :( Those holes may be ok once the sub is "untwisted".

It's always amazing how much better and simpler it looks to fix after a few days of leaving it all alone and doing something else that needs doing . Then stepping back into the shed and sorting it !

After a few day of not tampering with the TRX and carrying on like a drama queen, it is looking pretty straight now. I "found" a large sheet of ally at work to make an undertray with and all I need before I start on that is a couple of 12mm washers to space out the left side of the sub to get it in near perfect alignment. It is amazing what a 4 foot long piece of pipe, some washers and a hammer can do to fix a twisted sub.
Thanks again for the encouraging post blokes. When it is all done it is coming back to canberra with me while I'm at the inlaws so I can go visit a few mates.
Cheers,
Kris.

look at it this way mate.
Worst case is that the brackets are really badly out of alignment. Don't try and look for complicated solutions... Simple solution take one step back. Angle grinder, and just take them back off. You haven't done anything wrong to the fame....
Just make new brackets and re-weld them on...

I'll take some photos soon. The sub is on and straight!!!!....well about 4mm from being perfectly straight. Now I just need to get the undertray sorted and bolt all the electrical gizmos to it and get s battery tray made for it that has the battery sitting close to level, Some plastic welding and a colour change....and a front end swap...........and a headlight swap if I can afford what I want.

If there is one piece of advice I can give, it would be that perseverance pays off. I know there was many times that I wanted to give up on my build, but I have stuck to it and made some good progress. Sometimes you will need to walk away and have a break, to which I quite often do sometimes for months at a time. Everything can be fixed, it all depends how how much mucking around you want to do.

With a bit more time on the grinder and 4 10mm washers the arse end is now lined up spot on. Tomorrow I'll get the under tray cut out and bent and in place ready for the electrical stuff to be secured. Slowly but surely I'm getting there. Depending on if I get that done I might even shorten the pipes.

How you gonna mount it?? in the middle, off to one side following the body line?????

On my next long weekend I'll get the tank offand give it a coat of black and do the front end swap if I get the top clamp drilled for the risers by then. It looks sleek with no pipes on it.

Saw Shelled Turtles- the dumbest animal on Earth! The other tank I have has a pair of File Snakes in it, a non venomous fresh water version of a sea snake.
Had another change of plan with the exhaust. I put the StainTunes back on to take it to the exhaust shop and liked the look of them more than the carbon pipe. So tomorrow I'll set them up properly and that is the back end done.
