Hi and a Happy new year to all , got a spacer issue , the new wheel never had a spacer
between the bearings of the wheel and the carrier (bought as a '90 rear wheel), i used the
spacer off my '88 wheel and it was too long, so scottymac threw a '91 spacer at me and it
is the same size as the '88 (37mm between the bearing seats) was only measured with the
old wooden school ruler. as you can see from the pic it is sitting out a fair way
any sugestions , or has anyone seen the same problem ?
thank you:)
Carl

Best thing to do is try an online microfiche and check part numbers.

Does it still properly with out the spacer ?

I've seen mine do that with the correct spacer a little silicon spray and a nudge-ometer usually fixes it

if i leave the spacer out it sits in there quite nicely ,
i have made sure the bearings are seated properly but yeah ,
its like the spacer is just too long , seems to be a pattern
on the fiche

64733-27A00 88 jk

64733-48B00 88 L

64733-48B00 90 L

64733-27A00 90 jk

64733-48B00 91

so maybe i got the same one from another year , anyone got one
laying round to get some measurements off? , could just lathe this one down perhaps.

You have a mismatch of carrier to wheel. The carrier is off a 6 spoke early Gixxer wheel

can i still get away with using this carrier and mod the spacer or am i best looking for
the right carrier?
Cheers

the right one then. wen i check out the fiche site (ronayres)
it seems to look right for the year (with the 6 stud sprocket)
and the others look like my old 88 shape which didnt fit ,
but thats why im here asking those who have the hands on :D

hehe, i tryd that several times even though it only goes in one way ,
you know how it gets wen your frustrated. i am begining to think it is
the right carrier i just need the right spacer , wen i put the carrier
in with out the spacer it does bottom out onto the bearing , so i may
just cut it down to size. here is a picky of how far it protrudes past
the seat that rests on the outer ring of the wheel bearing..

guess you either need to get right one or machine that one to suit

awsome , only if you got it laying round , i had a couple of offers
from people to pull the rear off their bikes but im not in that much
of a rush to get it all done , but any measurements would be greatly
apreciated , least i will know where im at then :D
thankyou

Pay specific attention to the shape of the lobs on the carrier on your 90, compared to the one your have issues with, are they the same?

i only have the one carrier , i was just comparing it to my old 88 one
which was totaly different and wouldnt fit and pictures on the fiche
site , the carrier itself fits very snug , until the spacer is inserted
then it pushes the carrier out as shown in the first pic.

ahhh , wicked , thanks Rob , mine measures about 16mm up the top and 33mm at the lower measurement.
which puts the distance the carrier is sitting out about the same as the difference of the 27.4 to the 33
did you measure with verniers? , if so then i shall cut mine down to 31.5mm and all should be sweeeet:D

Set of dial calipers with a 0.05mm scale.....eyes are getting too old to read a verniers scale
