not claiming to be an expert in photography but I take heaps of bike photos for the shops advertising and the best angle to take a good bike photo from is the R/H/S or the high side when its on the side stand.

The bike just presents better.

Hi guys, just thought I would throw in an updated pic (taken from the R/H/S;))

Not much extra but I shortened the rear mudguard and managed to utilise stock tail light to create a much cleaner look (plus lets me get rid of my backyard cut farings!!

I dunno what it is but the look of the stock sub frames with stock seats and no bodywork is a cool as.

Time to lose the clip ons JZ.

The handlybars mate.

Go to the top of this page, click on search and look for "Nath's Blade Conversion" and you'll see what I mean.
You can either drill and fit risers to your top triple clamp or lash out and replace your top clamp all together.

Have a surf around http://www.austreetfighter.com.au/index.htm too
You can get replacement top triples for your bike I'm sure, but have a think about how far you want to go with that bike before you start investing real money.
It's pretty easy to spend more than it's worth, which is okay if you meant to do it.
But not so okay if it got away from you and you spend 10 grand on a three grand bike without knowing it.

ohh...they are the next thing on the shopping list actually, what about the reserviours and cabling do they all have to be changed? The cost of the bike doesnt worry me, I am doing it for the fun - fuck the money!

That's the spirit !!
I would try a dummy fit with original stuff. i bought longer gear and I reckon I coulda got away with leaving my standard shit on there.
It doesn;t cost you anything to bolt the shit onto you new bars and hold it in position to see if it will fit and won't get hung up on anything.
Of course, being a 20 year old bike (fuck me I feel old) it wouldn't hurt to fit new braided lines anyway.

Hey Jay, do you still take pillions for rides? If not, you know what should be coming off next don't you? Also, piss off that big back mudguard and reflector, get some smaller indicators and make a simple bracket to hold the plate and indicators on. You'll be surprised how much the back lifts and you'll have an amazing urge to really get into doing your bike then!

Gix, Im tryin to work out how to mount the exhaust if i get rid of the pillion pegs, I got some small indicators on order from aus streetfighters, and the reflector is covering the tail light, how could I get around that, do I just go without a tail light? What do you suggest making the bracket out of? Also I have started to polish the frame - shit that makes a difference!

Hey jayzee... i wouldn't go with out a taillight if i were you - no one likes to be rear ended

Go to bunnings and grab some honeycomb brackets (they look like fat L shapes with sqaure and round holes all through em) and aluminium bars and nuts and bolts... With a pair of tin snips and a drill I made my number plate/indicator assembly in about 2 hours. black satin paint hides alot...

21-12-2006, 09:27 PM
cheers for the info zx - I would still have the brakelight, but the number plate light is where i'm stuck, it sticks out like dogs nuts

21-12-2006, 09:29 PM
hey zx - just had a look at your bike, does that one unit combine brake light and tail light?

zx12argh
21-12-2006, 09:44 PM
Yupp, I got the unit from austreetfighters. its helaciously bright and the way i've got the number plate light adjusted it looks like i have neons :)
this is what i came up with for my brackets - bit over engineered but nothing vibrates and you cant really see.

and yes that is rubber all over everything ;)

Number plate light? Bin.
Chop the can down and weld a strap around the pipe, attached to the foot peg for now. That's how mine goes:

If you look closely you'll see it just below the footpeg.

Take 3 - Not the best photo but gives you an idea - Integrated the stock brake light into the back of seat [}:)], made new brackets for the number plate and indicators (had a pair of small ones on but they didn't flash - to hard basket - back to orginals) also made a new exhaust mount and removed pillion pegs.

What do ya thinx[?][?]

Gix11
23-12-2006, 10:57 AM
Fuckin' ell Jay! You don't mess about do you mate? That's coming on leaps and bounds. Top Job!

There's quite a lot of length in that can mate so make sure the join to the actual pipe is a good one as that new mounting point will cause it to vibrate a bit more than before being so far forward and the last thing we want is for your exhaust to come off on a ride. As I mentioned, with mine I compensated for it by cutting the can shorter to move the weight forward and that thing has been riding for nearly two years without problems including two FOOLS RUNS and a trip to Phillip Island and back.

23-12-2006, 11:13 AM
Hey Gix, I saw the "how to" on cutting down the can but I don't have access to those sort of tools, can you buy a cut down one?

Gix11
23-12-2006, 11:23 AM
Cheaper to go to an engineers shop near you and get them to do it for you mate. Remember it gets louder when you shorten it and can effect the way it runs in extreme cases.

jzgsxr
23-12-2006, 11:24 AM
yeah shit - its pretty loud already - the neighbours will love me, I just had a look at the how-to, I have got the angle grinder and drill - best gets me a pot rivet gun then!

I think you need to give us a better photo!! ;)

It's looking cleaner all the time mate. Keep the good progress up! Have you got a plan of what you want it to look like yet?

jzgsxr
23-12-2006, 11:38 AM
na I am just going with the flow - I spent 40hrs just on the arse end and it could of been done in 4hrs, but I do a bit , see something else, get inspired and change it! I want to keep the original lines though - be different and not put a new back on - then polish frame, change to flat bars, paint the tank (satin black maybe to start with), and then I will have to get the wheels done - think polished will suit - then lots of detailing. I am stoked at keeping all stock parts though

Dump the airbox and fit a dyna jet stage three kit with pod filters. It will look good without the airbox and you will have more performance I know i have fitted loads of stage three kits to all manner of bikes with better than good results and it is something you will need if you are going to cut down that exhaust.
The kits are supplied with enough jets for almost any configuration.

The slingshot wheels and forks including the triples fit straight in there.
Easy mod to do for that usd front end and fatter wheels looks super cool aswell with the slabby frame [8D]

Any plans for the seat unit yet [?]

Not fucking around are you ?

23-12-2006, 10:51 PM
alfie - i was looking at getting pods for it and was wondering whether the carbs had to be re-jetted, thats where it is outta my hands, not to handy with fiddly shit like that, I was going to run with the seat unit as is for a while till I get sick of it - I think it looks good with the standard subframe - cheers for the comments

rocket - yeah it will probably slow down till the new year now, gotta order my bars and stuff but all the shops are shut now til week1 jan, maybe polish the frame and see if i can sort out why my small indicators wont flash

Gix11
24-12-2006, 03:44 PM
Are they LED indicators mate?

jzgsxr
24-12-2006, 06:26 PM
nah they just normal globes - I saw them at the local bike shop they were only $30 for the pair -same connections and all - tried changing the wire around - the only thing is that I was running them both on the back, so I will try running them in parallel down the one side and see - may be a long shot though :(

jzgsxr
24-12-2006, 06:28 PM
hey gix - you got any suppliers to get pod filters and dyna jet carby kit from - i would rather source from someone reputable then get from a backyard guy over here
