Long story short. I bought gold valves and springs to suit for a set of CBR600RR forks. I didn't know the history of the bike and what maintenance had been carried out so I drained all oils (engine/forks) to see their condition. Sent the valves/springs/forks to a racetech trained suspension dude to fit everything.

Got the forks back a couple of weeks later, installed them and gave the front a bit of a push. Fuck me if the front end didn't rebound so fast it actually lifted off the ground [:0]. My first thought was these things have no oil in them.....surely not. Called him up and sure enough he had sent them back with no oil (said he thought it would save on shipping!). He emailed this morning and said to put 'x' ml in each fork leg, pump them up and down and "whack them on". The reason I sent them to him was that I didn't have the tools to strip the forks in the first place which leads to my question.

Can the dampers be bled correctly with the fork tops still installed? I was always under the impression they had to be off...and why is it so hard to find people with the smallest piece of common sense!!

If you know the exact amount of oil you need you should be able to undo the large bolt on top slide the outer fork leg down and then carefully add oil into fork leg. Done it this way on trail bikes before. I'm assuming it would be the same. I have been wrong before though.

Yeah getting the oil in isn't the problem it's the bleeding of the damper rod I'm concerned about. I'll contact a few different "specialists" and see what they say as it's not running hot with responses here.
Cheers pappas.
