these things are always on ebay.

has anybody used one?

would you expect better spark? or would it be cheaper and just as good to upgrade std coils to GSXR or Dyna?

Dunno about the quality etc, but am concerned that they stipulate 82' on only, as the ignition systems on an 81 Kat are the same as on an 82', and the ignitions on 81 GSX11's are the same as for 82', and also the 79' and 80' I think. All ignitions on (Aus model) GS1100G's are the same, from 79/80 onwards. Oh, and the ignitions for 1135cc EF's is different to the ignitions on the 1062cc models.

Thanks for the info Chalk,

I'm just dubious of the claims I spose.

the website says 4 different advance curves which you can switch to suit your bike... but that doesnt really factor in change in cams, compression, exhaust or carbs... but i spose a stock ignition wouldnt either.

also hopped onto the GS resources site for a search and nobody makes any claim about them over there.

plus it's made in NZ!

Cheers

Ed
I done a service on a gsx1100e that had one of these fitted it was working spot on and it looked like it had been on there a while dust and road grime had settled on it. The bike is used by it's owner all year in all weathers hear in the uk except when the roads are frozen.

So I suppose they are good and the quality of the parts must be up there aswell or the climate hear would kill it off damn quick.

There ya go Ed, sounds like the business after all.

I might give them a call and find out what the story is with 79'-81' models and grab one for the garage shelf. I want another 79 GSX11 (with 19 ltr tank) one day. Best bike I ever owned, put 300,000+ k's on one, thrashed it for every k (sub 8 hrs up the coast road Sydney to Brisbane one arvo back in the 80's). Only ever had to replace one cam chain. And it was still running 3 years after I sold it.

The tops an 84' on EFE, Damned fun machine.

The 2nd one was produced after the first 6 months. the bigger tank was introduced for the Castrol 6 hr. The first ones had a shape more along the lines of the GS1000S tank. One of the Canadians posted a pic just recently of one with the smaller tank on it. I queried whether it was, but he didn't reply. Has nicer, more traditional, lines than the one above, not quite such a 'hump' look to it. But I woouldn't turn down a good one of them either.

I got hit one time out on a country road by a campervan one night(fuck I was bent), and the subframe took most of the impact, bent it right up with such a shunt that I never found the Gearsack that was on it, jus saw this black shadow disappear into the distance. Took a big chunk out of the tyre too. Not to mention fuggin waking me up real fuggin fast.
Replacement frame and bits and I was away for another 18 months.
