Anyone who know's me will tell you I like Bandit 12's.
(Just ask Huddo, Harry, or anyone I've bored on the subject)
Had a brand new Naked 96 model in the UK, Loved it,
Pipe/NOS/Renthals etc. Had Busa's and B-King since but always
liked the original B12. Never realy attracted to the later models.
Had more fun on my old one than any other bike i've owned.

So I just bought this........

http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/3072/b121v.jpg

http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/5200/b122.jpg

99 model. Bit rough but not butchered. Several tatty panels,
small rip in seat, f#ck'd front tyre, new plug's, new battery,
Yoshi can with no ding's in it. No plates on it, bloke was going
to hand them but gave to me instead. Just had a spin around the
block, seem's fine.

$2852.

Not sure what to do with it ?

Got 3 naked Suzuki's rego'd, might "fighter" it and not be as
restrained as on the others that are mile munchers.

Might use it for the drag's, always liked the look of Brock's
faired "first streetbike in the 7's"

Might rego it and just abuse it.

Either way, got 3 weeks off for Xmas and a shed to put it in.

Yeah, but im not really into flash looking show stuff.
I know the BLAND-it's Renthal's and twin lights has been done to death,
but it still makes a great cheap bike to arse about on.

Im on another forum that Brock Davidson post's on.
Alway had a thing for his faired Mk1...

I think you should re-create the love affair with the on you had in the UK mate. Build it how you know you loved it.

Got to disagree with you there Russ, that's like saying if you fighter a gixer it's just another 7/11. I'm bias but there's no such thing as just another Bandit. The ones on this forum are all different and all awesom as only Bandits can be. (In my humble opinion of course).

That's NICE.

Having run 10.3 on Busa and BK my goal (one day) is to go quicker,
Not sure I could afford to go that route. Maybe a budget build and
a bottle of happy gas would be a cheaper option ? Im certainly no
great drag racer but would be happy to run a 9. Probabley be more
economical to lower the BK and practice though.
That is a nice bike, worth a thought.

Just grabbed an old mag off the pile to read at smoko today,
It opened up at Rod's "Preditor". Small world.

Good pic's Harry. See, i told you i'd have another...;)

Still giving this one some thought. At the momment im thinking put
on a front tyre / couple of bulbs / brake light switch etc and get
a safety cert / rego and see what its like before I decide.

No interest in flash paint or Single sided arms, but having waaaay
more power than i need always entertains me.

Dont have a huge budget to spend on this one, but thats a good thing,
the bike was cheap"ish" and im not worried about crashing or cutting up
a $20,000 bike i've worked my arse off to buy.

Might just sit back and see what bits turn up at the right price.

Tony.J.

(option 427-B was to clean it up, service it, and use it as it is,
and spend my time/money on the Busa, but I went off that idea,
there's just something about cheap nasty Bandits that makes me grin!)

Hey Tony, found these in the cupboard.. sitting there doing nothing, cant for the life of me find any of the bolts, i mean any, there all gone, but there prob all bunnings 5 bucks worth and it'l all bolt back together.. Original stock 97 bandit headlight fittings, pop top triple off and on they go (you prob knew that) a little carbon sticky stuff, you could peal that off and paint if you wanted.. this headlight is aftermarket though, i think same dimensions as stock bout 7 inches ish, think i paid bout 80 bucks way back when.. you want me to throw em in a box with some fun wrap.. i mean bubble wrap and send em up to you.. you can have em there just gathering dust.. let us know cheers..

BRILLIANT ! just what I wanted to find.:D
I think the standard light is a little flatter at the back, but if it
doesnt stick out too far i'd be a very happy man. The brackets are a
great find, always prefered them to the fork clam type's.[8D]

Cheer's again. Came home to a parcel today.
Fork brakets are 100% what I wanted, alway liked them hidden instead of the
wrap around fork aftermarket, very happy. Still playing with idea's with the
light and side plates to maybe reduce the gap between light and clocks.

Off to Ozkats in the morning to pick up the front end,
just need a couple of bulbs/brake light switch etc and i'll pull the
plastic off when I get back from Xmas and tidy it up for rego.

Picked it up Yesterday. Just as Shayne discribed it. Looks fine.

Going to use it to get the B12 roadworthy and give it a shake-down,
then it'll probabley go on one of the others. Need a temp front end
to turn the Bus frame into a roller.

Need to re-read your thread and a few others about putting USD's into

no prob's tony, the only differance with the busa front end was the length of the stem, head bearing's are the same but run under a different part number...you may want to check the length of the leg's your putting on compared to stock....my bandit is sitting fairly low with the busa front and rear on it.......

Hey Tony, heres the 'how to' that Si made with my bandit usd conversion... i think they are 45mm shorter than stock b12 so steering be a little sharper but i love em.. love the radial brakes as well.. Hope this helps a little in the decision making.

Cheer's Guy's.

Yeah, fork length is important to me. I dont mind a little less to
quicken up the steering but cant afford to lose ground clearance or
make it to unstable. I want to be able to chase the sportsbikes as normal.

Busa front end is an option. If need be I could go stepped top yolk
to regain some height. Busa brakes are pretty average at best, never
a fan of the 6-pots. Braided lines, good fluid and decent pad's just
about make them OK. Still nothing like BK radials.

Just out of interest, I just ran out to the shed.
Centre of Spindle to top of fork tube/top of top yolk.....
(rough quick measure)
BANDIT....750mm
HAYABUSA..705mm
B-KING....700mm

Gitzy
20-12-2009, 03:26 PM
Heres some lengths for earlier Gixer forks Tony, and some of my forks.. the ones on my Bandit are 04/05 600/750 there 695mm from Centre of Spindle to top of fork tube/top of top yolk.....
the others are,
my stock bandit forks 800mm obviously under no load,
there next to K6 Gixer Thou forks which are 735mm with no load..
My Measurements are full length of the fork top to bottom.

Cheer's. Great info. Very usefull.

Back's up some of what I was just sent...
get a 93?-94? GSXR 1100 front end (kayaba forks). These are the longest gsxr forks out there, allowing the most adjustability. The 750 Showa forks work too, but are 15(?)mm shorter. If I did it over again I woulda held out for a 1100 front end, more ride height adjustability.

EDIT: should have said, all mine were meaasured sat on their side stands.

Tony Nitrous
20-12-2009, 03:48 PM
Looks like the best way to get decent radial brakes and stable handling
and useable ground clearance is a late model front end and a stepped top yolk.
Could always copy yours (Gitzy) and do the top yolk later if i wasnt happy.

So no flash paint or single sided arm's.

Love Nitrous, riden several but never owned a Turbo bike,
(but always loved the crude nasty draw through Mr Turbo kits)
wouldn't mind a decent rear shock and a better front end,
Probabley depend on what turn's up at the right price.

Lol no worries.. i'll get em to you tomozzo..

I'm led to believe an 2007 Gixer 1000 rear shock fits the bandit with a little battery box trim and 2mm washers in dogbones, and doesnt foul anything.. lotsa adjustment there, between 90 - 200 delivered of Us Ebay...

Food for thought there..

Nice signature too mate. very zoooookish..

Back to B12's.......

Just had this posted for my on another forum....

Right quick version, any slingshot usd forks 750/1100 with relavent yokes, press stem out press bandit stem in, adjust steering stops, job done...... wheel calipers spindle bearings speedo drive all fit, just space calipers out 2mm,,,,,, simples... 1100 same length 750 25mm shorter, used 750's 3 times no problems with shorter fork length,

I LOVE that bandit, that bike is the whole reason I maybe want to keep standard seat unit on my bandit.. just goes to show you dont have to massively modify them to make them look the goods.. like how he managed to put radial calipers on them forks too looks great.

Cheer's.
10 year's old and still had centre stand, safety stickers on tank,
stock rear guard, mirrors, indicators etc. Dont think it's had much
abuse, just neglect. Rust on forks, lacquer peeling off alloy, rusty
bolts, bald tyre. It's not so pretty close up, but im getting there.
Was cheap enough for a project. Just need to put some cash back in
the bank and see what I can find for it.

Not done much.....Renthals on, new grips, new mirror's
(yeah, ugly i know! but I need my licence and like to have useable mirrors)
Must remember to get some black bar end's to fit alloy bar's.
Slowly starting to feel like it's mine.

Due to a few changes in my life, im not sure when im going to have fund's to do
much more, so im killing the hours polishing up some of the alloy untill I find out.

sorry to hear about your bad time ... what you need is to get an anglegrinder and chop that massive exhaust in half - STUBBIES = a sound that reaches deep inside and plucks the hoon-monster inside. You know it makes sense ;)

From organizing your birthday to being single in a month or so is a fcukin quick and huge turn around Tony........unless it was the batter before the fryer????............never mind dude, there is always that great male invention called "a brothel" which does have alot of bonus's,you can choose any type of asss, titts, color, position to mention a few. They have to service you and not the other way round ,you dont have to say I love you,no valentines day crap,no more "i have a headache", no Pms, no mid-life fuckin crisis and the best part of it all is that as soon as you pay for your transaction you dont even have to say goodbye, its a winner all round.:D

Struggled through this year and managed not to sell the Bandit.
It has had very little use and nothing spent on it in months.

Dragged it out of the shed this morning....

No radial brakes, no alloy frame, no automatic choke/cold start,
no adjustable clutch lever, no upside-down forks, no digital clocks,
no gear indicator.
An cheap nasty basic bike, thats worth $2,500 if I was VERY lucky.
Funny that I had a huge grin all morning and realised how bland my
B-King was on yesterday's ride dispite being a much "better" bike.

Know what you mean Tony. My KTM 690SM has more smiles per mile than my old ZX10. In fact I cant remember having this much fun since I got my licence in 1973, about 20 bikes ago. Sometimes its a real blast riding a basic machine again. Where was the photo taken?
