Im thinking (just thinking) about buying a brand new bike. Ive had a look on the internet and most places quote rrp. but i know there are alot better deals going around. Im looking at 1000cc or bigger sportsbikes up to 20k (but if i can save a few $$ i will). Ill go for a look around the local bike shops on saturday morning, but i thought someone here may know of some specials. What is great value for money at the moment?

Hey Oz - don't know if this is still the case, but the GSX1400 was something like $13K on the road a little while ago (yeah, I know it's not a "sports" bike, but I hear they're a lot of fun). Anyway, now would be the time to start looking cause the 2007 models will be coming in soon = run out deals on 06 stuff....

$13k? [:0]
I take it's that Oz $?
That'd be about £5400! The GSX 14 is about 7 1/2 grand over here! Shee-it, looks like us Brits are getting stung again cos everyone else gets new bikes cheaper...:(

Yea Dave, Japan's a lot closer to Aus than it is to Europe mate, but we just don't get the same specs apparently as we're a testing ground!

I'd only consider buying a new bike if there weren't any second hand models of that bike available. You lose a couple of grand in value as soon as they leave the show room floor.

There are plenty of top condition second hand bikes out there with extra's added on and low k's.

Cheers Rich

ozkat you would be a shoe-in for a busa wouldnt you? You like the suzooks, its a no brainer. You may get a good deal since the zx14 has been released.

But he says he wants to strip it, and we all know how hard Busas are to strip and look good.
Check out Slamdogs R1 or Wannabefast's R1 again. That's where I'd be heading.

Slinga, nah not a Busa. Like Simon said very hard to make a good looking naked Busa. I only want to remove the fairing and fit MX bar, change muffler.
Went to Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Triumph/MV today. How bloody small are the 1000cc bikes these days, they are tiny. Anyone over 5ft10in must have trouble riding them, let alone a 6ft1in well rounded bloke like me. Im actually leaning towards a new ZX12R or Daytona or maybe the new stretched Buell, but i didnt get to Morgan and Wacker today.

there's a dinged ZX14 thingy at Motorcycle Disposals for 8

Rich

Go the Buell, you'll have a ball.

And further more I'd be riding a Buell today but necessity made me trade it on a Bus to get me to Tassie and back in relative (speed :D) and comfort.

With the Buell's there's something about them, they have a very big personality. If I had the dollars a Buell would grace my shed once again.... And besides their critics have probably never ridden one.

Cheers Rich

Yea, I've ridden one (1200 lightning or whatever they are called). They handle well with that short wheel base and look pretty good. The only thing is that "chug-a-lug" Harley engine, "all torque - no action". The pick of the Hog stuff though, by far.

Hay OZ over here the R1s price have dropped by about $3000.00 since the new ones are coming out, I would have thought the drop in price would be the same over there.
but if I was you the ZX10 would be my pick

The zx12 is a bloody bargain at the moment as they are discontinued and they are running them out. I saw one for less than 15 on road. alot of bike for that money.

I am hoping to get onto a 12 before the fools run. Blade is going after new year and looking around for a damaged 12. Wish i had the cash for a new one.

The long buell is still a tiny bike. I sat on one and it is only a minor difference. It was more comfy though.

I was lane splitting the other day and stopped next to a guy on a ZX10R, fuggin thing looked like a ( very precious ) 250, and he road it like that too.

A lot of guys have complained that they are too light and twitchy to go hard on NSW roads
